Even EVH and Dimebag pieced their solos together and once they had the one they liked then that was the solo.

The "colour our world blackened" guitar/drum staccato fill is groundbreaking for metal and very Lars/James. That and the one machine gun piece make that album truly remarkable in terms of metal evolution. Lars was a creative beast.
I don’t care what anyone says when it comes to his ability on his own instrument. Lars was and still is a huge part in their sound. He contributes his own thoughts and arrangements to each song in amazing ways. To me Lars and James are the Paul McCartney and John Lennon of metal
What I love about this is contemplating that Lars was a self taught drummer, relatively new to drumming and had the creativity as a beginner to create these parts. I know how the eighties Metallica inspired many drummers and many of those inspired were far better than Lars, but he put something very cool on the table. This was great by the way 😉!

People just love to shit on Lars because he basically aged poorly and didn't keep up practicing the craft as many other artists do - but he's been a lot better recently. People to love to skip over the fact he also helped create almost all of their songs. There are always 'better' drummers out there, but there is only one Metallica, and only one Lars, and he created some masterpieces.
I read he was taking lessons (but i never knew who was the teacher) around the time they made this album. But it makes sense, this album does feature a more advanced type of drumming from Lars
That fill before the harmony at the end of the "see our mother put to death" part is one of the greatest drum fills ever! Great job Jon, but the bass guitar is too loud haha
Everybody always points out the Of Wolf And Man fill as his best but I believe there are far better examples, Almost everything on Justice was expertly crafted when it came to Lars. I get they were spliced for a fee songs, but still making a great long creative fitting fill like that for any song is hard
You can rag on Lars all you want now, being that he's not always at his best, but you CAN'T deny his talent! And love it that Jon is rockin' the Volbeat swag!!
This is classic and as I've said countless times. If Lars ever left Metallica, this guy would be the perfect replacement. He puts his heart and soul into his playing and pays the utmost respect to the original recording. I'd love to see him drum for Metallica on tour, just like he's drummed for Anthrax and Slayer.

Right. I honestly don't get people preferring MOP over AJFA. Sure it was great, but Metallica were on the road to invention through the first three albums. It wasn't like the bands that put all their life greatest stuff into their freshman album and then never match it(GnR, Zakk with Ozzy). Metallica was growing, and they peaked on AJFA before developing a new strategy, commercial success, and working on that before until they kinda jumped the shark(for me). AJFA is just pure tits.

Even my own kid overplays doing 200+ bpm heel toe tricks but can't pull off this song right because it's not appealing enough to memorize and it drives me crazy. So much good drumming on this album, and it's stuff most teens SHOULD be able to play, though maybe not give justice to, cough. ... and you didn't run a million triggers or even go fully mic'd, as a pro. This is literally the first drum cover of blackened that I’ve seen that DIDNT forget to do the 8th note add/subtract right after the solo. Hats off to you sir
I like that you played every second bar of the thrash beat parts (1:57 - 2:14) with just one foot (as it should be). Lars plays parts like this in Blackened, Battery, Fight Fire With Fire ect. all the way through with just the right foot and in every single cover I have ever seen everyone plays this always with two feet. One foot sound much better and much more dynamic.
I am so glad so see somebody feeling the same about how to play the quick double stroke kick-bass beats. yes, YES, that is how you're supposed to play them - there's always going to be some difference from one to the other, but that's what makes them great. and yes there are also the quick 'triplet-y' ones where a second foot is and has to be used. but to play the double stroke ones with one foot: *this is the way*

I believe he played Slayer and he played for anthrax when he was on tour that is extremely impressive do you know how tired and exhausting that is especially that type of music phenomenal drummer.. good friends with Thomas Lang and Thomas Lang praises them need to say more.. and he did Slayer Justice becoming their drummer equivalent to Lombardo..

Jon, I've been a big fan of your drumming for years. I remember seeing videos on youtube over a decade ago playing with Slayer, Anthrax, and Testament. I remember when you started jamming with Iced Earth, that was really cool. Please keep posting these videos. I'm just getting back into playing the drums after not playing for ten years and seeing how bad ass you are is inspiring. In some ways I feel like I'm starting from square one again.

Its even tricky to land clean, its like a freaky kick flip, some can do the move but not all can land it with perfection.

Jon, I've been a big fan of your drumming for years. I remember seeing videos on youtube over a decade ago playing with Slayer, Anthrax, and Testament. I remember when you started jamming with Iced Earth, that was really cool. Please keep posting these videos. I'm just getting back into playing the drums after not playing for ten years and seeing how bad ass you are is inspiring. In some ways I feel like I'm starting from square one again.
