I love how the stone hearth and mantel turned out! It feels even more cozy in the cabin now. Eric and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I would nail in an array of little 3 quarter inch nails into the wood, about 2 inches apart. The nails should pertrude about quarter inch out. Apply mortar over the pertruded nail, rough finished. Let it dry with the wood for a week. Then only I mount those rocks with fresh mortar over the dry mortar base
I'm a 30+ yr Mason. I hope that doesn't fall in a few yrs. Your sopose to put wire mesh on a Cement bord nailed to the wall. And you should have some wall ties or nails sticking out a little to hold the top half. But it looks nice. 🙂👍Mud isn't made to stick to wood.

Your husband speaks !!!!!!!!!
Haha yes, sometimes I can convince him to!
Mantel looks great. How did you calculate how much weight the floor could hold?

I thought there would be concrete "backer board" on the wall like is used behind tile.
How many square feet is the cabin? Did you buy your plans, or design it yourself?
😮😮 ich kann nicht verstehen wie man Steine mit Mörtel auf Holz kleben kann. 1x gipskarton oder fermacell oder aquapaneel!!!
100% agree
