Fantastic performance. I've seen all three drummers with slayer and in all honesty can't understand why you didn't get the gig over Bostaph. Don't get me wrong, his work with forbidden was great but you have his Hands and Lombardo's feet and bounce.
This guy is seriously better than Paul Bostaph. Don't get me wrong, Paul did some great composing in the studio. Divine Intervention is phenomenal! But his live drumming is a bit flawed. This man here is a better natural player
I saw him playing with Slayer on their Undisputed Attitude album tour!! I remember the great sound he had and the strange fact that he played the Charleston straight!! ...1996.... I was 18... Good times!!!!
Even though I’m a guitarist I’ve always loved John’s playing. If God forbid Lars ever got sick on tour John would be the perfect replacement. Aw heck with it this man could easily replace anyone in my opinion.
This dude is throwing his own licks on top of an already extremely difficult song. And a lefty to boot. Well done Lad. I wish I could play that song well enough to just get bored and add a little hot sauce!
Wow, that brings back memories. I played this song 50 times all the way through in one day because we had a show that night and I wanted it to be perfect. Killer wrist burn on the pick hand !
Dude you killed that. You have Dave's tone as well. Like spot tf on. I'm blown away. Post mortem is no walk in the park on any instrument. I love the Jazz undertones in Dave's playing. Great job man. You're a beast and a great lover I've been told. 👌
A 'How To Play (any) Slayer Song On Drums' tutorial video would be great. There's no tutorials on RUclips, only playthroughs. Working out fills played at full speed does your head in.
Great job! I love Lombardo and Benante, but when you are on the stage John you always kill it! I catch your stick when you perform with Anthrax & Slayer \m/
Dette is among the absolute greatest. I'd love to hear him in the context of a full album where he's had the opportunity to flex and write his own parts from the ground up.
John you are an amazing musician, exceptional execusion on this one ,even if you are great on all the others songs you are giving to us!!!!Absolutely AMAZING!!!Ciao from Italia 🤟🤟🤟
Man this is great! Would've loved to have a Slayer album with you on drums! I think in the first 10ish years of thrash, from the big 4 the best drumming came from 1 Dave Lombardo 2 Nick Menza 3 Gar Samuelson 4 Charlie Benante I could never find anything appealing with Lars Ulrich, each of them know the "basic" thrash beats but he just doesn't make the cut with his fills and feeling etc. And we know a bunch of his stuff on notably AJFA is pieced together from a lot of takes. No idea where to put Chuck Behler in there, haven't listened to SFSGSW enough.
Dave Lombardo - a man that made full use of the entire kit, rather than just mindlessly blasting away on the bass drums, with not much else going on.
Amen. If I have the drums, I’m playing ALL of them.
It's reminds me to Lars hahahahaha
@@alejuarez8932 he can't even keep time
That because Lombardo is also a percussion artist.
Couldn't agree more! His liberal and unabashed use of tom fills exemplifies your point
Love that drumming. It has for some reason the Lombardo-flow. That’s something I‘ve always missed in Paul‘s drumming.
now this is what i call metal drumming
Fantastic performance. I've seen all three drummers with slayer and in all honesty can't understand why you didn't get the gig over Bostaph. Don't get me wrong, his work with forbidden was great but you have his Hands and Lombardo's feet and bounce.
Just another example of why Mr. Dette is one of my top five all-time favorite drummers.
Damn,Jon dette doesn’t get enough credit. So under appreciated. Such a great drummer!
Thank You Jon. I had to watch this a few times because it is one of my favorite songs on the album.
The hit right after "I'm only after death" is so good!
The best after dave departure
Amazing job drumming colleague, now Raining Blood!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Superb drumming, thank you for this. One of the best songs of the world best and greatest band.
Magnificent stuff! It's nice to see someone on RUclips actually twatting the drums hard and looking they're actually enjoying themselves!
Just an absolute badass!!!
This guy is seriously better than Paul Bostaph. Don't get me wrong, Paul did some great composing in the studio. Divine Intervention is phenomenal! But his live drumming is a bit flawed. This man here is a better natural player
Absolute amazing. One of my favourite songs including the swing feeling. And haters gonna hate hate hate...
Why ppl would hate this thrash masterpiece!? 🤷🏻♂️
Dude, that snare sounds soooo good! It has LIFE to it. 🤘
I saw him playing with Slayer on their Undisputed Attitude album tour!! I remember the great sound he had and the strange fact that he played the Charleston straight!! ...1996.... I was 18... Good times!!!!
Love it! Those kicks sound like fucking cannons!! ESP at 2:34
Great shape, energy, dynamics, hero! \m/
I wish he continued to Reign in Blood, the adrenaline is there....
I could watch this over and ovet
Even though I’m a guitarist I’ve always loved John’s playing. If God forbid Lars ever got sick on tour John would be the perfect replacement. Aw heck with it this man could easily replace anyone in my opinion.
ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! And I don't even care that you play backwards either! :p :p
This dude is throwing his own licks on top of an already extremely difficult song. And a lefty to boot. Well done Lad. I wish I could play that song well enough to just get bored and add a little hot sauce!
Truly phenomenal. You bring new life into these classics. Pure Joy to watch and hear 🎧🔥
I love the sound of the floor toms.
Another great job. Could you please do a video explaining how you got the gigs with these great bands? 👍
Good cover, but watch Dave playing it live there's a drum cam video out there and he totally destroys it and his way of playing it is unmatched
Wow, that brings back memories. I played this song 50 times all the way through in one day because we had a show that night and I wanted it to be perfect. Killer wrist burn on the pick hand !
Awesome video
Jon is the perfect cocktail 🍹 of big4 drumming 🔥🤯
Dude. You ripped that shit. Awesome job!
I didn't know you actually played in Slayer. Lol. I guess it makes sense why you killed it. But hey, you ripped that shit nonetheless.
Great job, as usual !!!!!🤟
My brother Pierre 🤘🏿
Ha ha ! Are you teasing Raining Blood for the next one ?
Please continue this, it's amazing !
dude you got all the posters i had in my room. But there is nothing like having the ride sound like the original.
So tight, great kit, wonderful playing!
Flawless, John you're a beast
Another awesome rendition! 🤘🏽
Masterclass!!🤘🏼
Jeez this is guy is immense. A pleasure to watch you play these songs Jon
The guy has filled in for all the drummers who composed these songs! Watching this just shows me why. Awesome drumming!
Superb, speed of the left hand 🤘just like a fine wine, you're getting better with age Jon. 🥁👊
Man I look forward to these video. Love them John.

This is wonderful John. Your snare and whole kit sound amazing!!!
the kit sounds phenomenal!

How good is this guy🤘🤘unreal John 🤘🤘

Brutal song, brutal drumminng, thanks a lot for sharing. Cheers from Venezuela!
I don’t understand why slayer didn’t bring you back full time after Dave left.
Sick man well done
Outstanding Pocket in this one!
Extraordinary....you kidnapped me with your performance....You are completely into the vortex of the piece....🔥🔥🔥🔥
Right on man!!…Killed it!…
Excellent Jon 👏
One legend to another almighty slaaaayyerr
Love his playing
Great job! I love Lombardo and Benante, but when you are on the stage John you always kill it! I catch your stick when you perform with Anthrax & Slayer \m/
Thank you for displaying exactly what drew me in about this music all those years ago and still resonates with my till this day!
Dette is among the absolute greatest. I'd love to hear him in the context of a full album where he's had the opportunity to flex and write his own parts from the ground up.
Nothing to say your drumming speaks itself ,greatings from italy

Great time and beefy drums especially toms!
Long time has passed since the last time I watched a letf handed drummer.... Good performance!
Check Nils Dominator
Epic performance, it was like I was hearing the studio version
Great Job!!!Matador!!!
