When I got the call to join Iced Earth on the Volbeat European tour in late 2013, the band had asked for me to send a video playing one of their songs. Since we had never met and would only have 2 days of rehearsal in Germany, they just wanted to make sure I could handle the job. Totally fair and normal practice.
So here is the 1st pass on the song Pure Evil as I attempted this from memory for the first time. I always learn songs completely to memory without guitar, bass, etc. That's the bar that lets me know I have the song down.
The band got the 2nd pass video after my legs were warmed up, etc. I wanted to share the 1st pass here not only so you can have a few laughs at the flubs and clams, but also enjoy the working process, not just the end result.

Not really an Iced Earth fan but I loved watching this! I almost bought a bubinga wood tama set years ago but eventually opted for maple for it's versatility and probably my favorite wood anyways. I knew a drummer that had a bubinga set and even mic'd on stage I still couldn't ever hear it for some reason. Maybe that Hz of my hearing is destroyed lol but anyways ROCK ON!
