This is really cool! After watching some of your previous videos with the gridded texture plate that you can peel the old paint off like a mesh, I had this same idea - to use lino plates - to try to recreate that texture. For that, though, an exacto knife might work better than the v-tool. There are definitely an infinite number of possibilities using lino plates and tools. Thanks for the video!
OHH I love love love carving stamps. I started in October and because I'm obsessive compulsive slightly...lol I've made over 300. It has been sooo much fun!!! Oh I also use the pink rubber because I have a damaged hand so it's easier on it. I'm now working on giant ones for the really big plate. Can't wait to print some with those.....Thanks for sharing!! OHH for anyone else out there that might have a hand issue, I use the palm cutters, it's much easier on the whole hand. Flexcut carving tools makes them.....
Very cool looking! The roll off paper looks cool, too. Do you save those to use?
Great timing. I’ve been looking at getting the pink Lino for trying to make my first lino cutting to stamp on the gel plate. I learned from you and loved your results. Thank you!
Thanks for watching.
I use the pink carving blocks and they seem to work much better on my gel plates. The images I get have much higher contrast which is fun when layering colours. I don't find them hard to carve, but maybe they harden with age?
Hi Susan, really enjoyed this video. Lovely prints and colour combinations. I thought that the clean gel plate could give a good surface for printing on - Ink up the Lino block, lay the paper on the clean gel plate and then stamp the block on to the paper. I wonder if this less hard surface would help to transfer the paint and mimics the gel plate print process. I should try it to see if it works. Just a thought!
Love how this came out, especially red paynes grey and lighter grey. Great idea. I may try it myself! Happy New Year!
Love it
When you squeeze out too much paint just unscrew the lid and scoop it back in with a pallet knife! I know you use your roll off sheets but, I just hate brayering off excess paint. I really must get back to cutting stamps, thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you! I like the "bubbles" stencil you use; is it your own design? Is it available for purchase?😊
Yes, it is! All my stencils are here. I'm not sure which one you are referring to but there aren't many so it should be easy to find. susanclifton.com/stencils-masks-mixed-media-artwork/
Do you have to was the paint off shortly after using it so it doesn't harden/fill in?
Love it. Why not just draw on the plate?
Sometimes there are different techniques that give you a result you can't draw. I find that trying to paint on the plate just doesn't look very good. It wasn't meant for that.
