I respect all of them, but for me Steffi is definitely the GOAT.
Another thrilling Wimbledon final by the great Steffi Graf against the tenacious Arantxa Sanchez Vicario. That second to last game in the 3rd set resulting in 13 deuces (32 points played) was so dramatic! My goodness what a tennis match between two champions fighting for the Wimbledon title!!! It was Steffi’s will and determination that earned her a 6th Wimbledon crown 👑 and her 17th grand slam victory!!!
Steffi was just the best and such a competitor. Wish she would return to Wimbledon and commentate. Also Sanchez was a great opponent and a great champion
I regard this as my favourite women's singles final at Wimbledon in my time watching tennis, so 1987 onwards. The eleventh game in the deciding set was an epic and both players gave absolutely everything.
No show, no comedy, no endless hugging, no instagram fame, just pure focus on the game... Graf/Sanchez-Vicario as a perfect microcosm for how much better these days were!
No more comments for this match. Impressed by Graf's athleticism and reluctance bit even more amazed by Arantxa's grit, spirit, and problem solving. All court tennis at its best. Especially the happy ending of sportsmanship from both.
Professionalism, conduct, focused, no frills, naturalness, class, grace, simplicity, and once again, just simply professional. Yes there naturally could have been some drama or moments of controversy, but just organically and then they get back to work.
Amazing how great tennis was during their era. Miss those days. Can’t and have stopped watching tennis especially Women’s. And once Federer, Nadal and the Croatian are gone, that’s it. The beauty of yesteryears players were their personalities and variety of style. Nowadays everyone seem to play the same style. And the noise! So off putting.
@@nonondriessen Seles and Pierce were slow on the tennis court, when compared to Graf, WS, Henin, Mauresmo, Clijsters. What they had were powerful ground strokes, especially Seles, who had equal power off both wings, because she used both hands on the forehand and backhand side.
Note how far left Steffi is standing when serving in the ad court. It's one of the tactical changes Heinz Gundhart encouraged Steffi to make: the idea being that she'd be able to get a better angle serving out wide in that court, and any returns that did come back would almost certainly allow her to hit a forehand away into the open court.
This has to be one of best matches ever played in Wimbledon. I watched this live back in the day but didn't remember Arantxa was that good. Her groundstrokes from both sides were hit so free flowing and with power. Also she was able to slice successfully from both sides. The 11th game in the 3rd set was SUUPPPEEER long and Arantxa ran slightly out of gas. But she was able to give Steffi that hard match and f.ex. Seles never played at anything near this level in Wimbledon. Sanchez should have won more Slams but I guess she wasn't consistent enough. This match somekind reminded me of Venus vs Steffi in 1999 even if Steffi played better here.
LDVTennis can’t get anywhere talking to an idiot 😂 Seles was dominating her before the stabbing- no argument against that. That facts are there in black in white. It’s not a nice truth, but it’s the truth
Champion status match. It was so fun to watch the two headbanded warriors. Arantxa with that fighting spirit and personality against the unrelenting machine. That Graf forehand was so mesmerizingely scary 😨 and also admired how she kept things classy. It's close🤔 but I prefer Arantxas ensemble🙃😜. It was the one of times when the Spanish pocket battleship could stand the heavy German artillery (even though Sanchez lost), especially the forehand. Most times--I googled, it was 28-8 head-to-head--Graf won on a canter.
¡Qué gran final, la recuerdo perfectamente! Arantxa hizo un partidazo y estuvo cerquísima de llevarse el título de Wimbledon, un año después de Conchita. Aún lamento las oportunidades que tuvo perdidas.

all the time asking myself, why "arantxa sanchez vicario" gets her FULL name on the scoreboard not leaving room for a single additional character, while steffi just gets "s. graf"...
Vicario lacked ruthlessness and killer-instinct in her final service game, the consequence of which probably affected her nerves and confidence (repeatedly going back to Deuce after having Advantage - like 5 or 6 times), and her nerves + confidence being affected granted Graf the initiative to break her and go on to win the match. I reckon that if Vicario had been more ruthless and thus won on her serve, then either Graf would've lost on her next service game (as Vicario would've been supremely confident and Graf shaky + nervous - final set 7-5 to Vicario), or the match would've gone to a tie-breaker (if Graf were to somehow hold on her serve), and Graf would've had the upper hand (having won 5 finals before at Wimbledon and having the killer instinct) and probably would've beaten Vicario like 7-4 or 7-5 in said tie-breaker, with the final set 7-6 to Graf. I liked both players, and felt happy for Graf while sorry for Vicario. Both superb tennis players!!! 😊
