Only after the most friendship-centric episode of the entire show, where the promised friendship version of this podcast shines brightest, does the Chekov’s orbital lasers, almost a year after introduced, craters the status quo into oblivion, and we can never go back to how we began. You hoped these days will last forever. They don’t. The Friendship Era is over. So begins Versus Wolves: Part 2
Jon could have let it go. He could have put Omikron off the table for good. He could have recommended Mother 3. He touted the friendship era but behind his shoulder grabs and hugs he still pulled the knife. You had the freedom, John. You could have let it go. You gambled it all away. Perhaps you truly did want the friendship era, perhaps you truly did wish the best for the future. But you drew that knife. And it shattered in your hands. You are the villain of the podcast Jon. And a villain's fall could never be more poetic than this.

This galaxy-brain-level counterbreaker truly felt like John had the gun to Woolie’s head, it clicked empty, and then Woolie raised his hand to slowly drop the bullets in front of John’s horrified eyes…
It wasn't just that, Woolie was guiding the gun to his head while John was telling him he didn't want to do this while Woolie was begging to John to get it over with, just to reveal that he had the bullets, and then proceeded to steal the gun, reload it, and point it at John.
I'm so glad Woolie got so say his peace on To Pimp a Butterfly and everything therein. I feel like Woolie has wanted an outlet to talk about this forever and its really great to hear what he has to say.
He honestly did a great job breaking down the plot of TPAB and all the Kendrick Lore in an easy way to understand. There’s a LOT of socio-economic, personal, and music industry background that’s imperative information to fully understand all of Kenny’s work, ESPECIALLY TPAB
No, woolie is in the wrong, he could have urged eye patch wolf not to do it, but he actively convinced him, he deliberately tried to invoke level 3 counter breaker, a fate that no-one should ever have to suffer
What we need is a Kaiji and Kendrick Lamar cross-over, like live action Kendrick Lamar randomly shows up in an episode of Kaiji and nobody really questions it.
The foreshadowing of this podcast is insane. Bringing up the three strike rule at the start of the episode for it to be relevant at the end. Bravo, Vince.
Best episode yet. The discussion around Kendrick's work and specifically TPAB was incredible. I love Versus Wolves for the strip club stories and RRR dance challenges and Dokajohn Kingdom Saga, but the real conversation in this episode just cemented this as one of my favourite podcasts. I know there's always some self-deprecation about Versus Wolves and how much nonsense there is, but that's what makes moments like the TPAB discussion so meaningful. As a writer and creative myself I sometimes get lost in my own work and struggle to see the forest for the trees. Hearing you guys talk about your love for these stories no matter what form they take reminds me why I do what I do. All the love in the world to John and Woolie. Stand proud, you're strong.
Even besides that and even if you don’t enjoy hip hop it’s worth it just for the moment that John implies that he’s the Kendrick to Woolie’s Drake. That heavy pause is one of the funniest parts of the episode

@The5lacker there's a point that going against evil goes too far and you become evil yourself. Woolie pulled the podcast equivalent of a warcrime here. I think that qualifies him as such
Woolie is having the time of his life. That evil smile that slowly broke across his face as John gave his awkward disclaimer before dissolving into straight-up maniacal laughter. Beautiful
People thought that the Chekov's Gun of this podcast was Omikron: The Nomad Soul, but it wasn't. The real Chekov's Gun was the Triple Combo Breaker and Omikron was just the bullet.
Mother of God That ending I don’t think I’ve ever audibly gasped at a podcast before Well, I have, but that was when I was in college listening to the end of The Adventure Zone, and while that did bring me to tears, that was also an extremely different context and type of podcast This is I am genuinely speechless, I don’t have the words to describe that ending
44:56 I keep inadvertently trolling Woolie when I see him at cons. I used to run a "reverse autograph signing" for SBFP and later CSB at MAGfest every year. Basically, I'd bring fan signs with dumb channel memes on them, have a bunch of fans sign them, and then hand them off at the meetup. The intent was "hey, here's something you can tangibly look to and go, 'hey, people think I'm pretty neat'". Well, when Woolie announced he was getting married, I decided to bring a sign that was "Woolie the Liar Stole Her Heart". Now, the INTENDED joke was just to be some cute little wordplay on an old meme to get an "oh you" eyeroll, give my congratulations, and get out of the way. What him and Pat immediately latched onto INSTEAD was that I had used the headshot from the "Two Extremely Hot Bisexual Girls" story as my meme's base. It was just the first thing on Google Image Search, but now I look like a chode making fun of his love life. I'm flailing to explain "hey no I'm actually super happy for you and Steph-". It ain't getting better, but Pat is dying. I believe the phrase he used was "YOU'RE GONNA BE THAT FOREVER, MOTHERFUCKER!" I'm not a person who's got a lot of personal shame, but that shit haunts me to this day.
My favorite part of the wolf breaker is that John consistently when faced with adversity tries to remain stoic or play it up for a bit, but the genuine betrayal and the slow recognition of what's happening strips that away. He doesn’t pull the microphone closer like he usually does, his jaw just drops a little bit and he stares into the camera "Are you fucking serious?" Genuine damage has been done to the friendship. Sayonara friendship era, welcome to Versus Wolves Season 2. The Garfield Era.
I caught that Uvogin slip back in the JJK episode, even made a comment about it at the time. I predicted this was going to be a trap laid by Woolie but was not expecting him to do the same with Omikron and that he was aiming for a complete wipe.
I feel like an element of The Blacker The Berry that doesn’t get discussed enough is that, while the last lines function as a self critique from Kendrick and might thus seem like sort of a 180 from the rest of the song, it also works as a reinforcement of the rest of the song’s anger at the superstructure of white supremacy because it’s the culmination of his description of the dehumanization of black people and worshipping of violence that are baked in to American society. When Dot foreshadows the last line at the end of the song’s first two verses, he doesn’t say “*i am* a killer”, he says “*you made me* a killer” because, rather than simply condemning himself for his contribution to gang violence and leaving it at that, Kendrick comes to the realization that his participation in said violence is the intended outcome of systemic racism, that it was a choice that was, in good part, made for him and the people around him before they were even born. That’s why I think the Trayvon Martin line is what the entirety of TPAB hinges on, because it represents the moment Kendrick overcomes his self hatred by realizing that his actions and not simply the result of his own weakness and wickedness, and where he identifies building unity within the black community as the solution to overcoming systemic injustice. It’s the moment when the album’s story hits its climax because the bar’s underlying meaning finally reveals the potential resolution of the issues the album is centred around.

It definitely feels like the discussion around Kendrick in general passes over Section 80 and goes straight to his best albums, so he's not the first to skip it
Watching this after John's Dokapon stream is like watching Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page calmly talking to each other in the ring days after they just spent 40 minutes trying to maim each other to death.

Bro this has been a hell of a display from two expert heels. I gotta say y'all really got me hooked for season 2. Hopefully y'all both survive the magfest meetup and the podcast makes it to the end of the year hell in a cell match where only one wolf leaves.
This is a two heel podcast where both heels are on different levels of denial, but both of them are at maximum indignation. Friendship era was getting a bit long in the tooth anyway, time to beef up the bottom of the list.
: Oh My God. I am not kidding when I say this - but I half expected the first minute to just be Woolie and John re-enacting the chorus to We Cry Together.
The ending was amazing. You never really expect someone to leave a smoking gun next to the protag and for them to just shoot themselves to stop from getting shot...
This is like watching a season finale of a show and then seeing the multi layers of plot twists after plot twists and I didn't see this being like ..."can't wait for season 2 to happen"
I say this not to discredit the quality of the show, it's absolutely my favorite podcast, but the narrative arc is too perfect for me to not believe that this is at least to some degree pre written, in fact I'd go so far as to say this is the spiritual if not direct sequel to gon in 60 seconds
"i have really upset someone" -john after taking a shot at falke, a character with exactly 5 fans (and one of them is me. and i know all of the other ones.)

"We like Christmas lights even when it's not Christmas." Wow, that's OLD Woolie lore about him never taking holiday decorations down because "it'll be good for next year."

Thankful that Woolie brought up Section 80, everyone seems to write that out of the discussion of Kendrick nowadays even though it's his first studio album...
That gambit by Woolie had the aura of the “My War” song from Attack on Titan. If you haven’t heard it, look it up. It’s more fitting than I could’ve ever wished. Woolie has never been more intimidating. No time for friendship. “You. Are. My. --“
Don’t worry Woolie, about the rap talk, i was catching up on last year’s Castle Superbeast episodes and not a week ago i was listening to Woolie and Pat talk about Kendrick and Drake-whilst building a shelf for my parents, no, not a prefab shelf, a shelf from 2x4s and sheathing. And it was the most interesting thing, and adding the album context in this episode of Versus Wolves was much needed. I can’t wait for the Superbowl Half-time show.

Bro this has been a hell of a display from two expert heels. I gotta say y'all really got me hooked for season 2. Hopefully y'all both survive the magfest meetup and the podcast makes it to the end of the year hell in a cell match where only one wolf leaves.
Welp... The frenship era is over
RIP Friendship Era (2024-2024)
it was over the moment john choose omikron over a friendly thing
Love seeing Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers getting the praise it deserves! Absolutely powerful album that too many people slept on
The bit is endless, it is eternal, it stops when the heat death of the universe comes for us all...
WOOLIE TURNED HEEL!
Woolie was always the heel
@@Treblebeatgames Heel wearing the face of a face
wdym? It's John that ended the Friendship Era by pulling the trigger on Omikron. Woolie simply parried it.
This is a two heel podcast where both heels are on different levels of denial, but both of them are at maximum indignation. Friendship era was getting a bit long in the tooth anyway, time to beef up the bottom of the list.
Remember kids, "Being the bad guy" means "Not letting people do bad things to you."
John is, has always been, and will always be the villain.
"If I had a song like this but for Irish people I would go insane" JOHN THERE IS A SONG LIKE THAT. It's called I Love You by Fontaines DC.
: Oh My God. I am not kidding when I say this - but I half expected the first minute to just be Woolie and John re-enacting the chorus to We Cry Together.
How much money would woolie make off all the n-passes John would need to buy?
That’s the beginning of the Silent Hill Ascension episode.
i don't watch wrestling but the heel turns in this podcast give me an idea of why you like it
The ending was amazing.
You never really expect someone to leave a smoking gun next to the protag and for them to just shoot themselves to stop from getting shot...
This is like watching a season finale of a show and then seeing the multi layers of plot twists after plot twists and I didn't see this being like ..."can't wait for season 2 to happen"
I fucking called it. I knew he'd play omikron for the combo breaker!
woolie accidentally watching worlds strongest disciple kenichi is hilarious
With Johns love of Pro Wrstling, I *refuse* to believe that this finale wasn't at least partially scripted.
The end of this was such hyper peak plz keep this style up! Definitely makes this podcast feel so unique conpared to so much other stuff
That ending...
Were you able to hear what was said at the call there? My hearing is garbage lol
@@blusterkong4556 Tattoo lol
@@aliasmcdoeOhhh that makes so much more sense. Thanks!
What’s with the Sarah part I’m intrigued
I just wonder if the "I'm sorry John" was an accidental Gorefield or not
and he had the BULLET-PROOF JACKET on, UNDER THE SUIT!!!
Not me unwrapping candy canes in my kitchen wailing about the end of the friendship era
I say this not to discredit the quality of the show, it's absolutely my favorite podcast, but the narrative arc is too perfect for me to not believe that this is at least to some degree pre written, in fact I'd go so far as to say this is the spiritual if not direct sequel to gon in 60 seconds
They're two massive wrestling fans, I fully believe they plan this for maximum effect and I respect their dedication to the craft.
"i have really upset someone"
-john after taking a shot at falke, a character with exactly 5 fans (and one of them is me. and i know all of the other ones.)
I love hearing F.D. Signifier's words come out of John's mouth genuinely. I'm not calling plagiarism or anything but it's so clear that FD was a big source that John used to brush up on his knowledge.
I mean John learns from the best. They got good taste and good friends
Having now watched the full thing I feel vindicated in my assessment
I don't even know what the next episode could possibly even be but y'know I'm hyped anyway.
I can't believe Woolie brought John as his +1 to the cookout.
I will only add that superior to being the only child is being the second child who is not screwing up in the same manner as the first child
Which "type of sibling" your parent was also affects this
@@matilyn_rf My mom was the youngest of 7 in an Irish Catholic Household and my Dad was the middle child between two sisters. I don't know what that means, but it had an effect
They really popped out as soon as I got home early from work!! Thank you, you beautiful men.
Honestly Woolie's breakdown of TPAB still only scratches the surface.
Uhhh so real talk, whats the recommendation for this month? Low key was relying on that for some monthly goals, do I just go back and read more Kill Six Billion Demons? Do I find an Afro-Carribean chef to study art of Roti wraps? I still haven't gotten to Morning Dew in Berserk, do I focus on that?
Get a Garfield tattoo.
Read Kill six billion demons! It's soo good part 3 and 4 are amazing
I would focus on berserk and possibly get a tattoo
I see that this week we have chosen "Or Die"
"We like Christmas lights even when it's not Christmas."
Wow, that's OLD Woolie lore about him never taking holiday decorations down because "it'll be good for next year."
John threw a jab, too short, into a mid, parried, heavy overhead just to get a drive impact to the face into a lvl3 he never saw coming. Incredible way to finish out the year. I can´t wait for January.
Thankful that Woolie brought up Section 80, everyone seems to write that out of the discussion of Kendrick nowadays even though it's his first studio album...
That ending literally gave me chills holy shit, this is better than any drama tv show or movie i could ever watch
4:05:17 Genuinely please don't stop doing this Woolie this podcast ruled
That gambit by Woolie had the aura of the “My War” song from Attack on Titan. If you haven’t heard it, look it up. It’s more fitting than I could’ve ever wished. Woolie has never been more intimidating. No time for friendship. “You. Are. My. --“
I suspected Woolie might have done some work to prepare a combo breaker. I did not expect it to go to this level.
GLORIOUS PLAY BY WOOLIE
Don’t worry Woolie, about the rap talk, i was catching up on last year’s Castle Superbeast episodes and not a week ago i was listening to Woolie and Pat talk about Kendrick and Drake-whilst building a shelf for my parents, no, not a prefab shelf, a shelf from 2x4s and sheathing. And it was the most interesting thing, and adding the album context in this episode of Versus Wolves was much needed. I can’t wait for the Superbowl Half-time show.
I'm early today, so here's the obligatory *MUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD* comment
Woolie presenting Dokapon Kingdom in a briefcase takes on new meaning. It wasn't intimidation, it was presenting a treasure.
