  • The Aussie Fisherman Greg, giving the boys a crabbing experience. So they can teach others crabbers how to handle mudcrabs and use best practices when fishing for mudcrabs.
Like I said in previous videos, these boys are strong lads. Mark has no trouble pulling up the crabpot and placing the pot upside down on the floor of my fishing boat. Two reasons for doing that one is to pull freash mullet heads in the bait box, which is on the bottom of the pot. Next is to let the mudcrabs out of the pot. Just lift the side where the hook is for the door and let the crabs walk out. The safest way for beginners. Once the crab is of the crabpot, you need to check the size and what sex it is. In Queensland, it is illegal to take female crabs and under size mudcrabs (150mm)is the minimum. Next is a very important part of mudcrabbing. You need to check if the crab is full of meat. Not an empty one, if you are not sure how to check, just look up some of my previous videos.
One of the first things I like to teach people is how to pick up a mudcrab. Once you are comfortable doing that yourself, everything you have to do with handling mudcrabs is easy. I found that picking up mudcrabs is the most people fear. Mark by the end of the day was not afraid to them at by showing off picking up two of them at one time, well done Mark. 👍.
In each video I do about fishing or crabbing, I will give you a couple of tips that will hopefully help you enjoy your wonderful time on the water.
