I can't remember the last time I watched a complete video on RUclips, without skipping some parts, well done my friend. Congratulations, you caught my attention.
You made the right choice! Still, twenty years on, its a difficult bike to beat. I still have my original 950 that has over 225,000 kms on it, and another for when the current one wears out... although it looks as if it'll go forever! Greetings from Jūrmala!
@@rockfeller22056The original 950 engine was drinking oil (not too much, but it did mean having to carry some to top-up during long journeys), so I installed a 990 engine with carburation adjusted to match. This engine has 135k km on it.
It's been a long time since I last got a YT recommendation which actually got me interested. Shots, color grading, storytelling, pace of the video: it's all perfect. I agree with your philosophy, I personally got a '91 Africa Twin RD04 with the same goal of riding anywhere, analogically. Deserved a subscription and will follow along the channel, cheers from Italy man!
KTM blew it when they didn't support Ewan and Charley for LWR. BMW took a risk and won in a massive way as sales figures show. I respect you for using the hard luggage but would, personally, go with soft panniers. Well-done, sir. And anyone who incorporates Vivaldi's Primavera for his music is a man of fine culture.
Been thinking about picking up a 990 Adventure once I am able to. Solid video overall, nicely done! Really making me look forward to being healed up and riding again.
I've seen a lot of video and photography of motorcycles and the like But this work really really amazed me. It made me log in to RUclips and put a like and a comment. I also agree that bicycles nowadays are plastic and a lot of electronics and we miss the beautiful past and the memories it contains that cannot be forgotten. I am happy that I saw your adventures in the years 2005-2006. I hope your new adventure is full of excitement and fun
Thank you to all the people involved in making this, I love the 950/990 look and design and plan on buying one soon. Your commitment to keeping the heritage of the bike really says a lot too, and you did a fantastic job of making it anew of sorts with a really slick look...now you've go me thinking about my dream bike 😉
Impossible to buy a new adv bike indeed (I've tried 😁)... Now, let's not forget that the 950 adventure was a racing machine costing close to 15.000 € in 2003. But the money was in the lightness and the quality of the components, not the gadgets.
Hahahaha this was so well made my friend 🙌🏻 The amount of details, great footage and narrative 🤩 Nice to see Janis again as well. Really well done! 🎥Thank you for this
Great story about a great bike! My old "Dicke Berta", a BMW F800GS from 2008, i would to change into an younger one from 2014. I 've bought the "younger one", but the old one I can't sell after 45000 km of travelling, riding, and "partnership". To much memorys.
A very beautiful and meaning video. I did not skip a second of it. A million times better than the US once where the completely destroy such kept time capsules.
I agree completely about enjoying the lack of electronics. The only caveat is I will say I love front abs. Obviously it can't be too aggressive on an off-road bike. But it has 100% saved my ass before. The ideal is to just never fuck up and lock up the front wheel, sure. But in the real world people make mistakes in the course of tens of thousands of miles... That's one feature that I just really appreciate about modern motorcycles.
That is one fantastic looking conversion. Love the graphics. I would get rid of the big square paniers though. They don't look the part, and more inportantly they are a hazard when offroading. Get some descent soft paniers instead
My first offroad bike was a 2007 990adv, I was de 6th owner (yeah creazy 75.000km), I learned how to ride offroad with that bike and I can say that bike really was a companion, only left stranded once (battery, bad rectifier) my first big trips was with her, I had her for a year and put almost 30.000kms. but I had to sell it, almost no spare parts for that model on my country and parts from overseas was months in waiting time, thanks god I know how to fix bikes because the first time I had her in my garage, she was in bad shape. Now i'm t7 gang :D
Great video! Got me looking for a 950 now :) Can you tell me a bit more about the "low quality fuel ignition system switch" mentioned at 7:08? Is that like a physical toggle to adjust ignition? Never seen that before so would love to learn more!
Thanks! As I understand it’s basically just a physical switch that changes the fueling that’all. Not sure it’s needed anymore, 20 years have passed after all. Fill find out soon, since we’re going on new 901s to Africa soon and filling up from bottles there.
Honestly, I don't know what's the difference between oils and find those discussions as meaningful as those about tires. If it's lubricating, it's working. The bike rides good.
I have my dream bike, a black 2006 KTM adventurer I bought new with panners and a top case plus tank bag and more options with only 2800 actual miles. Due to a truck accident it’s been resting in my garage waiting for the day I can make myself believe I can’t ride it again. That day has come now. If anyone is interested and make a decent offer it is for sale now.
@2003evodave Good Evening. I read your comment about selling your bike. My name is Mike. Im looking for a new bike. I'm interested in talking to you and seeing if your bike is a good fit for me. Please let me know if you are going to sell it. Thank you!
I have a 2017 KTM 1090R that I love, but like you, do not like all the electronics on the new KTM 790/890/1290 bikes, and would never buy one. At this point I am interested in a KTM 950 SE. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Totally disagree with your arguments from the beginning of the movie. This days there are so many awesome, new mid weight adv bikes to choose from... KTM 950/990 was a badass back then but claiming that it is 'the choise' now is such an exaggeration. PS. The video is top notch! 💪🏽
Those arguments (if they even can be called that) are the thoughts of the new owner, not some universal wisdom. It’s a personal piece and motorcycles are all about personal choices. I myself ride a T7 which suits my needs the best.
"Become such bad riders we need babysitting?" Funny because I call the new "Rider aides" nannies. Current generation ABS is a good safety tool on pavement for new riders. Traction control let's you ride a 100+ horse power machine without going through rear tires from spinning said wheel. Pluses and minuses for all the rider aides. My biggest fear is new riders not learning the skills to safely operate those levers without the "nannies" to save themselves. "But I had the traction control on????". Now explain that TC only helps with traction when the throttle is applied. It's not that the few/new riders have become bad riders it's more they never became good riders on their own.
