Onimusha is the Soul Reaver of Samurai Games. I mean that not to compliment or disparage its quality. It’s an objective statement. It is the type of game you don’t get anymore, a budget game from a weird arm of a studio or a smaller dev that catches like wildfire for one reason or another and fails to capture lightning in a bottle again.
Absolutely agreed. At least for now, we won’t see a big studio make a game like this. Maybe in the future as the industry gets wise that the slop isn’t selling, they’ll buy out some indie studios and start publishing cool stuff again, but only time will tell

It's unfortunate that either Judgement is dead, or just won't get more sequels, because Lost Judgement had some of the best combat in the entire series, and some incredibly fleshed out minigames
heres hoping the combat is "moved forward" with project century. also its fascinating when you get a more gritty/brutal game with a similar combat system (Shadow of Mordor utilising arkham combat but with decapitations was excellent)
At least 7 Gaiden showed they have no issues using the Judgment boys in RGG games. Kaito Files was so good I'd be fine with him and Sugiura taking the lead for a third game. If Kimura is too expensive to headline a threequel they should go all out and make "Judge Eyes 3: Who Killed Takayuki Yagami?" where he's revealed to be alive halfway through the game, having undergone plastic surgery that makes him look like the skeezy prototype Yagami and also somehow grants him a new, much cheaper voice actor.
Naw that Kaede slander is nuts, she has the coolest move in the game where you can instakill enemies with her flip if you're still locked on to the enemy and press I believe it was back and attack in time with her landing she dashes up to the enemy and cuts their throats, even some of the stronger enemies like the long limbed skinny guys, she kicks out their knee and stabs them in the neck, super cool and feels great to do edit: and of course I make this comment seconds before Suzi brings it up in the video lol
I am super excited for this. Dusk Golem was the one who said a new Onimusha was in development, and that was then confirmed with the leaked materials from that hack. However, he then later said it got shelved due to poor sales of the remaster, but not cancelled. Super glad they picked it back up again! Stoked for this. Also the podcast finally gets the Suzi Everywhere System.
Aesthetically Nioh scratched that itch, but from a gameplay perspective I still missed Onimusha. Not sure how close to the OG games (or even modern Resident Evil) the new Onimusha's gameplay will be though.
I’ll play devils advocate and say that AT THE TIME he wasn’t entirely wrong. This was the era when one of the biggest consoles was the Xbox 360, and Western developed games were indeed some of the most critically acclaimed and highest selling. Now I’ll stop playing devils advocate and say Inafune’s plan of “just have Western studios make most of our games now” wasn’t the best, and the only example where people felt it worked was Dead Rising 2.
I feel that the lesson was "we can learn about how other studios are doing well and avoid their mistakes" and not "let substitute everything that we have created / it is part of our identity" @@BloodRedFox2008

I just think Suzi has been very hypocritical where as Pat had his concerns and faced them head on an admitted he liked the remake. Playing Onimusha as a kid from the Global South had me going nuts when first hearing about the Sengoku Jidai and realizing nearly every character in the games is a real person who existed
I disagree with Suzi's opinion on Dawn of Dreams. I still like that game, but it differs enough from the previous main games that I understand someone not liking it. It's as definitive an ending to Onimusha as you can get.
Of course and I can enjoy aspects of the games characters and gameplay. I personally didn't like how anime we got at the end but it was still a good game

I liked dawn of dreams; the ways the different characters played was great and co-op was fun even though it required a cheat to activate it wasn't as good as 2 but I honestly preferred it to 3; I had a pretty bad time playing 3 though
I liked all 4 Onimusha games. Four was a little off in tone in the way it felt too anime but I liked it and it's new game plus addition. The first one is the hardest for me to replay. I didn't really care for the show that came out not terribly long ago. The gauntlet being a "curse" of sorts was weird and I didn't like it made him super strong/fast. I like to think that Samanosuke was just a really skilled fighter but you can't actually kill genma without the Oni's help so it allowed him to finish them off (and use magic).
Suzi really should use that trap door she installed to sneak into the podcast more often.

Nioh 2 is objectively one of the best action games of all time.
@ayanleman I do understand that but his statements about the game are consistently phrased like the loot drop aspect of the game is problematic for everyone, when it's only problematic for him (and a small subset of others I guess)

People saying Onimusha 4 is bad is new to me, I always thought that game was rad

I liked dawn of dreams; the ways the different characters played was great and co-op was fun even though it required a cheat to activate
it wasn't as good as 2 but I honestly preferred it to 3; I had a pretty bad time playing 3 though
I liked all 4 Onimusha games. Four was a little off in tone in the way it felt too anime but I liked it and it's new game plus addition. The first one is the hardest for me to replay. I didn't really care for the show that came out not terribly long ago. The gauntlet being a "curse" of sorts was weird and I didn't like it made him super strong/fast. I like to think that Samanosuke was just a really skilled fighter but you can't actually kill genma without the Oni's help so it allowed him to finish them off (and use magic).
A Suzicast is always a good podcast.
