This match took over 5 hours to complete due to the intermittent rain. Thank god for the roof now. Great mental strength by Graf to keep her composure through all the stoppages.
Hopefully one day the comments for a Graf/Seles match will be just be respectful for both players! They are both legends of the game - a potential rivalry that could have been the greatest, horribly stopped when it was just getting going, we just have 15 matches to enjoy and appreciate, they really could bring out the best in each other, some amazing points in this match.
hill 42 hi hill 42, thanks for your great, insightful and knowledgeable comment. I totally agree with your analysis of the legendary Seles vs. Graf rivalry. What people tend to forget over the last 30 years is what Monica delivered to the WTA and global sport at the time... We had seen the awesome Evert vs. Navratilova rivalry for 10+ years before Steffi exploded into the game around 1986. Steffi was young, German and Uber-talented. She blitzed both old girls and quickly smashed her way into the undisputed #1 spot. The performance of Graf in 87 88 89 was astonishing. Nobody outside of the Bolletieri Academy had any idea Monica was about to hit the circuit... just ask Andre and Jim, they were there. To think that after all of Graf’s legendary success and super-talent that by the time 1993 came around she was only 22 years old with 11 Grand Slams - Steffi had turned pro in 1984... but then Monica Seles, by 1993 she was just 19 years old and had won 8 Grand Slams - Monica turned pro in 1989... You can see where this is going if the Hamburg incident never occurred... thanks again for your terrific comment hill 42. Enjoy!

@@hill4252 yes, I agree... my point is not "what could Monica have achieved..." my only point (and the only relevant point of discussion) is Monica was every bit Steffi's equal in ability and natural talent. Both were well above the rest of the competition. As Monica was taken away from this healthy rivalry as she approached the peak of her abilities, the entire world was denied epic sporting greatness which most definitely would have resulted from the gorgeous competitiveness of these two champions...
thanks for loading this videos Pert. I've always been Graf's fan but overall I'm also a tennis fan. Just read Seles biography which reminded me how great she was. I was a kid when she started dominating so definitely did not appreciate her as much as I do now. Looking forward to watching this match and later the the AO 1993 fina!
That is rare and was wonderful. But although Graf has always been my favorite, even I must admit that Monica might have surpassed Margaret Court if she had not been stabbed by a Graf fan in 1993. Monica's greatest foe was the grass at Wimbledon which is why she never won there, but in 1993 or 94 she probably would have. This was a great rivalry and might have been a greater one than the Chrissie/Martina rivalry. My other regret is that Seles's dad referred to Steffi as Knife Number One after his daughter was so brutally sidelined.
@@mc7477By 1993, Monica's game had progressed to such a state that it was no longer limited by the playing surface. Her serve had become a major weapon and she was volleying better and better. Pundits at the time predicted she would win Wimbledon that year. The grass there for some reason was making balls bounce higher during 93-94 those two years. How unfortunate Seles missed both years due to stabbing
And he was so hoping they could hang out at the champions ball but she wasn’t that interested then. It was when both won Roland Garros in 99 that they really hit it off.
I watched the women (not the men)in the 80s and 90s. Navratilova Evert Graf Seles Hingis. Then came the Big 3 and my focus shifted to the ATP. Rivalry is so watchable!
@@Nicksonian Yes we do. But the number of all time greats currently playing now is minimal compared to those days. In the 90s you had Navratilova, Graf, Seles, Sabatini, Sanchez-Vicario, Hingis, Davenport and Pierce. In the 00s you had the Williams Sisters, Henin, Clijsters, Capriati, Mauresmo and Sharapova in addition to Davenport and Hingis still being relevant. The WTA quality though, fell off a cliff in the 2010s and it still hasn't recovered with numerous one-slam wonders, inconsistent overachievers who aren't all time greats, and great players who underachieved for one reason or another. Yes there was Serena and Maria, but they didn't have a genuine rivalry and Serena's competition was overall pretty lacking compared to the 00s, only stopped from winning more slams because she got old. From the 2010s to the present we've only seen like a few modern all time great players; Azarenka, Barty, Swiatek and Sabalenka.
Hi @Aloysius Wicaksono, beautiful memories indeed. PertSnergleman is so happy to share these gorgeous classic matches between two true Champions. Enjoy!
@@yussepig6629 Seles won those 7 slams only because Steffi was slumping so badly that she missed 5 of the finals. Whereas in her peak 1987-89 and 1995/96 years the great German missed zero of 17 finals in the slams she played. No Selestial nutter ever was able to name 9 slams Steffi would not have won in 1993-99. But at least most of them agree that Steffi would have also won Wimbledon 1994 with Seles being in the draw.
@@yussepig6629 Just compare Steffi's 1989 and 1991 years: 86-2 win/loss in 1989 65-8 win/loss in 1991 A brutal decline. So OF COURSE Seles became #1 in 1991.

If she wasn't she wouldn't have got stabbed by a graf fan in Hamburg in the first place ... funny thing... literally right after seles got stabbed and was gone, graf won the next 4 majors...🤔....and another fun fact....graf win exactly HALF of her majors AFTER seles got stabbed...and seles was nowhere near the same player after the stabbing...that's a FACT! She was dominating women's tennis....and was the CLEAR #1 when she got stabbed....if she never got stabbed, graf wouldn't have 22 majors....it would've been closer to Chris and Martina's 18...and seles would've been right there too!!
51:21 hammer rallye. Seles hammered a forehand longline deep that landed close to the baseline which Graf only just returned, seles then absolutely powered a backhand longline that made the reporter shout out "wow" in admiration, Graf got to this one with her phenomenal speed, but her return landed short , so moving in Seles fired another backhand into the cross court corner, but slick Graf had anticipated that shot and was already on her way. Hitting a running forehand passing shot for a winner. Great rallye.
Serena Williams is the greatest of all time. It's a miracle those two sisters even made it into the tour nevermind winning all those slams. Give credit where it's due!
Graf hits that backhand slice with so much power and spin. Nasty shot. Sets up her forehand perfectly. Her slice is better than Federer. Yup I said it! 😂😂😂

GOAT! GOAT! I don't care what anybody says - Steffi is the female GOAT. She actually had to battle with other multiple 10+Slam winners - Chrissie, Martina, Seles. Who were Serena's biggest rivals? Venus, Clijsters, Henin, Davenport, Capriati. All fine players but not fellow greats. I'm not even going to mention Sharapova because that matchup was a straight up comedy hour for Serena.
Lol!!! Multiple 10+ slam winners?? Ok ...Chris and Martina were nowhere near their prime when graf started winning majors!!! And as far as seles goes....before seles got stabbed how many majors did graf win between the 90 French and the 92 Australia open?? Exactly 2.....TWO!!! Both at Wimbledon....this one where she did beat seles, and the prior year when seles didn't play! Go back and at graf's main rivals in her prime ...an older Martina, seles (who dominated every slam but Wimbledon), Sanchez vicario (Clay Court player), sabatini (who had the weakest serve I've ever seen)....she lost to Lori McNeil (who?) in the 1st round in 94 and was the first defending champ to lose in the first round the next year....All those names you mentioned Serena played would've mopped the floor with most of the women that graf played...other than seles and Martina. Henin, capriati, clisters, Venus, davenport, Sharapova, hingis would've destroyed Sanchez vicario, sabatini, Mary Joe Fernandez, Jana novotna, and Conchita Martinez! You only mentioned 3 names with graf....yet you mentioned FIVE with Serena...who all played LONGER in Serena's prime than the 3 you mentioned in graf's prime. And here's another fact....graf had 22 slams right? HALF of her slams came AFTER seles got stabbed!!! And seles wasn't remotely close to the same player after she came back 2.5 years later. If seles never got stabbed, graf doesn't have 22 slams! She would've been lucky to catch Chris and Martina at 18. Final fact.... between the 90 French and the 93 AO (11 majors)...Seles won EIGHT..Graf won TWO....and Martina won the other one (90 Wimbledon). And lo and behold, as soon as seles got stabbed, graf won the next 4 majors.... coincidence? I think not ... Serena.... and especially Martina....won majors in DOUBLES and MIXED DOUBLES! Graf was great....but not the goat....
I can't remember seeing this on tv. Probably did though. But thank you for uploading. Graf was insanely good in this match. The way she moves is brilliant, and so are the control of the racket - just listen to the sound of it - and the pace with which she hits the ball. The current top 10 of women's tennis would not have stood a chance.
Interesting, I completely disagree. I loved Graf, but I think players in the game today could expose her backhand a lot more than players back then. I don’t remember most players trying to hit the ball as hard back then, it’s was more of a strategic game. Today, they hit the ball so hard and I think they are better at striking the ball when the ball is below the net. I think SG would have struggled with her slice backhand.
@@djordjenikolic9059 hahahahahaha you’re a true comedian. Your peak Serena lost to an archaic dehydrated shriveled up Vinci and Who the hell is Bencic in 2015. Getting to that down-the-line shot by Seles at the end and chipping that backhand over the net mid-court to Seles was amazing ! Seles didn't do enough, though and Graf smashed a fraulein forehand crosscourt on the line ! Best wheels in the history of tennis - no contest !
Back in the day when WTA players offered something as equally interesting as ATP. There was great rivalries and all the top ranked really worked their ass-off to be in the top ten. Here it is: Ranked no 1 & no. 2 played in the final. Ranked no. 3 & ranked no. 4 were semifinalists as well. Unlike nowadays, WTA so called top 10 rank will easily lose in early rounds. Nowadays those who are in top 20-top 10 only need 3-4 okay on court achievements, because the other players will flop out of the blue. Back in 80's -90's and early 2000's, WTA Girlies had to play their best to defeat their opponents Nowadays, the WTA girlies just hope that their opponents have bad time & bad mood 🤷🤷
Such a shame that Monica wasn’t allowed to play her natural game. Even with grass being her worst surface throught all of her career (1 title; Eastbourne 1996) I am sure she would have won Wimbledon at least once and be able to complete the career Grand Slam. She was having incredible results in her only 3rd time competing (4R at 15, QF at 16, and Finalist at 18). It even took Wimbledon’s greatest female player Martina Navratilova (9 titles) to try 5 times before winning it for the first time at 21 years old. Never a player male or female has been more realized at such a young age as Monica was, and I doubt there will ever be. Thank you Monica for all you did for tennis.
Graf got handed a title for racism, yeah for her I guess. Seles was such a vastly superior player that she got stabbed for being so good. You on the other hand are complete trash.@@angelflorespacheco8992
The other players and media bullied Seles because she was too good. Her grunting was nothing even compared to some of here contemporaries. The only reason people attacked her for it was because they couldn't defeat her on a level court. Your comment should be at the top of this section.
I had to laugh a little when Chris Evert said that Steffi's topspin backhand was a new shot that she was working on with Heinz Gunthardt. Steffi hit that backhand aplenty in the 80s. Chris herself played against Steffi where Steffi hit those types of backhands (1986 Hilton Head, 1989 Boca Raton, etc.). She hit it less often though in the 90s after her thumb injury and she was also playing against less net rushers so she didn't really need it.
@@PertSnergleman Hahaha. She has improved (in my opinion), but Virginia Wade is still my favorite woman commentator. Mary Carrillo is my LEAST favorite!
@Illya Kuryakin One thing that annoyed me in Evert's commentary at the 1999 French Open was that Steffi had a tendency to always hit crosscourt with her slice backhand. That was true from about 1990 to 1994 when she started hitting her groundstrokes much closer to her body. But in the late 80s (back when she played Chris herself) and 1995 onwards, Steffi had an amazing down the line slice backhand.
@GoTeam Well, she is now earning her living kissing Serena Williams' big fat ass. Just listen to her commentating Serena's matches, or defending her after one of her many tennis tantrums.
Graf fans love Monica's Dad. He was just the best Dad ever on tour. He obviously loved his daughter very much. But he had no negative animus against the players who had to play his daughter. He applauded their winners!!! A saint, I would say (unlike Steffi's father, or Djokovic's, or Pierce's and many others...).
@@carrerau7138 No, I have never read anything about that. I do not think it ever happened. But if it did, I can understand it; the circumstances were such that he was afraid for his daughter's life. So shove it.
@@anthonydecastro6938 Pa Seles called Steffi the “Stabbing No. 1“ and criticized her for not leaving the tour for the same time as his daughter needed to recuperate physically and psychologically. I lost all respect for him after that. And my respect for Monica is also very limited after she insinuated in interviews and in her book that Steffi voted against her keeping the #1 ranking after the stabbing. Conclusion: You are not a nice and classy person just because you or your daughter gets stabbed.
You are wrong, both Steffi’s parents have applauded her opponent’s winners. You need to watch more matches and stop concentrating on the negatives. Also, Karolj did say those things insinuating that it was Steffi’s fault : "It means to Monica not to ever again come to Germany and also not to play tennis until Graf is not competing," said a distraught Karolj Seles - NY Times April 30, 1995. It’s good to get the correct facts before mouthing off.

Simona Halep is one answer to the question. She is probably even speedier than Graf was. A good test would be timing the sprint from side to side behind the baseline 2 times, even 3 times in a row if such comparable clips can be found. I am persuaded that Halep is as fast, if not faster than Graf on this specific side-to-side sprint. Another test would be timing on rushing to the net to retrieve a dropshot starting from the baseline. Halep is built like an 100m Olympic sprinter, Graf more like an Olympic decathloner, more of an all-round athlete. On linear speed alone, my money is on Halep, ha, ha. Watch her in the 2019 Wimbledon final against Serena Williams.

I believe Steffi Graf and Seles are a lot like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. If Monica’s fate were different, I think their rivalry and grand slam count would be similar to Roger and Rafa’s. If we had to only consider Monica’s years of absence, who would you think would win those GS if Monica was still competing? 🤔 Please be thoughtful in your reply and consider the other competitors who won those Slams were either their shining moment, stronger on that tennis surface, etc. No matter how great a tennis player was, it’s impossible to stay and maintain their peak for a prolonged period of time. Graf always gave Seles her biggest whooping's at Wimbledon. besides this one there was also a 6-0 6-1 in 1989. Interesting is also that Seles's two HC wins came only on the very slow ReboundAce surface at the AO (it was changed in 2008). So on faster surfaces (grass, carpet, normal hard court) Steffi is 7-0 win/loss against Seles (14-2 in sets). Which makes Selestial nutters' claims that Seles would have continued to dominate post-93 asinine.
Chris Evert always said Kipling's famous poem "If" that hangs in the players lounge right before they take to Center Court, those words affected how she would handle herself as a tennis player. I loved Seles too but the grunting turned me off at times especially against the journeyman players in earlier rounds. Not very professional. But Seles came from poverty in Serbia. And her father found a way during Communism and hard economic times to finance her play as a cartoonist. She literally grew up playing on dirt, not clay actual dirt. She was that poor. This was when Wimbledon was Wimbledon !!!! The old slick grass , replaced in 2002 , with a firmer blade , higher bounce , which changed the whole beauty of the tournament, in thos e days you had “specialists ‘’ , grass , and clay court specialists , thus providing better theater , no contrasts any longer and the game has taken a step back , all baseline play . Sad 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
its kind of very sad that those specialists dissappeared. to win on very different surfaces was the greatest challenge for a player to show completion. thats all gone now. nowadays they'e all hittng as hard as possble from the baseline. they play in wimbledon the same as they do at the us open. gone the days when wimbledon was the greatest obstacle for the baseliners to go for the grand slam. gone the days when it was an almost unsolvabe challenge for the clay champs of the french open to add a wimbledon victory. in my eyes, the nowadays players arent even capable anymore of approaching the net, if this would be the logical thing to do. certainly here is a niche for young players to learn to do so - in order to rise the game again on a higher level.

They keep on harping on 1988, as if 1989 wasn't a good year at all for Steffi!!! She lost RG to Sanchez Vicario, but won the other three and actually had an almost perfect win-loss record for the year (2nd only to Navratilova). In two years time, Steffi won 7 of 8 grand slams

I have watched Wimbledon every year since 1980. This one was so long ago I can't remember who won this final match. it is like watching it live all over again. 😀
Even without "Grunt Gate" hanging over this match, I still think it was Graf's match to win. It was just her day, everything seemed to be working for her---close line calls, aces, shots right on the line, etc. Seles had "Grunt Gate" hanging over her like a dark cloud over Wimbledon ready to burst any minute. In previous rounds, Seles' opponents Tauziat (Qtrs) and Navratilova (semis) both complained to the umpire numerous times about Monica's grunting. The British press had a field day about Monica's grunting that it dominated all the news headlines. Even the commentators in the broadcast booth couldn't stop talking about it. Even a player with Monica's mental strength, it's tough to block it out. Graf had three weeks to think about the close loss in Paris and how she had her chances in that match. To her credit she did not exhibit the tentative uncertainty she showed at the French. In winning or losing, Monica showed the same graceful composure. Chris Evert always said it's how you handle winning and losing with the same balance that will define you as a player. That's the mark of a champion.
One thing people seem to forget is that Seles' grunting was not warmly received by the tennis community...not just Wimbledon. She already had a reputation of being eccentric and paranoid (ironically), the loud grunts were viewed as a form of gamesmanship meant to throw off her opponents. Whether true or not, this match backfired in the sense that it demonstrated Seles could turn off the grunting at will, like you turn off a light. Of course these days, a lot of players grunt...ever seen a match between Azarenka and Sharapova? It will make your ears bleed.
I love steffi but i would like to say monica was very humble in defeat. She never made excuses but just praised steffi for really beating her here, giving the credit to her opponent. Not all women tennis players are like that.
Steffi dominated the game thru and thru. Very nice win. What an elegant chase and her speciality slicing. Happy that I watched it live then and feeling very happy to have watched it now too 👍

Steffi played truly immaculate tennis here, and was even surprising herself with how well she was playing and the shots she was producing. Monica was clearly flat and distracted which certainly didn’t help her cause. It was very much Steffi’s day while the opposite was true of Monica. Still some amazing rallies and shotmaking on both ends.
Graf played such an astute match here. Didn't try to blast Seles off the ground, but moved her in ungainly positions, kept great depth off her forehand and was willing to move forward whenever possible. Plus she was as fleet footed as ever.
Monica's grunting was unprecedented in 1992, thus Martina Navratilova had every right to complain about it. Ironically, Steffi Graf never once issued a complaint, yet she has been vilified for Seles' loss. In addition, there was nothing in their previous grass court match up that would have suggested that Steffi was going to lose.
@@rolandgreen7484 Seles had that grunt since she was a child; just like she was double-handed. Restricting her grunt is like restricting her skills. Even if Graf wins the championship with Monica grunting, I doubt it would be so one-sided like this match. You're an imbecile and you know so little about psychology.
When the Williams sisters introduced screaming and howling, the announcers were extremely annoyed and distracted, many players, too, but since they were black they let it go after a few complaints that went unsuccessful.
I like them both but think overall Graf is the superior player because she is able to adjust to other players style and will find a strategy to eventually come on top - Seles had the skill to send bullets with great angles and yet Graf destroyed her in this match. Seles has never destroyed Seles in their 15 meetings. 1990 to 1992 were years were even Sabatini won plenty matches against Steffi who was in freefall mentally with personal matters which I feel truly affected her game. When she got out of it, her fierceness came back running. Without that freefall I think Seles would not hold 5 wins aginst her but at most 3. This has nothing to do with the stabbing and/or how things could have developed. Steffi's game was simply a better fit for finding solutions to win.
Steffi played the perfect match. She was so focused and relentless. When her serve is at 80+ she’s unbeatable. She was so aggressive and so much quicker footwork on grass. She was determined to avenge Paris defeat.
grass typically favours the better mover, and the more versatile player - cue roger federer, martina navratilova - as a seles fan, I was surprised she handily got by martina the latter in the semis (she had a Wimbledon championship in her - see marion bartoli). but graf, the obvious favourite had a score to settle and played beautifully. the footwork was particularly impressive.
"Steffi is playing the last few matches like she won the grand slam." Chris Evert at 49:00. Sad we couldnt watch how this great rivalery would have emerged. It had just reached a first peak. When they met, it was like before high noon.
Steffi Graf played so well during this match. She was so mentally tough. Steffi was so amazing to watch. Seles’ father was a very nice man. He would always clap for the opponent.
@Max E I think we can all be a little more forgiving after all those years. Yes, the father of Seles said mean and unfair things after the attack, but then, just imagine how you would have felt if this had happened to your daughter. Such a terrible event.
@Max E Please try to read my message and comprehend the content again. If you do, your answer becomes non-sensical. I neither can judge whether he was nice or not (and I would not do that by television only). I just asked you to look at it from a more objective point of view. This was before the stabbing and obviously the stabbing has changed his life dramatically. There are people who are good-hearted and then things are happening to them that make them bitter. That is life.
Even without the stabbing and if Steffi had never won another GS after 1992 - she still is a legend. Why? she is, up to this date, the only one to win the Golden Slam. That alone qualifies her, period.
@@ChicanoPhD ... and that competition was weak was her fault?! Besides that, before Seles appeared, Navratilova still won about 6-8 tournaments a year, not too bad for "an ageing tennis player". What competition did Seles have except for Graf if the others were so weak? Monica faced the same players as Stefanie did...

I loved how Steffi's mom would applaud for Seles and Monica's dad for Graf.
Those two are the only "normal ones" from both families

GOAT!

Back in 80's -90's and early 2000's, WTA Girlies had to play their best to defeat their opponents
Nowadays, the WTA girlies just hope that their opponents have bad time & bad mood 🤷🤷

Chris herself played against Steffi where Steffi hit those types of backhands (1986 Hilton Head, 1989 Boca Raton, etc.). She hit it less often though in the 90s after her thumb injury and she was also playing against less net rushers so she didn't really need it.

That was true from about 1990 to 1994 when she started hitting her groundstrokes much closer to her body. But in the late 80s (back when she played Chris herself) and 1995 onwards, Steffi had an amazing down the line slice backhand.

The footspeed of Steffi at her best has still to be parallelled by any woman in tennis.
So much hunger and fight. And I would pull for them far more than the Williams sisters or anyone who acts entitled and aggressive whether they're American or not. Heidi looked attractive and quite stunning without a cigarette in her hand.
At 24:00 Seles thought she had that point won, but no other woman had the quickness & power to reach that ball and flick it back to her other than Graf!! Amazing!!!!
Monica’s game not made for grass and that final was wet and many delays , not her day and Graf played well

The way Monica handled defeat was exemplary.
1992 was her best year ever and last chance for a calendar Grand Slam sweep of all 4 majors.
Chris Evert always said Kipling's famous poem "If" that hangs in the hallway right before players take to Center Court, those words shaped how she conducted herself as a tennis player.
The words to "If" are:
"If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same".
Chris and Monica two exemplary champions how they handle both victory and defeat.
Seles never had any chance to win the Grand Slam.
It would have needed Steffi bombing out before the finals in BOTH Wimbledon AND the USO.
Seles will never have chance to win all 4 Grandslam in same calendar year.
Might be possible only in your personal dreams. Chris Evert is the biggest Steffi's haters and biggest slave of Seles. Evert has a high ego
Both Chrissy and Martina have been rats, always degrading Steffi, #TheGOAT, because she put an end to their careers.
IF, if only you people weren't tiktok educated it would show.
Your comment ist unfair, No Chris Evert hast high respect for Steffi as she lost more than one time against her.
Shocked they only met three times at Wimbledon in their careers, Graf winning all 3 matches rather easily. Grass court tennis is a different game of tennis than other two combined. The ball bounces low and unpredictably. Grass rewards the player with best serve and volley skills. Quick reactions with the intent of looking to hit the ball out of the air.

Even though it was shortened by that awful stabbing, this was a great rivalry. Steffi Graf's forehand surely is the most versatile of them all, men or women. So much power down the line or inside out and with great disguise. Her backhand slice was simple superb and it got so much better as opponents began avoiding her frightening forehand. Brilliant serving and coupled with majestic footwork she is surely the greatest women's singles champion of them all.
I think Steffis greatest asset was her speed. She was physically the best player on tour especially her footspeed.

Seles should be thrilled. All she did was get destroyed in a match she was ALWAYS losing anyway but without the grunting there would be no excuse to latch onto. Instead now her retarded fan base have yet another excuse (to go with stabbing excuse, daddy sick excuse, too fat excuse, too young excuse, too old excuse, too much Chinese buffets excuse) to conveniently tack onto another of her big losses. Typical Seles fan or Selestial as they are known response "Peak Seles was bestest and greatest and prettiest and perfectest player everywhere, even grass, yeah I know she had no Wimbledons but she is still the best ever even on grass, and she really won all those Wimbledons since she only didn't win in 91 since she was fucking Donald Trump, in 90 due to bad line calls, in 89 since she was too young, in 92 since she didn't grunt, every other year since she was stabbed, too fat, or too old". Seles fans give Nadal fanboys a run for their money of their undefeated moral champion, undefeated when you win, lol!
Sad 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Totally agree.
its kind of very sad that those specialists dissappeared. to win on very different surfaces was the greatest challenge for a player to show completion. thats all gone now. nowadays they'e all hittng as hard as possble from the baseline. they play in wimbledon the same as they do at the us open. gone the days when wimbledon was the greatest obstacle for the baseliners to go for the grand slam. gone the days when it was an almost unsolvabe challenge for the clay champs of the french open to add a wimbledon victory. in my eyes, the nowadays players arent even capable anymore of approaching the net, if this would be the logical thing to do. certainly here is a niche for young players to learn to do so - in order to rise the game again on a higher level.
Yeah it sucks now

I have watched Wimbledon every year since 1980. This one was so long ago I can't remember who won this final match. it is like watching it live all over again. 😀
Steffi without doubt had the best sexiest legs in professional sport - then and now. Perfect shape and length. Legendary champion.
Her nose is too big.
In that case Serena is the worst champion ever. If there is something that she can't handle is loosing and body fat

Steffi played truly immaculate tennis here, and was even surprising herself with how well she was playing and the shots she was producing.

Chuckie Nestle said!!
1990 to 1992 were years were even Sabatini won plenty matches against Steffi who was in freefall mentally with personal matters which
I feel truly affected her game. When she got out of it, her fierceness came back running. Without that freefall I think Seles would not hold 5 wins aginst her but at most 3. This has nothing to do with the stabbing and/or how things could have developed. Steffi's game was simply a better fit for finding solutions to win.
