I Accidentally Bought a $100 MTG Ebay Collection

- I randomly bid $100 on a Magic: the Gathering collection on Ebay thinking there was one way I would actually win, but it turns out that no one else placed a bid, so I guess it's time to crack this collection open and find out if I wasted my money!
Today's video is brought to you by Card Kingdom. You can pick up some Magic: the Gathering cards (and help support the show) at www.cardkingdom.com/mtggoldfish Игры
Each pack contains 30 years of Magics history. This random eBay buy was a better product than the 30th edition!
For future openings, would love to see your ‘wrap up’ after you’ve added it up so you can discuss in the context of the final $
This!
Massive agree!
I'll add that to the future! Good idea.
I second this
I was going to comment the same thing! Would be nice to see the reaction!
It is nice to know that Seth pretended to make “piles” to “organize” the loot. Just to see the cards end up sliding around like a darn etch-a-sketch. I personally could never live in such a world of chaos. More power to Mr. Olive. I do have to say, the new small side quest videos are all gems. ❤
Hornet Cannon is an uncommon.
Circle of Protection: Artifacts is 3+ dollars
Balduvian Trading Post is 3+ dollars
Heart of Yavimaya is 2,50+ dollars
Utopia Tree is 2,50+ dollars
Righteous War is reserved list and 3,50+ dollars
Thanks!
Normally for prices I only show cards that are $3 or more, but it's nice to know there some more value in there!
if you catalogued all thes cards. youll probably have 300 in value. @@MTGGoldfishUnboxings
I find bulk lots vastly more interesting than booster box openings. More of this! Especially with all the historical cards, this was fun :)
We're all lucky that Seth is such a happy and good-natured fellow because his Id is completely unchecked.
Definitely haha. If he were a racist or whatever, it would've come out in his very first video 😂. He's the chillest dude.
His ID?
@@Davidbruun I think they're referring to the psychological concept of "id". It's not really in date any more, but it's still an important part of the history of psychology.
@@thedude5able yeah, it's the concept of "id", it's basically a mix of impulse and self-gratification.
@@thedude5ablenot really in date is perhaps the nicest way ive seen to say "completely discredited"
I can tell Seth is old school because he called it "Cop Artifacts".
I love how gloom specifically says that circles of protection cost more 😂
I had to go back and check because I didn’t remember Gloom saying that 😂 I started during revised and just completely forgot it said anything about enchantment activations, let alone it calling out COP’s specifically on the A/B/U versions
guy playing circle of protection tribal getting wrecked loll
FYI. Most ebay collections are sifted through and priced above retail. Alot of card shops sell on eBay to get rid of bulk rares.
Yeah, Seth bought because he saw the gloom and beta lands in there. Which made it comparatively safe to buy
@@derrickthewhite1 how accidentally
The gold signature art cards are typically worth $1 each, unless it's a chase card like tiamat in AFR, where it can be upwards of $30. The luxior giada's gift, 13:20 , Is worth $2. Personally I collect them, and I think they are worth something.
Glad that there's now an mtg goldfish channel dedicated to this now. Can't wait to see future content!
I like that seth started to sort when he opened pack 1. After a while, it just became one pile... XD
To me it looks like a card store is liquidating their stockpile and getting out of magic entirely.
Very odd mix of cards and amounts of certain cards! I love looking through collections 😊
Most expensive magic card Bear has eaten?
Love those 2 Roc of Kher Ridges. Hands down best looking red card in ABU!
When did this channel start! Love all your content Seth! Much love to the whole MTG goldfish crew, including Timmy
We just started it a week ago!
This was really cool content Seth, I enjoyed it. I don’t know if there’s a way for you to see prices as you do it like have someone else be able to look it up as you go or if there’s a card recognition program that uses your camera and displays an average price but that’s something that would be cool if you do more of these in the future.
Loved this video! - so much fun to see Seth talk about the random cards. More eBay impulse buys please
I'm glad you like it! If people enjoy it I'll do some more :)
Nice to see that sometimes you'll be lucky. Almost all collection sales I see here in Germany are scams and way above actual value.
I got lucky one time when I bought an almost complete Angel deck for 10 bucks with the cards worth around 100 bucks in total.
Almost everything else wasn't worth the money...
But I just love seeing someone having some luck with their purchase :)
Graaz is a really fun commander to play. You use a fair amount of cheap creatures, or even small tokens (like 0/1 goats from springjack pasture) that are harmless, until you play him. The deck is almost jank, but all of a sudden hits really hard and knocks people out of the game.
I might need to pick up one of those alternate full art versions of him at some point (or I might have one in my collection, just it way too time consuming to sort sometimes)
I'd messed around with searches thinking of maybe making a cheap Graaz deck because it'd be fun. I'd never seen that full art before and it definitely nudged me more in that directions.
love the "Idk, do you think we're gonna get our money back" whilst you're sitting $111 up with 2 packs still to go
What I find so interesting about TCG communities and Magic especially, it’s always about making your money back. How many things in life do we buy that we 100% know we’re getting our money back? Sometimes you just gotta step back and enjoy the cards for what they are and not what they’re worth
Interesting buy for sure with some neat old school cards...love that Urza's Saga box as I have the same one myself.
Honestly, fantastic value with some good playables thrown in. I love Titania's Song and March of The Machines as Against The Odds style cards for Commander. Makes treasure decks squirm. Lol Nice job Seth!
Thanks!
lol what a great deal... going more than doubling your money is absolutely crushing it. very nice. cool cards
do beta lands always have that weird border around the art (more like the whole card before the border)? it almost looks like a weird proxy where the art is just pasted into a blank border template
Ah good times. I still get the itch to buy random collections but sadly don't have the time any more.
*Someone opens a random buy
Tragic: "My people need me."
Hope you're doing well man! Love your videos.
I miss the days of random buys! Nowadays everyone searches everything, charges a small fortune and you only get bulk ...
pay $100 for $164 (techically higher we just didnt count it) worth of cards seems like a good deal to me. This actually might be better than most booster box openings
It's $264 since they counted backward from -$100.
@@IraRadchuk you’re right, even more reason for me to think it was worth the buy
@@lucaugustson9847while poster above you is not technically wrong you're imo more correct. Unless you break even you're still down money even if it's by only a few $$ for example

In a bad market beta basics go for like 12, in a good one 22 or I had a couple mark pool signed islands that were like 60
Looks like a really good collection that you bought.
Northern Paladin is my favorite mtg card because the artist admitted it’s heavily based on Bruce Campbell from Army of Darkness.
Death and Taxes must not be as popular as I thought, because I would have thought those Thalias would have been worth something.
I thought they would be too, but hope. I guess they've been reprinted too much to really have any value (which is a good thing I think).
Thalia looks pretty unplayable in the face of Orcish Bowmasters and Wrenn and Six. Maybe she has more of a chance now that Fury had been banned
I use the art cards to make posters, they look kinda neat and I've had guests ask about them, even ones that dont play magic.
Is $100 the new $20? Its still like $175 for me.
Add a stock wrapp up for collection video. Love this new content
🤑 what an odd assortment of cards
Seriously.
A good mix of stuff. Not too shabby.
Roc of Kher Ridges is RL and the reason why red doesn't get 4 mana 3/3 Flyers with 1 pip in the cost.
Couldn't tell if it was Revised or Unlimited but either way that's at least $5 each
It was revised. It matters a lot which edition it is. Revised is $1 and unlimited is $20.
Personally my favorite use for art cards is just to proxy them in my commander decks for cards I have, just for the art. I have a sol ring that way.
6:21 I play Tivash in my Willowdusk commander deck. He’s so good in it.
So, if there are so many cards that are not worth anything, can I get all of those from people sent to me ? I want to get into MTG and those "worthless" ones that seem to be worth $0 would be great for whatever decks I could create using them. Thank you
I like this content, would love to see a wrap-up
Yeah, I'll try to add a wrap up in the future. A couple of people have mentioned it.
“There’s no way I’m going to win this” is like 90% of my buys from eBay.
I've discovered I really enjoying unboxing MTG videos. Buy some more stuff!
I would have been super pleased with this due to all the white/black cards. Ishan was my bae back in the day!
Anyone got a link to the actual eBay listing? My friends and I used to make these same 'I bought a collection videos" by just using the cards we had accumulated over playing for 20 years. "Look at this Library of Alexandria I just found!" Except, I've actually owned that card since I opened in a pack of Arabian back in '94....
That's pretty impressive, given that it was a card from Arabian Nights, not Legends. :)
@@JohnFiala Haha, I fixed it. I haven't played much Magic in years, but still watch some of this dumb crap on RUclips.
I always enoyed Seth's commentary on Magic online treasure chests at the end of a run. He should just do a series where viewers send in packs of 20-30 cards
Would be cool to see your reaction after tallying up the prices. Just a short clip of what cards surprised you and whatnot.
I was a little surprised when you said you throw out the art cards. I'm more of a casual collector of Magic cards (dabble on MTGA sometimes) and those are my favorites. Shows the different point of view of someone collecting versus players.
This was the best random buy I have seen opened online!
if there is one thing i did with all my packs. i saved each token, the cards with counters on them, all the art cards and all the cards you can write on; plus all the sticker cards that came with unfinity. i got a ton of those things from packs. still in mint condition.
"I've never seen anyone play this car:
Me who just built a deck with home as the commander

9:00 what mana burns isn't a thing anymore??
Love these videos.
2:27 I think the Questing Beast is from The List sadly
That’s a really good collection.
I know people watch these videos to see what if any value you find, but it would be kind of interesting if you did a post unboxing series where you see how many playable decks you can build. It would be really interesting for the ones where you win x pound goodwill auctions since the vast majority of those seem to be non valuable commons and uncommons. On another note while you may not be able to recoup the value of the individual cards I wonder if you could sell the decks you build as precons and recoup a higher overall value because the decks would obviously contain some non valuable cards.
That urza's saga box is worth money
There are people that are interested in the art cards. One of my colleagues at my LGS collects them, for example. I'd put them aside and next time you go to a GP or similar, take them with you and see if anyone wants them. Or possibly trade them in at a booth.
Holy shit what a good guess at the end. Someone knows their mtg finance by heart
I got lucky :)
@@MTGGoldfish Though by 150-175 in value, did you mean from your starting position of down 100? Because it was 250+ in value.
it wasn't. he was off by 100$. Seth expected the value of the entire pack being 150$-175$ but if you look at how the value is shown it starts at -100$ so the final value is at 264$
Righteous war is reserve list and its great!
those beta lands are worth a LOT more than just 8$. Look at listings for NM, then look at photo listings, among the cheapest which is still much higher, theyre beaten up (HP in real standards).
I went by Card Kingdom prices on the basics, but they were out of stock, so many they are undervalued.
If you haven't already traded or sold the Mountain and Plains. I would love to acquire them from you.
watching those ooooold cards in that condition only makes me think of nice proxies........
I'm wondering the likelihood of those beta basics being counterfits. Doesn't super matter to the whole buy but interesting
Not too bad. Decent smattering of rares and hidden gems.
I run Drain Power in my Magus Lucea Kane deck and it's so fun to steal all of my opponent's mana and dump it into a massive X spell.
I still have a playset of ahnk of Mishras that I traded for way back in the day. I've always been that guy lol
"How are we gonna sort these?" I don't know, Blake, how are you gonna sort all your variant cards you pulled out of one pack.
I have no Idea what the artcards are worth. Me personally, I put them in a penny sleeve and use them as an infinity token with a white board marker
12:35 that mountain looks sharpied
Hello. Hi. Yes, hi Seth. I would like a new video please. It's okay if it's not till later - I'd love for you to have a restful Christmas. But know...we'll be here waiting.
"Beta basic lands have some value"
Me, thinking of all my 30yo cards strewn about my family room because I was deck building: 😅
Your clickbait titles are killing me in the best way.
How do you accidentally buy something on ebay hahaha great work Seth you got me
"Thalia Thalia Thalia, god remember when that would have been, "THREE Thalias!!!! BINGO!"
I would watch a season of Storage Wars featuring Seth
I believe you've said you used to but collections and part them out for some extra money back in the day. Seems like your radar is still well-tuned.
I smell a new series
No shot this "random" collection was in an Ebay bid. Link the sold listing?
That Northern Paladin was facing south.
Hey Seth, I was curious why some of the old border cards didnt have a set symbol? Makes me concerned that some of them may not be legit ... Overrall good haul though
Beta didn't have a set symbol!
They didn't need a set symbol for ABU, because there was nothing they needed to distinguish them from. It's kind of like as soon as a movie gets a sequel, it becomes the first movie, but until then, it's just the movie.
The first core sets (Alpha through 5th Edition) didn't have set symbols. They started adding them to expansion sets with Arabian Nights and to core sets with 6th Edition.
@@MTGGoldfishUnboxings thanks for the reply man (and others who responded as well!) Glad the purchase worked out for ya
I read your article from years ago on collection buying and forgot you do this lol.
His old articles would recommend against all these gambler purchases he’s making. This is just for RUclips views and not for making money off collections.
I completely forgot to sub in the first video, so now I’m part of the under 2k club
That was fun thanks
In what world is a beta Gloom 70 bucks?
Bring back mana burn. Try using this as a house rule and be amazed at how much your opponents cannot do math!
Not even here you can escape the snarls
i want a box like this aswell
dude grabs and bends every card with all 10 fingers just to look at them. whole lot is heavy played by now lol
watching you man handled cards drives me up the wall
you just set the 'buy singles' movement back by at least a year
Kormus Bell is incredibly purely for having the rules text 'and so forth'
Hornet canon is an uncommon. But my friend played it back in 98/99 it was a ok mana sink when you had mana burn and not so many other things to sink your mana inn. Could chip in for dmg or use it as a blocker and togheter wit Grawepackt it was a terrible card to play against. We played slow 4 player kitchen magic with 30 life no card draw and jus a little ramp long before I had heard about comander..
He actually came out ahead which is funny. But hey when you come out nearly $150 a head you take those.
Love sleeper agent though the combo I had with it made me stop playing MtG. It was Sleeper Agent / Pariah / Treacherous Link
I thought the counting stopped after +18 since the trading post wasn’t counted, but after all the lands..
aw was hoping to see a post check reaction
I'll add that next time, a few people mentioned wanting a wrap up. Seems like a good idea!

How in fact you know those aint proxys?
