Very impressive. Going mid 9 s on those tires .
Going mid 9s with no cage...crazy stupid.😮
Respect the Vintage! Nothing says IM A BOSS like factory interior
Thanks for showing us all the details on what makes this car work so well. Very interesting stuff. I love this car. Glad you guys are keeping her as original as possible for the class.
My first 69 Z/28 was in 76, it was beat up on the outside and the trunk didn't have the spatter paint anymore. It had a very strong 302 4spd, and 4.56 gear. I was 16 it didn't take long to get banned from my school parking lot, and not much longer to get a pile of tickets. Mom made me sell it, I took the $500.and got a slow car 67 mustang 428 cobra jet automatic.
Nice! My first car was a gutted out ‘67 Camaro rs (it was an ss too, but I didn’t know that until after I sold it. Duh). It had a 400 that I built, a full manual th400 that I built, and a 10 bolt 4.56 posi (until I blew it up). Miss that car. Lotsa burnouts in the Sonic and high school parking lots. Got that car in 2001.
Thank you for your time,I love a lot your ZL1 clone, your amazing to show some of your mods, like you say, nobody in your class will copy this video ;)
Ty for posting this. Love the cars ! Not only the sleeper element but every aspect of it.
That was great, thanks for the tour! Great videos too. This is my favorite class in drag racing, I just wish they did this out here in the west. The in-car and multiple shots of each run is awesome.
Seems like we always have to go east to see the good stuff! Which js lame because all the best scenery for tracks in my opinion is out west
Thanks for the overview. Excellent !!
I graduated in 1966, so these were all around as a young man. I was playing with Fords and Mercury's (S-55 390 4-speed) and thought we were hot stuff going 12's on street tires ... Back in the day, the hot street tire were Atlas Plycron's. Unique rubber compound that hooked on average street pavement. I doubt you could run them on a prep'd track. They'd wad up on you ... But it's good to see real survivors out still runnin. Keep up the good work 🙂
12s back in the day was fast! You grew up in a time that I would love to have been around! Thanks for watching!
Great Video!!! thx for sharing. Never was a big fan of the Camera but this one is a fav for sure as is this channel which ROCKS, THX.
What do I think, thank you for sharing that info yes I most definitely love the car and yes keep it as stock as you can being that it's as clean and original that it is, looking forward to future episodes keep doing what you're doing it's definitely appreciate it.
Wow, absolutely enjoyed this tutorial 👏. Perfect sleeper
Wow mad respect for going that fast on those tires!
Love it! Also gotta love laconic engine description i thought it was stock but the moment you said 562 v8 everything became clear haha
You put up the best FAST footage out of anyone. Great video! Would be cool to do the same video but on your dads Vette.
By far. I haven't seen any other channels putting out the type of behind the scenes footage he has been uploading.
I'd love a detailed vid on the Corvette too.
Kudos! Quite amazing stuff you're doing on stock tires. I used to think I was doing something when I'd squeak out a sub-12 second run w/ my '67 fastback Mustang that I built a 351C w/ a M-21 tranny out to a set of 3:90 gears on 50 series tires. You've got that Camaro D-I-A-L-E-D I-N! I could have benefitted from more attention to chassis knowledge vs my obsession w/ carb tuning and port work. Sadly, that Mustang got taken out by a drunk, while driving home after a knight of racing at Pamona Speedway back in '82. Fun times in that old Pony.
Sorry to hear about the car... I will say sub 12s is pretty impressive for back then! I'm glad you said that lol, It's hard for me to get other racers that have grown up in the muscle car era to pay attention to suspension. To this day I still try to talk my dad into some new advance shocks for his corvette, I haven't been able to talk him into it just yet! Thanks for watching!
I don’t have a FAST car but I can definitely use some of your tricks to help me!
1 MIN IN AND I LOVE THE WHOLE DEAL...AND THE OLD SCHOOL TOWER SPEAKERS ON THE SHOP WALL!!!
Love the car and content so I subscribed-appreciate the information that you revealed & respect what you didn’t 👍🏼
Thanks for the sub!
Way fast and super clean Camaro. Love watching these FAST series cars.
Thank you so much, really enjoy watching. Boiler-up
Nice work. Love the Camaro. Data logging is absolutely vital even for us bracket racers.😀 Agree that some of the best tuning tools are the starting videos. 9.50s/ 145-148 mph is very respectable. Stock body with driver 3400 lbs with driver? Love that stock suspension with a 9” tire going 9’s on regular basis. 330 foot onward must really build some serious steam! Good luck to you in 2022!😎
Thanks! and yes 3400 with me in it.
Terrific video . To me, FAST, is one the most extinguished programs in Drag racing. 9’s on those tires with essentially “stock” suspension is just magic (and science) Congrats on your. Build snd driving. The only thing missing is seeing your “cars & coffee” gem dust a 300k Mclaren. Seriously, sowing what these old stock chassis can do is awesome. I thought getting my ‘70’s Hemingway Cuda in the high tens was a big deal lol..
Nice job and good info. Thanks!
Lots of fun, and thanks for the insight. Love the car!
thank you for this video you have answer a lot of questions
What a great car. Thanks for saving her and putting her in her natural habitat!
Flat unbelievable! Super deal. I like U're perspective regarding the car, w/.it so pristine & a family piece, 👍👍 be safe 🦊
I appreciate you not wanting to cut the car up for the sake of a quicker ET. I'm in the same situation with my sons 3rd gen Camaro. The car is so nice and all original except for the paint and a mild 383. He wants to go faster, but I won't even take the spare tire out of the 3500 pound beast. I enjoy tinkering around with it, and we only got 3 passes on it, but it has gone a 1.8 sixty foot and 12.90 @106 on set of 245/50/16 half bald Chinese radial tires. It still has the junk 7.5 rear axel with 3.42 gears, and stock convertor, mid length headers with single 3 inch exhaust. The car has more in it. We might swap out the .456 lift cam for something bigger, and better ignition, but the car will idle very nicely as is. We are now looking for a mid size G body wagon that we can cut up and make a sleeper out of.
True, I wish they gave give extra points to make up for that.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
Yup I'm watching. Old videos. Of your beautiful. 69. Camaro. I do miss it. Thanks
Thanks for sharing. Nice & clean car.
Great video very informative some of things I have used in the past with performance improvements.
Thank you so much for sharing! This is so cool!
Very informative video, thanks!
Fantastic upload. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great car beautiful condition, I like the way you have saved it.
Very very very nice car...and a lot of thought put into it as well. I'm going to have to follow this more closely.
Bless your grandpa for paving the way. That’s an awesome hugger orange 69. You definitely are knowledgeable and have great content. Sub’d
Algorithm worked. Great vidja and subscribed. Awesome stuff 👏
Subscribed! The only thing that trips me up is those skinny back tires. I'm amazed at how fast you run with those tires. I'm so impressed at how you kept from cutting the car up and manage those impressive times. It leaves so straight and drama-free. Thanks for showing the car in detail to us.
Thanks for subscribing! It's been a challenge to get it to run how it does, but we've learned a bunch and most importantly had a lot of fun doing it!
@@HorsepowerDepot do you put tire softener on it🤔. We used to mix turpentine and kerosene mix on our go kart tires. We would wrap tire with air in it lightly with gauze and soak it once a day until the weekend. They would be so soft you could gouge a piece out with fingernail😁
Love the video.. Very cool.. Thx man..
So cool! Thx for sharing!
That car from the setup and how it looks that was a factory Coco car. The best of the best
Awesome video deeply appreciate your honesty love your clone ZL1 69 is a one of a kind!!
Thank You!
Thank you for insight beautiful car
Thank you for your time 🏆
I absolutely love your Camaro it's the cleanest I ever seen for racing it like you do and it's so cool looking with that stock looking small tires. I would have so much fun winning money racing that on the street with guys thinking there's no way that camaro will beat us on them tires and then you just smoke them right off the line and your gone.
Great video, could you explain more about how the vacuum motor is benefitting the setup and helping free up some power? Also could you talk about the timing setup and kind of timing maps are being used? Thanks!
This is such an awesome video! New sub here
Just found your channel.AWESOME CONTENT!! Love the Camaro
Appreciate it!!
This car is a work of art. Absolutely perfect. 😍 my god
Wow Awsome video thanks
Great philosophy, great vid!
Very cool, glad Grandpa painted it, makes it twice as nice.
"Too nice to make into a race car" as he shows 9 second his race car.
Sorry just had to. :) I get your point. Very cool car!
Thanks for sharing. 👍
Wow. Amazing to watch.
Smooth is fast. Great car you guys!
Neat car! Neat video! I clicked in just to learn something about how in the world you made those hard street tires do anything and still carry the weight I got sucked into the overall build of the car because it hauls ass and is very clean, stock and put together looking compared to the small tire grudge cars that we are complacent with seeing. They are building cars with bailing wire because they plan on hanging them on the fence.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing..very interesting stuff..fast beautiful 69 camaro..love the channel
Thanks!
When a car is that original.....
Change the engine and tranny but retain the OE drivetrain for when you're done playing with it.
So neat to see something so intact and so rust free.
Years back I helped build a clone of a E-body hemi K-frame out of aluminum. We spent days on making the welds look correct then painted it mat black. We charged him around $3000.00 if I remember correctly.
That was an eye-opener! Thanks for sharing! BTW, was really surprised to see a 12-bolt...and it didn't even have an aftermarket cover with main cap supports, etc.!
Thanks for watching! The aftermarket cover would kind of go against the "Stock Look"
The 12 bolt is fine. It doesn’t leave the line violently is the answer.
@@dodgeguyz Because it's an automatic. Like to see it with a Jerico in it.
Cool, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for bringing the Camaro back!
I had a power disc brake Gm A body. When I took the brake power booster off, the pushrod and clevis went to a higher hole on the pedal and I had nice manual disc brakes with great pedal feel and no booster. Street car never went over 100, don’t know if manual brakes would work on the track.
cool want to do that with my c-3
Thanks for the video, good job, if the Pro Mod guys come over with the big bucks it will ruin the class, big money has always done that. Look forward to your next one.
Great video. I really like the story behind the car, especially how you preserved a nice car and did something cool with it. The FAST drags are one of the most interesting classes out there and I like hearing how you guys are running so fast.
Thanks for watching!
You gained my subscribe killer info and even better car super cool original style ripper
Thanks!
Thanks new too your channel! Awesome times.
Thanks!
Thank you, thank you, I always love it when F.A.S.T. comes to MIR or what we call the "creek". The air is always good and records are set (usually by Dave Dudek's hemi) then reset again the next year. I did not see subframe connectors under your car. I know the existing roll cage helps but do you think that a set of subframe connectors would also help? Good luck catching your dad's ets and mph. Please keep giving us insight on your car. Think about this, if you had this car back in the early 70's you would take everyone's money including Sox and Martin, Dick Landy, the Grump, and others including the silver bullet (who was sponsored by the factory engineers at dodge). They were only running in the tens back in the day. I love your car, keep getting faster.
I don’t think the car leaves the line hard enough to need subframe connectors. The roll cage does help.
Cool Car thanks for sharing
I love your grandpa too! Sweet car
Gorgeous car. Good work
Thanks!
First time to your channel. Nice content 👌🏻. New subscriber
Thanks for the sub!
subbed based on two facts ur in my state from the north part like my self and you happen to own one of my favorite cars bad ass ride man
Thanks for the sub!
Beautiful and fast car.
I’d like to see what the car does with a tire on it very nice build 👌🏼👌🏼
My dream car, that paint looks great.
Thanks! Paint really looks good for a 20 year old paint job!
Sweet car. Rims make that car look awesome.
Very informative video, thanks for sharing your tips. A beautiful Camaro! One tip l have that l used for my car to stop the rubber sticking to
the quarter panels was applying clear ‘removable’ vinyl for race day then remove it later.
Thanks for the tip! That rubber has never been cleaned since about 2001, I never plan on cleaning it off!
I do the same, I refer to it as a Badge of Courage
Just spray Pam cooking oil on the quarter panel at the beginning of the day and days end it wipes right off I did this inside the wheels when I worked for Bud Moore, when the car came in the pit u had no brake dust blind you when the air hit the wheel just a little tip ,might help I don't know
Won't let the rubber stick
Use car wax
Beautiful Camaro you have there! I would keep it as it is also and would rather run it in a slower class than cut it up and install a full-blown racing cage in it. I know, that is counter to some people's thinking, but I appreciate street-machine type performance more than "track-only" cars. That is why I like the limitations of the "stock" tire in your class. Anyone can install tubs, slicks and spooled rearends and such, but it takes finesse to make a car accelerate that hard with those tires as if it were still a street-machine. Once you cut up a car to chase after that ever-quicker E.T., you just switched from a fun and challenging hobby to a brutal kidney-pounding job. Maybe I am strange, but I never want to make my hobby into a toilsome chore. Once you are determined that you have to keep going faster, you are actually on a pre-determined road of ever-increasing expense and the risk of parts breakage and injury goes up exponentially. Anyway, I love your cars for what they are, and I hope you have many more years of enjoyment with them. Be safe and God Bless you guys in this New Year!
9.5, 9.6 keep doing what you're doing.
We ran NMCA Top Stock and those Muscle Car Nationals and shootout events back in the 90's with Dad's 71 Monte Carlo SS 454 that started out as an NHRA stocker. Ran low 11's with mufflers which was fast for the time but it's really cool to see some of that scene and Pure Stock evolve into FAST and man 9.50's?! That's just awesome. Love some of these tricks too. It would be a deep 8's car with drag radials and some other things if they were allowed. Subscribed.
Thanks for following us! Next season should be good we plan to push the envelope further and possibly an 8 second pass in FAST...
@@HorsepowerDepot gonna try to check out one of the the Martin events while I'm home in Muskegon this year.
Good lord! What a rocket ship!
Awesome video! Your car 60 foots just as fast as my nova with about 3 times the tire as your camaro lol crazy how good you guys can launch on such little tire
Thanks! We learn a lot just from trial and error, mostly error lol but that's what helps us get better!
That bolt together torque converter, set up to give a soft hit but then not be slushy down track is money well spent to make this kind of combo work. It hits soft enough that he doesn't run traction bars, just real good mono leaf springs. Tunable shocks, to see what the car wants.
Good video. Good info. Very interesting. Thanks Would like for you to get in to just how different items work. (Custom stuff).
Absolutely a GREAT job on the vid!!! Obviously, I know it's about your car, but I LOVE the garage!! I also have a 2 post lift in mine. If there was one thing I would keep, if I was told I could keep only one thing, the 2 post would be it! I also like the speaker setup! Is that an older JBL, or BIC Venturi speaker? Just curious.... 👍
They’re jbl speakers. They are actually blown and we don’t use them anymore lol.
Sweet ride
I guarantee there a lot to learn from doing something that didn't work out like you hoped it would. When something doesn't work, do it a little differently. That's how you learn. It helps that they have raced 68-69 Camaros in many different forms for over 20 years. Having the dyno in the other room doesn't hurt either. It saves having to drive 75 miles to see if that new part helped or hurt performance. :big thumbs up:
There is a lot of knowledge out there for Camaros. But I’ve learned almost all of what guys with slicks and drag radials do doesn’t work with the bias ply tires.
@@HorsepowerDepot There is no substitute for years of experience, trial and error, and data.
Love this car!
Beautiful car !
Not many understand how cool this really is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice car good job on building like the stock look but halls.
Beautiful car. I'm certain many have said what you are doing is impossible.... And this video has probably won some arguments. "Man no way you can go into the 9's on stock tires" - proven wrong.
I'm a MOPAR guy, but that car is impressive! Great content, no way would I chop it either....lol
I wish you were local to me...Id love to try some exhaust ideas. I cannot imagine an off the shelf xpipe is a perfect match
The reverse valve body was a great idea
Cool video, subbed
Thanks for the sub!
congrat's on the build and fast car! it would've made it easier to see the undercarriage if you had supplied adequate lighting when you filmed, btw.
MAN THATS A NICE CAR
