    I am a beginner (just taught myself during COVID) and I so appreciate how each stitch you slowly showed how to do the stitch and also repeated what that stitch is called. Like I finally understand the single crochet decrease stitch and I think I will also remember this stitch name and how to do it too. As a beginner is sometimes difficult to know where in the stitch to place your hook and every time you carefully explained this. I made this towel and mine came out gift quality. Thank you for such a good instructional video.

    Hello! Thank you for videoing your method of making towel toppers. I have done the sewing method, I always felt that it would come undone, it never did, but I always had that doubt. My husband has one of those pointed tools, he said I could use it. Yay for a husband who has LOTS and LOTS of tools! Lol
    For those that are tight crocheters, loosen your tension on the first row here or you won't be able to get your larger hook through. 😁 Happy hooking everyone!

      @@AlaskaCraftyGalVictoria It is the clearest tutorial I've seen. Question. When you've decreased it down to 7 stitches, is it possible instead to have 9 stitches for the handle. I find 7 stitches makes it too thin.. Also finding 1" buttons was hard. The closest I found was 1 1/8th buttons. So for the button hole, I'd need to chain 3 instead of 2...would that work for bigger buttons?

    • @AlaskaCraftyGalVictoria
      @AlaskaCraftyGalVictoria  2 года назад +1

      @@abi2270
      If course! Just stop decreasing when you have 9 stitches across…. And yes…. I would chain 3 for larger buttons… 👍🏻 That is the wonderful thing about crocheting….. you can adjust patterns to your liking. ❤️👍🏻

    I like this method best, with the single crochets because it is tighter and gives a more substantial base for the towel to hang from. Looks nice too. Thanks for going through all the steps - it helps to see the weaving in of the ends, the buttonhole, and sewing on the button.

    I love this towel topper. I've done a few different ones but this is my favorite right now. I'm going to have to write down the pattern so it is a little quicker for me each time. I also chose to do a mattress stitch on the towel instead of poking holes. I think I did them about a quarter inch apart which makes the 43 stitches needed. Anyway, thanks so much!

    Very nice! Thanks! I like a few things about this. 1. I like that you did them with single crochet. So many others I’ve seen were done with double crochet. Yours looks nicer, IMO. 2. I like that you spaced your foundation stitches close together. 3. Thanks for telling us where you got the towels! One important point about the awl (I own one, too) that beginners should be aware of… they’re very sharp! Keep away from children!

      Thank you so much! 🤗👍🏻 I think so too! I appreciate you letting me know that you are going to try it! 💞 I make all my towels this way and sometimes I cut them in half and sew the cut edge so I get 2 towels out of 1. I also sometimes use cotton yarn too. 👍🏻 Just a little side note: If you use cotton yarn, just do more single crochet rows in the beginning so the topper is a bit longer. 😜🤗 Have fun! ~ Happy Crocheting🧶

    Absolutely fabulous tutorial!! I'm so glad I found you today. I need to make a lot of these up for gifts for family and friends. And I must say, I'm so very glad I didn't find you right before Christmas. I'd have been hard pressed...not getting any sleep...trying to make them up for Christmas gifts!! Lol. Such a beautifully finished towel when done. I watched lots of videos on how to do this and yours is the very best. I will admit...I'll be cutting my towels in half. I will be using some inexpensive ones...but also, some designer ones. I have 4 married kids, 11 grandkids (5 who are married) and then sisters and friends I plan to make them for. One granddaughter is a huge Pioneer Woman fan...as I am. Walmart has some lovely towels in her design. So I'll def be making some up with her designs for this one granddaughter! Cutting in half will stretch the budget. I am subscribing to your channel. Again...so happy I found you!! Oh...and I might add...in order to crochet these projects, I've typed out the instructions. I cannot crochet them in front of my PC. I'll be doing this while watching a movie or two with my husband. And I'm quite certain that after making a few...I'll no longer need written instructions!

      Wow 😮Thank you so very much for the lovely compliments! ❤️🤗 I am so happy that this tutorial has helped you! This is the pattern and the way my momma taught me and I have done it this way since I first began to crochet 🧶 Boy oh Boy are you going to be busy 😜 sometimes I cut my towels in half as well. I’d like them both ways! Nothing wrong with stretching the budget especially when you have such a large wonderful family! I appreciate you watching and commenting and subscribing to my channel! Very much appreciated and welcome 🤗❤️🙋🏻‍♀️

      Does the Dollar tree hand towels work? Cause they have some nice hand towels.. so r u saying every 3rd to decrease when u r going down the row?

    • @AlaskaCraftyGalVictoria
      @AlaskaCraftyGalVictoria  4 года назад

      SweatPea D
      Yes, dollar tree towels work fine! I just don’t have a dollar tree in my town. And yes... on the decrease rows you would do a single crochet in first stitch, a single crochet in 2nd stitch, then a decrease ( single crochet 2 together) into 3rd & 4th stitch.

      I appreciate you so very much for returning! 🌼 I have attempted to write pattern out on several occasions, but because each towel size is a bit different that I crochet sometimes I create more foundation stitches which throws off the count. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe "someday" I will get it put into a PDF 😜

    I have never been very good at crochet, no matter how hard I try. I had made a set of these in the past and they turned out ok but the process was grueling so I gave up. Yesterday and today I watched your video as I am braving up to try again. Your video is great. You are clear, and the pace is pretty good. Yes, I rewound a lot to rewatch the stitching, but I got through the whole thing and just finished a towel in a day. Thank you for posting these straightforward instructions. I will start the matching towel now. Look forward to trying other videos of yours once I am done this set. Best regards from your Ontario Canada neighbour 😉

      Perfect! 👍🏻 Yes, I received my awl from my hubbies toolbox too!😜 I went to Hobby Lobby and bought one that has a more ergonomic handle on it. My other one was thin and started hurting my hand after a bit. ( I make loads of towels) 😜 I found one in the leather working craft area and it's called a "scratch-awl" I only paid $2.99 for it. 👍🏻
