  • I've been using the Speedball carving tool for my linocuts for around 15 years....and no hate toward the Speedball tool. It's awesome. But I've had my eye on some higher quality carving tools that can carve all kinds of lino, or wood, that are easily sharpened and sturdy so I wanted to give the Flexcut tools a try! This video is not sponsored - I wanted to share my experience using these tools for the first time! I hope you enjoyed it and if you have been thinking of getting some Flexcut tools, it's definitely worth it!
Here is a link to my online shop if you like the print I made in this video, or if you want to check out my other work!

I just bought a set of Flexcut tools, and they are really fantastic. I am left-handed, which I think is why I had so much trouble with the Speedball interchangeable tools. The pressure of my thumb against the tool with left-handed cuts would unscrew them, and the blade would fly out after a few cuts. I also like that having a set of tools mean you can switch tools very quickly without having to screw them in each time.

Oh I had never considered that the speedball tool would unscrew itself as you use it left handed!! I do love that I can change the size of the blade very quickly with a set like the flexcut tools...and i feel like they will last me much longer!

This gave me an idea. My wrists have taken a beating from sports, a small lazy Susan would allow one to turn the lino easier. Maybe? Cool video! Apreaciate the insight!!

As someone who used to work for this company, I am asking all print makers and woodcarvers to boycott Flexcut. I’m a master printmaker who is employed by them and they are the worst company I’ve ever worked for and they have an abusive workplace culture that treats employees like shit. I’ll never use one of their tools ever again.

Oh no! I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. What happened? And what tools would you recommend as an equal replacement?

I am also interested in knowing why. I have yet to find a different brand.
We use these in my classes and I have the ones where you switch the blades in the handles. They are a pain since the hole in the handle can get jammed and pliers are required to insert and remove the blades. Which then become a safety hazard from yanking sharp blades.

I'm not going to boycott something on your word alone, especially since you offered no proof. I can also find NO examples of such behavior about this company ANYWHERE. Still plan on buying them, sorry.
