the video was pretty straight forward. From what it covered, I use both hemispheres equally. I draw detailed artwork, calculate complex mathematics quickly in my head, communicate effectively in both written and spoken language, improv in iambic pentameter, and I'm extremely expressive both physically and while speaking. I remember addresses and phone numbers all the way back to age 3, as well as birth dates of everyone I've met, and social security numbers of my 4 children, both ex wives, and their driver license numbers. It's quite annoying at times.
Left is the I will remember and practice side which makes me really fast at doing things. The right is the I must understand how it works and how I will get there so that if I need to change it I can. Speed and accuracy is of no concern.
I’m a live sound engineer and mix sound for concerts. This makes a lot of sense. When I’m working I turn my back away from the band/stage and it sounds WAY DIFFERENT! Try this, at your next concert, turn away from the music and notice the difference.
Has anyone here taken a course on brain lateralization? What are your thoughts? Feel free to request new videos or topics for us. In our last one, someone mentioned wanting one on sleep disorders that involved feeling like you're being watched. Let us know if you guys would like something like that!
It`s possible for someone to have traits from both parts? I mean... I am ambidextrous and from the description I felt like I can relate to both but not entirely to one of them... I don`t know what to think when it comes to this topic.
Pretty much 99.9% people have all functions of both hemispheres, since both of hemispheres are talking between each other by a "connection" called _corpus callosum._ People can also pretty much learn to be ambidextrous, unless they only have one side of the brain. Then it's a bummer.
The last part about damage was rather important. Being born with a damaged right hemisphere has shaped my entire life, and I keep running into situations where I think a healthy person would not have the issues I do.
So to get the best of your brain you should practice with your non-dominant hand more to stimulate the non-dominant side of the brain because the hands are directly connect to the brain (as any other organs in your body).
I think I'm slightly more right brained.? My desk looks like a tornado went through it because all it is is clustered up art supplies. I'm kinda creative.? And I'm mostly driven by emotion.
I don't think the differences are quite as definite and universal as this video suggests. I'm very strongly left-handed but I've always excelled at logical and detail-oriented work - I have a degree in physics and spent years working as a (self-taught) programmer, and I've never shown any real creative talent. Had a stroke in 2017 which wiped out a large part of my left hemisphere and left me comatose for a month. Due to the location and extent of the damage I was not expected to recover the ability to speak or understand speech. The neurologists reckoned that I was one of the fairly large percentage of left-handers whose speech handling areas are on the right rather than the left. The problems I've suffered from the stroke are mainly with numbness and weakness on the right, problems with balance and proprioception, and following rapid speech or complex plots in films, tv and books. All things which I had no problem with before the stroke. Otherwise my mental faculties are remarkably intact - seems that neuroplasticity is a near-magical thing, and the brain may not be as modular and compartmentalised as we think.
Thank you, people with dyslexia is right brain focused, thinking more in abstract then logic. It is harded to comprehen linerar thinking for both myself and my partner.
Actually, there's new evidence that we've had the two hemispheres reversed for quite a while now. This is coming from my cognitive science class just this past spring semester as an undergrad: the left is actually the creative side involving language production and narrative cohesion, whereas the right is the literal and factual details-oriented side. In other words, the left is philosophically minded while the right is mathematically minded.
I've always been artistic it's my passion but just a few years ago I was the victim of an assault which left me with TBI and I've become even more creative even though it's more of a challenge with the physical problems I've been left with, I'm also right handed so I'm not sure I go with this stuff.
It’s ironic that I use both sides constantly but both sides also follow the rules of being damaged. I haven’t been subjected to traumatic brain injury. Maybe ptsd symptoms but idk
So how is this in my self? 1. I can raise the upper left of my lips 2. I can raise my right eyebrow 3. It is way more easier for me to blink my left eye rather than my right eye 4. And i am Right handed. Is it normal? And in my entire elementary years, my medals are all "Most Creative" Not for being arogant here, but i'm just curious. _reply_
Look on the bright side the fact that you can still identify the cause of your problem gives me hope, any one else show/raise of hands or likes? obviously it has to mean you’re in the category of (Hippocampus).

Maybe but both SideS of my brain were pierCed by weird whiStling, happening with every 'S' and 'C' sound. Please @Psych2Go be more carefull with sound-tests!
I'm right handed but I'm definitely more right brained. Although I can logically think too and have trouble with creativity sometimes I'm not good with words either. Tbh i relate to both...
Definitely my brain dominant is right brain cause I'm left handed here's why Left hand use 1.I use my left hand for writing 2.i use my left hand to hold a sword 3.I use my left hand for punching 4.I use my left hand for holding a spoon And I'm using both my right hand and my left hand to type in computer phone etc..
Ahhh... I spent hours constantly over analalysing my behaviour to figure out which brain hemisphere is dominant I'm dying pls... Also this reminds me of matpat's undertale theories..
So nobody is going to mention the gun wielding polar bear? Alright. 😂 Love your channel guys. I took AP Psych last year and this August I'll be starting my journey to become a child therapist, so it's good to watch these so I don't get too rusty before the semester starts.

Whoa, when I take online quizzes they tell I use both sides equally but according to this video, all of the things I find difficult (turning ideas into words, turning details into a big picture, dealing with the cold, and fine motor skills when playing instruments) are all left brain things. And even though I'm right handed, I use my left eye way more than my right
I'm most definitely left-brained ... you can actually see it in my avatar picture (MRI mirrors left & right). And that's why I'm particularly interested in what deficits (or imbalances by the dominating left-side) I might have - you know, what to put more effort in, what's not worth the efforts etc... Any concrete tips & advices would be very welcomed!
Hmm... If the right side is more creative why do some videos/people say bein left handed is a sign of being smart? Is this just a myth? I never really believed in it but I've been obsessed with that recently.
I’m not sure which I’m more of. I want to pursue art and language/literature and I’m in marching band, but math’s also a subject I enjoy. Hate science though that gets dull.
I’m left handed and left handed controllers are connected on to the right Brian side, and I am on the right side cuz I think I am very creative and bright
is this true?? Because I have heard that this is a misconception and that we use both sides equally. We don't use one side more than the other. I am confused hahah.
Which side of the brain makes the voice talent say "Ek-setera" ? Personally I'm both. Left handed... creative... yet logical. I'm like the Left and Right Twix candy bars. They are the same.
Ik we use both hemispheres equally but I think that I'm a lot more analytical than creative therefore I believe that me left side is my dominant side of my brain
We gotta work on the two sides to improve our brains power, and so that would be by learning things that helps in the 2 sides.. Though I think i am a left brain.
Well, I'm really confused. At the the beginning of the video, you said, right is controlled by the left and vise versa. You're dominant side, and what side of the brain it is controlled by, is you're dominant side of the brain. Well, I'm right handed, but I've always based myself on creativity, rather than knowledge or the literal world. If you know why this is please tell me.
I write and draw with my left hand but do most other stuff with the right one... I'm ambidextrous in many tasks, love languages (including grammar), mathematics, logic (I'm a programmer since childhood) and creativity (especially making improv music)... Basically creative logic? Also polar bears in my area only have nerf guns. Which brain half am I? The only thing I know for sure is that both halves wrote this comment in great unison lol
If I work on both side of my brain then I will lessen one side...I don ‘t want to be more imaginative and creative I prefer logical reasoning... So Ill pick my right hand over left

I am right handed. I act more right brained but i might go grammar-power. I suck at math. I do art and some piano, even a bit of not drums drums (tapping spoons, walls, etc.) I think im a 50/50
I've come to a conclusion… I have no brain. Neither side works.

Thats a solid answer but feel like the right of the brain is more self control and emotional intelligence

1.I use my left hand for writing
2.i use my left hand to hold a sword
3.I use my left hand for punching
4.I use my left hand for holding a spoon
And I'm using both my right hand and my left hand to type in computer phone etc..

Just came to know that I am half left brained and half right brained... is that even possible?😂
Great video as always!
I wonder if your brain can change dominance on wich side it focuses on. Or even if you could achieve the perfect balance and not have a dominant side.
Exactly my thought, I think my brain acts according to the situation present. Not sure which side is dominant. Anyhuuu I'll keep observing self
Ahhh... I spent hours constantly over analalysing my behaviour to figure out which brain hemisphere is dominant I'm dying pls...
Also this reminds me of matpat's undertale theories..
I am confused. I am very logical but I also spend lots of time creating boxes in my mind and estimating their size
The theory is wrong. You can be both logical and creative.
You had me at "gun-wielding polar bears".

my friend test me which brain i uses more. she asked me some questions and some i answer right, some i answer wrong....she said i use both more.

Can you do a video on how to know if you're the left side or right side of the brain?
i'm both because i like math games and riddles, but i also like writing music and poems, etc..
so basically i'm a light
im right handed but feel more right brained
I'm most definitely left-brained ... you can actually see it in my avatar picture (MRI mirrors left & right).
And that's why I'm particularly interested in what deficits (or imbalances by the dominating left-side) I might have - you know, what to put more effort in, what's not worth the efforts etc...

btw this was interesting
also is it bad that my right side of my head (and since I'm left handed I assume my right side is dominant) get alot of painful headaches
is this true?? Because I have heard that this is a misconception and that we use both sides equally. We don't use one side more than the other. I am confused hahah.

Well, I'm really confused. At the the beginning of the video, you said, right is controlled by the left and vise versa. How can we become more dominate in a different hemisphere, or work out the other side?
Firstname Lastname yeah i need to become dominant in my left side
This is really interesting to learn!

gun wielding polar bears............cute.
Both of the sides of mine work so fast but right is faster and dominant.
My right side is over working and you got the rest
It is actually a myth and it has been proven . We are all both brained dominates and We all use both sides of our brain depending on what we do. Exactly! I am completely right hand dominant person, i absolutely love science and puzzle solving (left brain traits).
But traits like:
Emotional intelligence
Imaginative
Philosophical
Fantasy based
Impetuous
Risk taking
These are my dominant characters which are obviously right brain traits
