    I am so very sorry to hear about the 890. The people you have met along your journey, give me hope that people still have love in their hearts.
    While my adventures, currently do not allow me to journey very far from home. I am learning to open up to others and have made so many new friends.
    As you stated, the best bike is the bike you are riding! You could be riding a 50cc bike and i would still enjoy watching you and Auny on your adventures.

    Please consider posting a forensics video with as much detail as possible about what caused your problem. My number one question: Was the filter and airbox untouched since new, meaning KTM assembled it at the factory and 25,000 miles later the filter system is essentially failed? I purchased a new 1290 Super Adventure and would like to know if your problem is endemic to a generation of KTMs or specific airboxes. Keep the great videos coming, including the all-important scripture messages.

      Generally when riding long distances in dirt and dust you should clean the air filter fairly often. This is why most people ditch the paper filter and use a uni filter as it is washable and reusable. It does require filter oil but it’s far better than paper and exponentially better than sand and dirt in the engine.

    • @MotoMission.
      @MotoMission.  3 месяца назад +2

      I kept my air filter clean. Always had extras. So it a bit more of a mystery to be honest.

      I may need to post a video. I will try to show something. But a quick answer to your question.
      Filter box was stock. But Ktm replaced it at 8k miles because it had a stripped screw.
      I changed filters often.
      Hard to understand exactly how dirt got past it. We suspect something wasn’t sealed properly

      @@MotoMission. 890 has a known flaw where the two plastic pieces holding the filter will warp. Most people stick a small strip of foam between the top of them and it takes up the slack. I honestly have never heard of it failing this spectacularly though.

    When i worked at a bicycle shop the most common question was ,....what is the best bike ?
    The owners answer was ford or chevy , it's personal preference .
    My answer was it's the one that gets ridden .
    I rode a 70s model Honda mr 125 out in the Mojave . The suspension was lacking in comparison to many other bikes i rode when i lived there yet my memories of that 125 are permanently etched in my brain . The finese required to ride that bike demanded all of my attention .

      @@MotoMission. Yeah, I'm going to have it looked at and hopefully the original OEM filter did it's job. It's a fallacy that "paper air filters don't work", if they're designed properly they work great. My 14 yr-old RAV4 has 210k miles on OEM air filters and there's never been an issue and it hasn't sucked any dust/dirt and I've driven in some MAJOR duststorms. Maybe it's time though for that Rottweiler performance intake and filter system. Since I'm sure that wasn't the original filter, who changed it last? Maybe it wasn't seated properly? I always grease the sealing surfaces with thick bearing grease. Damn, so sorry to hear that Bro, best of luck either with a new engine or new 890 R!

    KTM seems to struggle with airbox issues especially on their newer models.
    I use grease on the edge of the filter to get a good seal and have been running the stock paper filters for about 8000 miles now and the airbox is clean.
    Normally the paper filter does the best job keeping dust out but their weak parts are loading and water.
    Once they get loaded up they don’t draw as much air as say a foam filter with oil. The nice thing with foam filters is they build a layer of dirt on them that the oil soaks into and it become like another layer of filtration and will keep running longer.
    Ran paper filters in my Stroms for about 90,000 miles and never had an issue with dust getting by them. But they were a pain to change because you had to undo a bunch of bolts to remove the cover which required you to remove the fuel tank to gain access. I has always skeptical of how the air filter was installed on my 890 - didn’t seem to give you a positive seal around the filter like a bolt on cover would.

    Man hope you get your bike fixed and can continue. If they can't fix the bike my vote is for a Yamaha T-7 as its close to the KTM and bullet proof reliable. From Washington here and sad to tell you that you missed the true baby head hill. It is on Umtanum Ridge, and you have to turn off the paved road at Durr Road just about 5 miles out of Ellensburg to get to it. When you met the guy at the Elk feeding station gate, the baby head hill is on the ridge to your back in between there and Ellensburg. Looks like you may have taken the bypass route. You didn't miss much though as Clemon Mountain is way worse for baby head sized rocks then Umtanium Ridge. Hope you get back this way someday and have the chance to find it next time.

    Brock, I love your channel and also know that you've been in a new bike for a while. But us, KTM riders need more info in the diagnostics. You brought the 890 to shop in order to resolve the "morning start issues" caused by the bad gas ONLY . You never once said the bike had issues after got it running. NOW , out of the blue, the engine is trashed , because of the air filter. I ride my bikes on dirt roads and clean my air filters every 2 days ... did you? How in this world a BAD ENGINE be running all day with no issues other than BAD START FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. I only have about 45 yrs working on bikes and never heard of it. But definitely, a little more explanation would bring more credibility to the case. Love you guys!

    • @MotoMission.
      @MotoMission.  3 месяца назад +1

      Hey. Yes this is a wild situation. Everything is as you described. Nothing was left out of the story.
      Cold starts were terrible. It started at the same time I got the bad fuel and had the tank and lines drained a couple times. After that it never started well in mornings.
      I always keep good fresh air filters. I had just changed this one a day or two before the bikes began acting funny.
      It ran great all day. But cold starts continued to be a thing. I bought a fuel pump and took to dealership to install. They listened to engine and said that it didn’t sound good.
      The next day I got the news you saw in video. $11k in parts alone. So I opted to sell the bike for parts.
      I wish I had better news. Lemme know if you have more questions.

    • @ParklandTKD

      @@MotoMission. I think the bigger bikes require more skill off-road. Its not just the ability to pick it up but the ability to navigate difficult terrain. The deep ruts you navigated in your episode today were no big deal on a 450 but on a fully loaded 890 or GS? Lots of decisions would need to be made. Yes the smaller bikes have an easier time in rough ie mud, conditions but thats no fun and as a content creator its boring. Example, section 3-4 of the WYBDR is impossible if wet according to BDR. So s big bike has to make decisions ie drama. A little bike you just drag to the side and wait. The bigger bikes have bigger gas tanks so can go farther and carry more and deeper into the back country. From a rider standpoint its much more of an adventure on a 890 and up bike and from a content creator standpoint your “canvas” would be broader. Loved the drone shots on the cliffs btw. Totally epic

    Yeah the location and design of the KTM 790 / 890 Adventure / R air filter system is bad choice. Sucks all the dust spinning around the rear wheel and into snorkel. In general for dusty conditions an oiled foam filter works best. But, you also should consider adding a Rottweiler Performance, Power Plate ( pre filter ) in front of he OEM filer. This ensures clean air going into the OEM filter location. Always make sure your oiled foam filter is moist / tacky. Carry a spare foam filter ( pre oiled ). More on topic on ADV Rider forum. Good luck with bike. Keep us posted.
