probably on par or even not as bad. the whole plane was built around the gun and CAS work, having such violent reactions wouldnt be good for the pilot in such close proximity to the ground. that and im pretty sure the f16 pilots sits on top of his gun whereas the a10 has theirs behind them
@@nobstompah4850 Yea. I think the A10C has a specialized recoil control for the plane that negates the recoil by angling the plane in the opposite direction
Even with all the precautions in designing the A-10 around its gun, the vibrations are still quite intense and the recoil from a burst is strong enough to slow down the aircraft significantly (by at least 10-20kts).
Its hard to believe 150 years ago we only had black powder rifles that took a full minute to reload 1 crudely formed lead ball & no aviation at all. Fast forward to this video and we see an F16 firing an M61 minigun shooting 20mm bullets at 6000 a minute. Unreal.
The stick is pressure sensitive. It only moves about 1/4" in any direction. But, you lean that thing over the full 1/4" and that thing will roll so fast it'll make your head spin. An experienced pilot once told me it's about as close as you get to the plane being able to read your mind. You think of what you want the plane to do, you make very slight movements of your hand, maybe a foot, and bird flat out dances.
The prototype F-16's stick actually didn't move at all - it was all strain gauges (IIRC) based purely on pressure on the stick. Pilots found it disconcerting that it didn't move, so they add a few degrees of movement, which doesn't actually do anything as far input is concerned.
@@hoilst Yeah, I remember seeing a while back that the older all metal Thrustmaster HOTAS sticks for simulator use, had kits available to replace the mechanism with strain gauges, so that the stick did not move and control was measured by the force applied, rather than any movement. If that’s hard to imagine, the A-10 has a bigger, longer, heavier, and vastly more powerful gun that the plane is literally built around. The F-16 is a plane with a gun, the A-10 is a gun with a plane.
@@iDropPhats a10s gau8 Avenger minigun shoots 30mm rounds at 3900 a minute. The F16s M61 shoots 20mm rounds at 6000 a minute. Main difference is the a10 is built for ground combat the f16 is built for air combat so the f16 is built to shoot much much faster as in air combat the max lock on you have for guns is 1-3 seconds. So you need as many rounds on target as possible, for the a10 engagement is mainly tanks and ground vehicles and a tank on the other hand doesn't move at 2000mph so you have a much longer lock on time, not needing a super fast gun. Both miniguns are phenomenal. I know most people don't agree with this but I like the speed of the M61 over the power of the GAU8. I also personally think the m61 sounds way cooler than the gau 8 and I've seen and heard both being fired in real life. The F16 just makes you shit yourself on how fast it shoots. Its insane.

Also a great shot of the viper’s stick and showing how it doesn’t actually move. Very cool.
It does move, just not very much.
Im guessing they dont want a stick that requires more than small wrist movement so that they are not fighting it while under heavy load.

In my opinion the f16 cannon sounds far scarier than the a10 in a strafe, the a10 just made it famous
a10 is just smooth and quick so it became famous the f16s sounds more powerful even if its not
Such a delicate control system - very little adjustment is needed to move the thing
