MH3 Tamiyo is trash and overrated and no one should run it so it should be sold at bulk prices. Signed, Someone who wants a copy for his EDH deck but doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg for one
Yeah Tamiyo very powerful. Yesterday had a long and interactive Modern game where I was playing Grixis Phoenix using Buried alive, and I was playing against Mono Black Coffers. Game was very interactive but Tamiyo generated like 5 Clues and then flipped, and even though it cost me 3 Shredders I got to the ultimate and then you know, the super close game became an easy w. All in all not bad for a 1 mana card to draw 5 and later draw 16
That first game made me realise what the downside of Mana Drain as opposed to Counterspell is supposed to be: Mana Burn. In this game if mana burn had existed still, he would have taken 7 damage from it after countering the titan of industry
Not if you're trying to flip by turn 3. Treasure Cruise is much better in graveyard focused decks or for the late game. If you do the math, assuming optimal grave filling, you fetch land + 1 mana spell turn 1 (2), fetch land + two 1 mana spells turn 2 (5), fetch land + 1 mana spell (7) + Tamiyo + cruise turn 3. Too many things need to go right to pull that off. Edit: just remembered DRC, but that doesn't help the math much. Turn 1 fetch + DRC (1), turn 2 fetch + two 1 mana spells + 2 DRC bins (6), turn 3 fetch land + one mana spell + DRC bin (9) + Tamiyo + Cruise. So it gives you a grand buffer of 2 whole cards by turn 3.
I do think faithless looting would be way better though, the difference between 1 and 3 means you can flip tamiyo on T2 if you draw it or flip tamiyo + leave up counter later
not me deliberately ulting tamiyo with a 250 card deck knowing my arena opponent can't resist casting orcish bowmasters into that juicy target and laughing while their client times out trying to order all of the triggered abilities muahahaha
Tamiyo says third card, so anything that draws 2 cards will also flip tamiyo if you started the turn with her in play. Theres a boatload of cards that draw 2 like Faithless.
Nah, I always get hungry with the intro. Come on, Chicken Stew, at least one finds their innervision after some Chic 'n' Stu. Then you do get the gas Bubbles, and once you hit the toilet, you paint the toilet brown with a Boom!, and then it gets very difficult to continue making a cohesive story of the tracks. But considering the other albums, it's surprising that you can make the song titles as cohesive on Steal This Album! because on the other 4 albums, it's not possible at all.
Seth, have you worked with Case of Pilfered Proof the and Ulvenwald Mysteries before? Crack a clue, get a 1/1 human creature token, when the token etbs, you get a clue? Combo requirements are heavy, but it's not the infinite combo itself that's fun, it's the clues you crack along the way. Case of the PP combo makes for a funny, if immature, name as well. Combo requirements: Case of the pilfered proof needs to be in play and online (so 3x assorted detectives in play at some point prior.) Ulvenwald mysteries must be in play. At this point the combo is functional, but not infinite. Add in a way to infinitely sac artifacts for free to finish the combo. Recommend tamyo's journal to help find combo pieces. I'd send my decklist, but frankly you'd probably replace 90% of it anyway since I'm pretty casual.
I really do wish you could report people for being dip wads. I’m tired of running into mono-red burn deck people spending every second of the game saying “Oops”, “Your go.”, and spamming emotes constantly because they know they have you and can’t help but gloat and be just…the worst kind of person. It always makes me want to queue up that scene from “Mean Girls” when Regina gets hit by the bus.
Tamiyo having a +2 instead of a +1 and giving -1 to your opponent's attackers every turn until she ultimates seems pretty freakin solid. Not Oko but still blue green good stuff and in this case you only need UR or UU or maybe a couple extra mana to make her a planeswalker turn 2. We've already seen how dangerous cards that cost 1GU have been lately. This is on par.
I'm with Seth 100% when it comes to Blood Moon. Domain and land based decks can be a very oppressive and hard to interact with deck because a lot of it's power comes from it's mana base and it's lands. Players have gotten too comfy running optimized mana bases and basic checking is a valid strategy. Every deck has a weakness, and domain/lands is blood moon. Blood moon is not an unbeatable card by any stretch.
Hear me out hear me out, turbo fog. +2 is a mini fog, -3 recurs a fog, -7 is a wincon that can be easily achieved through protecting it with fogs. Also if you use a teferi’s tutelage version turning your card draw into mill all of the brainstorms and other effects become much better and the -7 becomes an instant win without extra trouble. Plus things like the one ring act as fog, card draw, mill, and Tamio flipper. Plus you could add in the six and one ring loop as an extra wincon
Silly question: Mox Amber seems to be the only permanent fast mana available in Timeless. What about playing that because you can turn 1 Island, Tamiyo, Mox, Brainstorm and have it as a Planeswalker on turn 1? Is it worth it?
If I had a nickel for every time a Planeswalker’s Ultimate gave you an Emblem that only said “You have no maximum hand size” on it, I’d have 3 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened again!
So this is a weird question for the nerds in the comments Why the heck does Tamiyo's backside have a dual-color border? She is still simply Blue from the front-side cost right? Since she has no text saying she's now Blue-Green, nor an alternative backside cost, she just has her -3 interact with Green

I can't be the only one who is still annoyed that Lightning Bolt still has the fire sfx and vfx as opposed to the lightning ones. I don't even play a format it's legal in but it still gets me when I watch content with it.
Yep Tamiyo is actually busted. Being able to get it down turn 1 and block Ragavan, or swing for clues, or attempt to flip it turn 2 either way its doing awesome stuff and I'd be very surprised if she didn't become a modern and legacy staple
It's like tasha, unholy archmage expect it's cheaper, can make a clue, has a +2 instead of a +1, sticks around after the ultimate because 8 - 7 is 1, and they slapped draw half your deck on it instead of steal three random creatures from your opponent's deck. The only "downsides" are it can be bolted or pushed away, you have to wait a turn to flip it if you play it on turn 1, and you have to cast brainstorm or something else that draws enough cards to flip it. OH NO! NOT DRAWING CARDS! Yeah this card's insane. Tasha's plus ability is stronger because it gives -1 to toughness as well, but in terms of the planeswalker protecting themselves, they both do basically the same thing in most cases. I would argue that both of their pluses are equal as powerful if you consider the affect and the amount of loyalty gained. Tasha has the upside of killing 1 toughness creatures, but Tamiyo has the upside of gaining 2 loyalty instead of 1. If 2 damage is getting through to these planeswalkers each turn, then Tasha will be losing loyalty, whereas Tamiyo's loyalty will stay the same, and it would require 3 damage to be getting through in order for Tamiyo's loyalty to start going down. Tasha can also ultimate 1 turn sooner, but it won't stick around if you do that. If you want tasha to stick around, then they both ultimate in the same number of turns. And I'm comparing Tamiyo to Tasha because it's one of if not the closest comparison, and it's still not even close. Tamiyo is absolutely insane. It's hard to counter Tamiyo both physically, like game rules, and mentally. Physical - Some formats really struggle to or can't counter a turn 1 Tamiyo if they are on the draw. If we're talking standard, paying the 1, 2, or 3 is pretty easy since it's only 1 mana. Mental - It really just feels bad if you counter a 1 mana spell whether it's Tamiyo or brainstorm, especially if it's later in the game, but the card is so powerful, you might have to. Also, Tamiyo is above the curve in terms of power and toughness. Having 3 toughness is no big deal in formats with bolt and push. The extra point of toughness might stop an unholy heat, but that's about it, but in standard, a 3 toughness creature usually requires 2 mana to kill. In conclusion, cards that give you an upside for doing what you already want to do are always very powerful. Tamiyo doesn't require you to go out of your way AT ALL in order to get it's upside. Tamiyo is insane and is looking like the new Ragavan of MTG.
You don’t even need brainstorm tamiyo flips from chart a course just fyi; T1 land, Tamiyo, T2 land, attack with Tamiyo (you don’t have to) Chart a Course. Flip Tamiyo

Tamiyo is insane and is looking like the new Ragavan of MTG.
havent they learned that using leyline of the guildpact is fantastic way to get domain turn 1?
"Moons over my Tammy" is right there but everyone is calling it "tamiyo moon" instead
31:09 If I had to steal 1 album, I would steal Steal This Album by System of a Down.
43:05 “you know what’s not annoying though”
- person about to do something very annoying
Weird how, with exception of one opponent, everyone's name ended with MTG.
Was expecting the "And Seth beat me silly with blood moon in early access..." to be in this, mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :p
There are two cards I associate with Seth moth than any other card - blood moon and siege rhino.
You don’t even need brainstorm tamiyo flips from chart a course just fyi; T1 land, Tamiyo, T2 land, attack with Tamiyo (you don’t have to) Chart a Course. Flip Tamiyo
I want to brew with her in blue white control in modern. With the new magus of the seas lol.
I don't steal records, because I'm an honest man, mr California.
39 minutes Seth should have used his 2 mana from mana drain for the clue.
Tamiyo in brainstorm format seems pretty nuts. Also note Tamiyo only needs to draw 3 total cards in a turn so 1 and 2 mana draw two effects also flip her turn 2(things like chart a course, izzet charm, and tempest heart)
I had never seen a psychic frog before. That card is fucking adorable.
Some rise. Some fall. Some crawl. To get to psychic frog. Shit, now I have the dead in my head. Wait, were you also humming Terrapin?
Tamiyo and Kappa won me several games in a draft, even though I rare-drafted. That combo by itself is nasty enough it gets busted if allowed to linger.
t1 tamiyo t2 winged words is enough to flip tamiyo can be done in modern
This week we got a Drawfee episode called "Opening Magic Packs [...]" and an MTGGoldfish episode titled "Drawing [...]"
Tamiyo seems, among a few notable others, the perfect epitome of MH3. It's specifically strong in the control shell instead of broadly good and I appreciate that
Didn't think I'd hear a King Gizz reference in a MTGA video
Should have added emurcule in the deck and called it imprisoned in the moon lol
Was really excited to see this deck until I saw it wasn’t modern 😢
i feel like tamiyo only seems strong in a deck like this one. I think she would be pretty hard to protect if you didn't have a hand full of counters and bolts. honestly blood/flood moon seemed like the real game winners here.
I’m surprised anyone else knows The Flaming Lips. Seems like they were mostly popular in Oklahoma.
For a finisher I would suggest something like Glint-Horn Buccaneer plus Bomat Courier.
"Tamiyo's backside doesn't look that exciting"
How about a set of Lotus Paddles?
You could flip her on the first turn and could easily produce Red mana after Bloodmoon
Game 1 proved ONLY that Mana Drain is busted
Will seth finally realize why you shouldn't salty scoop
