    How does an airline get the authority to regulate the visa status of a person entering a country? I have seen dozens of videos showing the way to get around this but I cannot find any information on how/why airlines are enforcing this? My suspicion is they are just trying to sell tickets.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  8 месяцев назад

      It's a good question. My guess is that they probably have agreement terms with the airports that require them to check for visa status before boarding the plane. I'm thinking that the airports don't want to have travelers stuck, especially if they cannot afford to fly back due to a visa issue.

    When I flew from Barbados to St Vincent, they asked when I checked in for a ticket out of St Vincent. I had no ticket so I had to book one at the airport for $ 76 USD. Even though I had a flight booked home from Florida. I am from Sweden. But when I landed at St Vincent, they never asked for a ticket. I never got a refund. I traveled by boat from St Vincent down to Grenada

    Hi,
    I'm flying to thailand on the 1st november. I wish to extend my visa on arrival and I have booked an onward flight dated at the end of my Visa extension on the 27th December. Will this be valid when asked for proof of onward travel or will I have to buy another ticket which is dated before the first 30 day period(VOA) is up?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  5 лет назад +3

      It's a good question. I think it should be ok, but you might be at the discretion of the immigration official at the airport. If you're starting your trip in Thailand, it might be worth seeing if you can get a 60-day tourist visa from the embassy in your home country prior to your trip (instead of getting a visa-on-arrival). Otherwise, if you really want to play it safe, it might be worth "renting" an onward ticket.

    That is interesting! We had that problem when we went to Vanuatu from New Zealand for a few days back in 2015... Vanuatu officials wanted to see that I had an outward flight out of New Zealand before I was allowed to board the plane back to New Zealand!!! Lucky I found my return ticket on my iPhone.

    Its my first time travelling on my own. I will have all the tickets booked in advance, but I am confused, how can I show the airport security people that I have a ticket booked if I can only print out a boarding pass 24 hours before a flight and no earlier? Will I be given a digital file or something I can show them when I have booked the ticket?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  Год назад

      You may be asked to show a receipt. Though when I traveled in the past, it seemed like they knew whether I already had an outbound ticket (unless I was planning to do a border crossing, e.g., Thailand to Cambodia). I think airport officials can see whether you have flights booked to your name/passport.

    is this renting an onward ticket a solution to avoiding buying return ticket and not having problems when leaving my country with just one way ticket?

    • @TripAstute

      That is correct. When traveling to some countries, you may need to show proof of leaving the country in the future. If not, they may deny entry into the country.

  • @endycool2

    Good advice! Keep in mind that some countries require you to have a RETURN ticket to your home country. It seems ridiculous, what if you want to continue traveling? Anyway, they ask for a return ticket. If you are Latin American traveling to Europe an onward ticket to go to another destination might not do the trick.

    how do you cancel a plane ticket if you book on expedia or any other sites?? Because I cannot be calling them when I go to arrive at another country due to the cost of call and stuff.
    Also, if they want proof of accomodation then how can i book a hotel or put some cheap deposit that i cancel anytime without losing big bucks? any websites? Also the cancellation process is done through phone or online?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 лет назад

      Expedia allows you to cancel the ticket online, so you don't need to call them. Though to be safe, I do think that renting an onward ticket might be the easiest option if you're concerned about connectivity at your destination.
      In terms of accommodations, I personally have never heard of them requiring proof. In my experience, they seem to be more concerned about you leaving than staying. 😄

    • @popkahchin
      @popkahchin 6 лет назад

      Trip Astute yeah I am traveling to France and they need to see where i am staying and when I am leaving based on my hotel booking . They require a person to get certifcate of staying from yoir hosts.
      By the way, I have another question. How much of cash do I need to bring along with me when i arrive at the customs? I have checked on France embassy website. they require you to bring certain amount of money based on your accomodation. Hotel will be 120 euro per day and stuff

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 лет назад

      Interesting. I've been to France many times (via CDG and ORY airport) and have never been asked to show proof of my accommodation or carrying cash. If you don't mind me asking, where are you traveling from? I know that US citizens do not need a visa to go to France, so the rules are a bit more lax for us. Also, where are you planning to stay when you visit?
      I did get asked about my onward travel plans when I traveled in 2012. Since I was planning to take the train from Paris to London, I was going to be returning via London. Once I showed them my flight itinerary, they didn't ask any more questions.

    • @popkahchin
      @popkahchin 6 лет назад

      Trip Astute I am from Malaysia and I do not need a visa to go there. I am going to arrive at CDG and then take train from Paris to Limoges right away.My friend is going to host me at Limoges(southern part of france). So she has to get me a certificate of hosting. By the way, is there any ATMs machine before you go to passport control? It would be nice to be able to withdraw some if they ask

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 лет назад

      I don't remember there being an ATM before passing through passport control. Though I distinctly remember there being an HSBC ATM as I exited the secure area of the terminal. You might want to ask people on TripAdvisor or FlyerTalk. They should be able to give you a more recent first-hand account when passing through the airport.

    How do you know if you need a visa when going to another country?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  6 лет назад +1

      For US citizens, I recommend checking the State Department's website to determine the visa requirements: travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages.html
      It's also a good idea to check the country's government website for more details. For example, some countries can issue a visa on arrival, while others require you to get one in advance.
      Hope that's helpful! I actually have this topic in our backlog, so I'll probably do a video on it soon. 😉
