- Are you ready to witness a surprising bike reveal? I didn't think I would ever own this bike. Join me on an unexpected journey as I share the tale of how my beloved KTM 890 met its demise on the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route, only for a new one to rise from its ashes.
After deeming my bike beyond salvage, I made the decision to part ways with it, leading me to Dan North at True North Motos. What followed was nothing short of extraordinary - I acquired a phenomenal new bike through his connection, and now I have meticulously executed a series of much needed modifications.

That is awesome! God puts people in your path for a reason, you're a good man Brock, long live you and the adventures you take. Take care buddy 🇨🇦
Agreed. Thanks! You too!
Brock, truth be told, I started watching your channel because you were riding the 890r. I have a buddy that bleeds KTM orange and he has been after me for a few years to buy into the 790/890 platform. He has had all of the reliability issues, but never the engine destruction, but we have seen SO MANY 790/890 go down due to top end rebuilds. This is primarily due to the Air Filter setup from factory. You have to swap the OEM for the aftermarket or it's pending doom if you are riding off road like the bike was built for.
Congrats on the T7, I chose the Tuareg 660 and couldn't be happier. Hope to see you out on the road.
Having a '21 890 R, I was worried about this issue, but so far I have been unable to find more than a couple people that have had this issue, and so I have to chalk that down to maybe a design that make it a little difficult to get a NEW OEM filter installed, so that it's most likely a problem cause by dealers/riders NOT installing it correctly when replacing it. It is DEFINITELY not a widespread issue. Sucks if anyone has it, but I'm not going to worry about it since I'm not seeing a recall, or even many people having it. I've only got 6k miles on mine (life got in the way of riding it unfortunately), and for now I'm going to trust the factory got the filter on correctly. I plan on getting the Rottweiler intake kit/airbox anyway for a boost in power (have an Arrow de-cat and can), and it should make filter placement easier.
The 660 is amazing bike
I have absolutely nothing against KTM. But on my last ride with my buddies in the mountains of NC and TN, the only mechanical issues were the KTMs. My buds raz me that I don't ride a KTM, but I'll take reliability over raw hp any day. I'm excited to see you on a new ride.
My '21 890 R has been a little quirky, but so far it's always ran fine aside from the OEM weak/undersized battery and the "running on one cylinder at startup issue" which I solved (turn on the key, let the ECU fire up and do it's tests, then snap the throttle fully open and closed at least once, THEN start it). It's never been an issue since I started doing that.
I still love my Ktm bikes. Especially the 500
Heck yeah! As a T7 owner I couldn't be happier than to see my favorite RUclips-Brockster riding the same bike. Let's ride! Wish you the very best on your journeys!
Haha. Yeahhhhh. Excited about this new one
Wow! Great bike the T7 and awesome mods! Adam Riemann (RUclips, ARiemann1, MotologyFilms), Australian rider swears by this bike. From his perspective and experience, says it's the best allround adventure bike to tour the world. Good for you Brock. Safe travels. Hope to cross paths with you this summer in Colorado at the end of July. God bless.👍
Yeah Adam is a legend. I’m watching him to learn a few things.
See ya in July
@@MotoMission. Who makes the headlight guard? I assume it's just a guard that was added, and the stock headlight is just underneath?
Congrats on the new bike!
Keep an eye on your air box especially if you are modifying it.
Do regular dust checks and it is probably a good idea to apply some grease around the sealing lip of the air filter especially if it is an aftermarket unit.
Thanks for the tips! I will keep an eye on it
Romans 8:28
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Praise God. Let's ride....
Yep !
Well Brock , welcome to T7. I'm 2 years 18k miles in.Lots of people will have advice on parts. From me a cheap fix. Cool Cover mess cover for seat. Have on my extra tall Rally seat = allday comfort .Looking forward to new stuff.
Thanks for the tips! Looking forward to it
Congratulations brother! When I saw the title of this video I was hoping it was a T7. I have the same bike, same year and of course blue, I absolutely love it!!! I hope to see you in central Florida sometime, I'd love to ride with you and spend some time with you and your amazing wife!
Would love to cross paths. The blue bikes would like to spend time w each other too. :)
Congratulations on the T7! Glad you found the T7 and are enjoying it's engine's tractability (no more flame outs at the bottom of the power curve like your 890), its sound, and dependability! I bled orange for years (690, 1190, 790, & 890) until finally switching to a T7 from my '23 890R this year. Couldn't be happier now. And unlike the 890, if you want/need to bypass the kickstand kill switch, you just cut the wire to the switch and wire the 2 wires together. No dongle needed.
I've never had a flameout on my '21 890 R, and Birchy doesn't seem to have an issue, but ok...
The first 25k miles were bliss. The air filter failed me. Hoping the blue one is better to me
Congratulations on the new bike -- looks fantastic! As others have noted, you're in good company with notable, respected riders around the world -- Adam R, Pavlin, Dave and Clubby, Meerkat, etc -- who show how capable, reliable and flexible this platform is (as long as you're tall enough to manage it). Looking forward to your further adventures.
Also Wild Goat Adventures
I’m a big boy and it feels great to me. I’m gonna let my short friends ride it and give feedback for us
Have a blast with your new T7. And if you ever make it up to Fairbanks, AK, feel free to reach out.
Next year perhaps.
Heck yeah man! 🤘🏼
I do t have anything with a plate, but if you’re hitting some singletrack in Colorado, give me a shout
Ok. Coming in July. Send me contact
New bike looks badass!! Only downside of T7 in my opinion is tubed tires, no cruise control and the smaller gas tank. But theres no doubt they're a great bike for the value
I agree. Those are issues I am working on.
Bruh, fun video as always. I can not WAIT to do the Holy Smokies with you next month!! Brent
Can't wait! Gonna be great !
I just discovered your channel, I'm a local to a ride you are having next month...bummed to see it is full. If a spot opened up I'd love to be on board. As a fellow man of faith and and adv rider it's something id love to be a part of.
Send me a message. Will keep eye on it
You should come and at least let me buy you a cappuccino. Send me a message
Four years on and I still love my T7....I'm sure that blue beauty will serve you well! Congrats, and ride safe!
That's the plan! Thanks. Let’s ride
I love it!! Great bike, great graphics!! Congratulations!!!
Thanks a lot! I’m happy
Congrats on the bike brother! My only bike so far is a Harley, but my electric bass is a Yamaha. Sometimes I ride my Harley with the Yamaha on my back. Cracks me up. If your bike runs as well as my bass plays, you'll have a grin every single time you ride. Come to Boston man! My wife and I would love to meet you and yours! God bless
Haha. That’s awesome.
Glad to see you back in the saddle. The T7 will serve you well.
I believe it’s gonna be great
Blue has always been good to me. Enjoy !
Me too
One of these days, I'm gonna have to dump my KLR and get me one of those. Yours looks great! Love the graphics.
SSI decals is the best. Go see them
So cool, glad to see the new bike. I think for every adventure you do you should test out a new bike. It would really add to the channel. I bet the KTM cams failed on the 890. I've been hearing a few horror stories where the cams are not hardened properly and they basically grind the lobes off. The same people say KTM won't honor any warranty work unless KTM did all the maintenance, oil changes and such. I could be wrong about this but I've heard a few stories. I've also heard stories of Tenere's running 200k+ miles with little more than normal maintenance. I doubt even you can kill this one. lol
Good idea! Good feedback for me to consider.
I may add new bikes in more often.
Good to see you got a great bike and got to help someone out in the process. I think you’ll be happy with it. Ride on brother!
I hope so too
I’ve been going back-and-forth between the T7 and 890 for a year. I love that 890, but the exact problem you’ve had is what makes me want to T7 more.
Have fun on your new bike!
Both good choices.
Holy BROC AND CHEESE ! Bikes have come a long way since my youth . This unit is impressive .
A common misconception today is a fuel injected bike needs no warm up . In doing so the cams get prematurely worn due to lack of lubrication .
I've dealt with many insults over the years regarding things that i became capable of doing that most people cannot or will not do . Having said that and only seeing a small percentage of your videos i am absolutely amazed at the things ive seen you do .
You strive for perfection yet are not a profectionist . Wabi sabi is acceptable to you yet not what you want to deliver to your audience .
Gotta give you props for that .
I really have no idea how you do the things that you do yet i pray that you do them eternally .
Good luck with the new whip and thanks for sharing .
Live And Let Ride
Very cool to read this comment. Big thanks.
Nice to see that you got a new motorcycle. Keep your videos coming it's very enjoyable I look forward to getting a motorcycle soon. See you on the trail.
I’m gonna keep making videos. Not stopping. Hope to inspire people to ride and adventure
Hey nice new bike so glad for you my friend. Gr8 joice for a light weight bike. Have to sort the suspension and then your sorted. Let m3 know how you get on with the T7. Save travels
First ride vid is coming up Sunday
Heck Yeah Congrats on the T-7 Bro. Good luck wearing that one out.
Yeah. Full adventure !
Enjoy your new bike! Look forward to more of your adventures 🏍️🙌
More to come!
Great Upgrade plus reliability at a reasonable price. Speaking from some one who has both in thier garage.
Yeah. Pros and cons. I’m loving them all the way tho
Congrats on the new bike ! I have an 890 Rally Edition. My buddy has a T7 . We swap bikes back and forth. You did change all the things I don’t like about his bike . The T 7 is a great base . Super smooth engine with great sound . Enjoy & stay safe !
That rally is epic. I may have some things to say about the rally in the near future.
Give me any of your thoughts. I love data. Email me if you have time
Great bike! I have one too and love it. I hope to have a chance to ride with you someday.
Hey thanks. Check my dates on motomission.com
Let’s ride
Yesssss I’m all about team blue!!!! Great to hear about the choice. I like any bike that any one rides but always was Leary of Ktm reliability and also I’m not one to really like to wrench on a bike. Awesome you got blessed but individuals as yourself I can see the fruits produced in your life because of how you live it. Truly an example if walking the walk because I can see it. Enjoy!! Praise God!! Keep the rubber side down!!
Yeah I still love the Ktm. I have great memories. Will see how this blue bike does for a while
Congrats. Great bike and can’t beat Yamaha reliability. Long Haul Paul has been on one of these for a couple years now and has put a ton of miles on.
I’ve seen that. He doesn’t even change the oil :)
Congratulations. A fabulous bike. Isn’t it funny how the stars all align sometimes? Happy for ya. 🎉
Pretty awesome moment for sure
Dude, this is so awesome!!! So happy for you man, great pick. My brother should be picking up a T7 this week, he's finally trading in his old Africa Twin! He is stoked.
I currently got a Husky 901 and I know you rode the hell out of your 890, what was the mileage you got it to before it died? I'm at 37k and i'll do the valves at 40k which will be here before I know it.
25k miles were amazing. The last mile tho…. Haha
Man! T7 are great bikes! Congrats! Enjoy the ride! Looking forward to watch your new videos with the Tenere! Always great content!
Thanks a ton!
Man, now you can ride for real.
that is s bike you can trust!! Congratulations.🤘👍🏻🤘👍🏻
LOL Ok, I guess "Birchy" doesn't ride "for real" then....🤣🤣🤣
@@kx8960
Well, first of all: it was not ment to be a provocative comment.
I simply just think the T7 is a better bike and more reliable. Ktm has tons of issues with their bikes, witch we all know.?!
Yamaha is rock solid.
But you go ahead and ride whatever you want, I really don't care.👍🏻😁
@@closure7747 LOL "Tons of issues"...interesting, because I've only had a minor one. But hey, you actually OWN one and KNOW firsthand, RIGHT?
@@kx8960
Yes, I've own both the 890 and the 790. My brother is a KTM mechanic at marin och fritid, here in Sweden.
In a city called, Örebro, to be precise.
But it's pointless to discuss this. You are obviously a KTM fanboy, and don't know the problems that they have.
Let's just be on our separate paths and enjoy life.
Haha
some of the best storytelling you've ever done! loved this whole video bro!
Glad you enjoyed it! Call ya soon
Great bike! I own one too. With the high fender you will find in muddy conditions the radiator will pack up with mud and over heat the bike, just watch out for that. Let’s Ride!
Oh really? I need to look at that
Man I have been watching all these videos, thinking,my brother needs a Tenere 700 (like my own). Lo and behold he got him one. That’s awesome. Sick buildout too!
He gonna like
Really hoping you were going for another KTM 890r but you and the Yamaha will be happy together looking forward to new adventures from you
Well. Keep watching. I may surprise you
Are you guys ever going to make it up to Minnesota? Stillwater has some very beautiful scenery to Ride Along!!! I have a blue 2023 Triumph Tiger 660 sport... if you don't get too crazy on the curves I could probably keep up
Next year. June I think. Let’s ride
Wow love the graphics! Great new bike! 👍🏼
Thank you 👍
If you make it to Alabama We live right off the SEAT (South east adventure trail) ...and some other good rides in the area
I need more details. Sounds interesting.
What , you look like a new rider . Welcome to the very large T700 family 😅
Yep. Brand new And loving it
I’m excited about this bike. I think this is my next one.
Good idea
Dude, that is a smoking bike. Happy for you. Can’t go wrong with Yamaha. KTM is always a big ass question Mark when it comes to reliability. Anybody will tell you that. Again happy for you. Keep rocking, be safe out there and enjoy life to the fullest.
Happy so far. Hope I don’t blow it up.
The only way you’re gonna blow that bike up is by red lining the snot out of it. Or keeping very poor maintenance on it. PS looking forward to your adventures On that bike.
That’s so good to know. Thanks
Oh she looks good!! Congrats Brockster!!!
Yeahhhhh
Congratulations! 🏍
Congrats on the new bike, I'm sure you will love it as much as I do mine! Did you see that Camel ADV has a folding tip for the rear brake pedal now?
I saw that. I may try it at some point
Congrats on the new ride ... Ride On!
Thanks!
Awesome Brock! I've said it before, I think your channel gives me the biggest smile of any. Would be awesome to run into you one day, though I'm a four wheel overlander, not two. 😊
I'm in the northeast, but make an annual overlanding trip west every year, with a stay over at Overland Expo Mountain West in CO. I'd bet a lot of us would enjoy seeing you there.
❤❤
Maybe one day! I am planning a ride in NE in a few months.
That Texaco station in this video is right across from my jobsite!! You can actually see my equipment at one point. So sad that I didn't get to meet you
In columbia ? I’m there often
@MotoMission. yes sir!
Congratulations on the bike Brother. That’s a sweet ride.
Thanks 👍
Great choice on the bike. I love my T7.
No issues ?
@@MotoMission. zero issues, but it's still fairly new with only around 700 miles. The biggest reason I ended up going with the T7 is their reputation for reliability.
I’m with ya there
What an upgrade from ktm to Yamaha. As a Yamaha owner I approve 😂 the graphics look awesome.
Big thanks. I like so far
Congratulations on the T7. My previous bike was a tuned FZ07 with a Yoshimura exhaust. Great bike, amazing engine!
Very cool!
the best bike is the bike you enjoy! I've heard so many people complain about the suspension and power. I do have some mods like airbox modifications, foam filter, full(catless) exhaust and tune and then for suspension upgraded springs which will eventually be full suspension when i do a tear down of the suspension for maintenance. Very enjoyable bike. I would love KTM's but from people I have met and know, they are either working on them or have sold them for more reliable bikes lol great performance but too many failures out on the trail
Can’t beat them for performance. But the t7 is now ready to rip
After all the work on that T7 it's a pretty nice bike. Wouldn't take a stock one over the 701, but dang. Looks good.
Thanks. Loving it
Fascinating to see you get rid of that “Orange Hodaka.” I look forward to see your upcoming videos featuring that “Blue Ox.” I will make my decision to buy one after a year of your videos on it! Or just deck out my 650L .
Let’s Ride!
Lemme know what you do.
Don’t over think it. Just go have fun
Looks awesome. Lets Ride!
Can't wait!
Sweet ride!!
Thanks!
Nice!! Super excited for you!!
Thank you!!
I LOVE my T7!! Have fun you’re going to love it. Yamaha Revs your Heart!
Indeed it does
Congratulations on the new T7. it looks awesome!
Thanks! Stoked
Yeah buddy... T7, same bike I have. Let's Ride !!!
Right on! Let’s ride
Congrats!
🏍️💨
Glad to see you join the BLU CRU. Go Yamaha!
Awesome video!!!
Man that bike is absolutely beautiful!!
You look really excited and I'm really happy for you.
Have you named it???
No name. Maybe the fans should name it for me
welcome to the t7 fam! i think u will enjoy it!
Hope so! So good so far
Dude! I just got a blue Tenere last week. Can't wait to see your new adventures. P.S. Pour one out for the 890.
Great news ! Yeah I poured out a big one for the 890. Haha
Congrats on the new bike.
Got a lot of blink on that thing. Don't cry. I will you put it in the dirt? It'll be one sad day. Good luck to your brother. Will see you in Colorado. Take care piece out
I’m gonna get it dirty and muddy as possible !
Right on man. That's what they're made for I got a new DR650 in January. It's going down a few times pick it up just it off and get going again. Message new forever. Alright, keep up the good work and I'll see you this summer. Gonna be a great 1 piece you suck.
Sorry, man. I don't know where that last comment came from. I meant to say peace out.
I use voice tech boys stick. Sometimes they don't always come out right. Have a great day.
You won't regret the switch. 60,000 miles on mine and still haven't broken anything.
Really?
I heard in Facebook you are switching to Ktm
I would hope you’ll keep it after putting that dorky graphics kit on. 🤣 Just kidding man, it’s beautiful! Glad everything worked out and you’re on a new steed. Look forward to seeing many more videos of it. Take care and much ❤️
The graphics make it go faster
whoa! thats one heck of a good looking bike sir!!! congrats!
Thanks! Excited
What a great story Brock, was it really going to cost 11 grand to fix the 890? What are you doing with it? Parts? Absolutely love the graphics on the t7. Beautiful bike congratulations
Parts were 11k. I sold the bike for parts to Dan for peanuts.
Tragic.
The blue bike should serve me well
Uni prefilter on intake snorkel under fuel tank an absolute must for you given past circumstance!!
Ok. Will be looking into this
Great looking bike, and SSI Decals make this bike look great. You can’t go wrong with any of the Japanese big three, but Yamaha in particular.
Ride safe and if you ever make into SE Texas give a shout out…… I will take you to lunch!
God Bless you and yours!
Right on!
Congratulations! Cool how it worked out. Cheers
Thanks 👍 excited
The starting issue sounds like the starter clutch issue I had with my yamaha
you're new bike is bad ass bro you gotta keep it!!! i would love to ride with you but i'm in PA
I’m coming to Pa soon. Holler
Congrats bro, great video and I’m so glad to see you rocking the Yamaha.
More to come!
Thanks
Congrats on the new bike; I'm all about signs, process, non-coincidences... the bike chose you...
Exactly!
Love the channel and the adventures. My wife and I would like to get into the adventure bikes, but so many different things to consider. Any suggestions on a new rider and what bike would be a good option?
I’m assuming you are looking for a first bike for each of you.
Hard to say exactly because each person has preferences. Also height is a consideration
But. A good learning bike would be Yamaha xt250 for her.
Also Honda crf250l
Lemme know if you have questions
Lots of good options
Where do you live ?
Nice. I would have already bought one too. But having a bad back(telephone pole at 75mph) I can not pick up heavy bikes. And everyone says the 1250GS is even why easier to pick up. I can barely pick up my loaded DRZ400. So its the only reason I sayed with the DRZ
Good choice
My son has the T7, great bike !
Enjoy !
Yesss. Good one
Congrats on the T7 bud, it looks awesome. I know exactly how you feel. Once I got the suspension and tires sorted out on my T7, my '23 KTM 1290 SA-R is just sitting in the corner giving me dirty looks. It's sad that the only reasons I am keeping it is 1: it's paid for and B: It's just awesome to look at. I know that's subjective but, I really think it's an awesome looking bike.
Haha. Send that 1290 to my house. I have big plans for that.
@@MotoMission. 🤣Hey for the right price I will deliver it myself. As tempting as it is to sell, I still love that bike and haven't ridden it in almost a month now.
The right price. Hmmmmmm
Ok so I am kinda serious about possibly getting one of those for next year. Planning a big project. So it’s on the radar
@@MotoMission. hey I took this thing on the UTBDR last year, ridden single track on it and let’s just say, only ones skill is the limiting factor. It’s truly a great bike. But you already know that KTM makes great off road bikes.
I’m here and IG, if it sits long enough it has to go. But I really do love this bike
I didn’t realize (duh) that I’ve seen this bike when we went camp/riding with the Americano guys in Nashville. I’m ready to go riding again. Did you film anything on that trip?
That was me ! Didn’t film that weekend.
Yes! Good choice! Hit me up you're ever beer Albuquerque, NM
My fav pizza place it in alb
What kind of air filter did you upgrade to? Hoping it’ll be better that that paper one server in the discovery tour! New bike looks amazing!!
I don’t use paper anymore. Only foam oiled filters. But I’m learning more about it
Looking at funnel web filters
Had the exact same thing happened to my 890 18,000 miles.
Took them over four months to get the parts to rebuild the top end. Turned out it needed more work than that.
Absolutely broke my heart .
No more KTM for me.
Tragic
Blessed bro!
You won’t beat the reliability of the CP2 engine. Congrats!
I hear good things
Running the WYBDR-X on 26 June. If you're in the area, you're welcome to join us.
Next time take me
you will love having the peace of mind knowing how reliable the japanese bikes are over the Euro bikes
I hope you are right
The bike is sweet if you were ever up in Oregon again, would like to take a ride with you
Perhaps next year.
@@MotoMission. This summer, I’m gonna do an cross-country ride. I want to see Tennessee and maybe if you’re around we might hook up and grab something to eat and talk more.
Awesome
Bike looks sweet man!
