"It was like deja vu for me," said Fernandez, whose only victory in 17 matches against Seles came seven years ago. "I've lost numerous first sets 6-0 to her, so it felt just like the old days. . . . She washed me out. It was just too tough."
“I played some of my best tennis today, because I wasn’t making too many unforced errors,” said Seles, who won her 36th singles title. “I was going for my shots.”
It’s been three years since Monica Seles played at Wimbledon... she might not be the same Seles that dominated women's tennis before being stabbed in 1993, but Fernandez couldn't tell the difference.
With a series of blistering groundstrokes, Monica Seles turned the Eastbourne final in England into a rout, winning her first grass-court title on the eve of a long-delayed return to Wimbledon.
Though she had an ailing shoulder and was not in the best of shape, Seles swept through this English tournament without losing a set.

This was the only kind of puny grass event Seles could ever win. Wimbledon was a laugher for her, her entire career.
