Windows has wsl (windows subsystem for linux), it has a whole linux kernel integrate under the hood. In mac os you are basically paying for everything, even a window splitter costs money, which comes free on windows.
WSL is not as tightly integrated into Windows as the shell in macOS, it's basically just a Linux container. Yes, macOS does lack some functionality out of the box, but it also lacks forced updates, horrific inconsistent UI, obnoxious ads in Start menu, intrusive spyware that comes bundled with the system, codebase that barely changed since Windows 2000 and so on). Well since I do enjoy bringing computers to their bleeding edge, I decided well... triple boot! So SSD gets Windows and Ubuntu, m2 gets mojave and the 2 TB is used for media. First you start with OS X (mojave) and a word of caution. If you want to get the installation complete using Wolfgang's files (probably everyone's files have the same issue but I can't guarantee it...) remove all drives that wont be used (so for me that would be SSD and HDD). Yep, I edit videos on it bc I don't have access to my desktop PC for now. It's reasonably fast, but Premiere works better since Davinci expects you to have a powerful GPU
I bought a Thinkpad X240 with 8G RAM and 128 Gb of SSD and I was thinking of Hackintosh it. Could I use the same approach as you did for the T440P? I don't have a Mac myself now, as I sold my old one to buy a newer Windows machine. Please let me know your thoughts? Thanks!
I tried to follow the tonymacx86 guide but unfortunately I couldn’t even get through the first boot screen that ended with *****************************************. I have used an EFI folder provided by GeoHope 164 that already hacked the same model. I also only have access to Linux or Windows 10. I really need some help.
macOS is honestly amazing, but I was brainwashed by /g/ to automatically hate anything to do with Apple. I don’t go to 4chan at all anymore and I enjoy my computer being nicer to use than ever before, and nicer to look at than ever before. I guess what I’m trying to say is ignorance is bliss. Use what you like and don’t listen to people who really care what OS you run.
Hi need your advice. I can't get external display working via dock display port. I changed the bios display in the bios to docking statin and digital , though it starts up.....it gets stuck halfway in the Mac logo screen and keeps rebooting.....but I see yours is working out of the box ? how.......what port in the dock did you use ? how to overcome this ? is there a kext for this ???
a VM is never as good as bare metal performance-wise. I thought it was obvious from LTT's video that it's a solution to launch some Mac-only applications once every now and then, not daily driver material.
Hey man! Sorry to bother you again! I have a situation with the sleep mode. I would say that works one out of three times and when it does, it comes back after around 30 min. Is there a way that I can fix it? Thank you man!
I just don't understand why you didn't do the vanilla method where you leave the system partition alone, or vanilla. This prevents any issues in between updates.
It's recommended to put your kexts in /Library/Extensions. Not all kexts play well with Clover injection and besides, you will DEFINITELY have issues between updates even if your system partition is intact. You'll most likely need different kexts, different kernel and kext patches, different SSDT hotpatches etc.
Hi my friend, I have encountered an issue that I cannot figure out. On 5:29 mine does not copying the image to the flash drive. What will be the reason? Thanks in advance.
I have t440p and same dongle , whenever sleep and wake up , the dongle does not work anymore, i have to reboot to make it work Additionally, could i apply this tutorials for calatina ? Ps: you have done great ! Very detail and informative video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Wolfgang, for some reason my script terminates on the unmount. However, I can manually input the rest of the commands successfully. Any thoughts as to why it doesn't get through to the flash? (Running an Archlinux distro)
Hi Wolfgang. It’s me again. I’m perfecting the t440p hackintosh. The last problem I have is with the headphone sound. The sound is weak and full of white noise/hum. Is it a generic unsolved issue ?
Yes I did. Sound is ok on speakers but in headphones it is crap. I need to search. Maybe I’ll try using ALC3232.kext. Is it ok to add it like I did previpusly or do you suggest to remove stuff to avoid kernel panic.
I think the issue was that my earplug were equiped with a mic and the signal is automatically mixed with the audio. I need to check with normal headphones.
While Windows external hard drive installation works flawlessly hackintosh ones refuse to boot. I wanted to try Catalina and leave my internal hard drive safe from the update. The same external hard drive installation ironically works on a hp g3 250 but refuse to boot on t440p even if it s cooked specifically for It. Is there any reason for this behaviour?
Yes to both. It measures pretty well against the 2018 13" model with dual-core CPU, but loses against the modern quad-core models. Which is understandable, considering the price.
Will your clover folder work with a t540p and an i5-4300m? Im new to this whole procedure and just want to try it. I bought the ThinkPad for 150€ just a few weeks ago
I'm a little hesitant about replacing the screen when I get mine as I will have it hooked up to my monitor a lot and I'm guessing the laptop display cant be disabled within macOS? so macOS will have to drive two 1080P screens, this might choke the framebuffer a bit leading to a laggy UI?
@@WolfgangsChannel Got it up and running, turns out macOS detects if a USB keyboard and mouse is connected if you do and if you close the lid it disconnects the laptop screen and runs in clamshell mode :D

Hi, fantastic video I have been using Dell 6410 as a Hackintosh then I saw this and looks good, what video option should I look for when buying a Thinkpad T440P? Intel HD4600? thanks
@@WolfgangsChannel Thank you for your reply, very reassuring I will go ahead a get a Thinkpad, just one more question, can I use my HDMI monitor easily with the display port out with MacOs?
Should be no problem. There's one thing, you won't be able to suspend or shutdown if you're using a docking station + an external monitor. A temporary fix is to prevent laptop from sleeping when on AC adapter
@@WolfgangsChannel Thanks for replying and your excellent tips, I have sucessfully used the Dell 6410 with an Oled Monitor for photo editing up to High Sierra but then 'No Nvidia drivers' and no further updates on the Dell laptop, so this tutorial you have posted has got me really excited and maybe now continue on to Catalina on a low budget and yes I use Linux as well
It could, but I haven't seen anyone who managed yet. Besides it's very inconvenient since you need to choose between Wi-Fi and an external GPU. Get a newer laptop with Thunderbolt if you need an external GPU
hello, great guide I was successful in getting in it to work, but I have a few questions questions 1. Can you upgrade to catalina internally and not lose any functionality ? after install 2. I didnt install any kekts for wifi, running out of ethernet as per your videos, but if I have to can i safely remove the whitelist now and as per your other video and put in a DW1820A, according to ameeno it works and use his kekts your thoughts ? thanks in advance
1. You can try to do that, but I would recommend making a full bootable backup of your system in case something goes wrong (it probably will). 2. I also bought DW1820A after reading ameeno's guide, but even though my card had a "good" revision number as per this guide: osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/11322-broadcom-bcm4350-cards-under-high-sierramojavecatalina/ I couldn't get it to work without a patched IO80211Family kext, which caused intermittent KP on reboot. I would recommend this instead: notthebe.ee/2019/08/18/airport/ It's a bit more involved than just replacing the Wi-Fi card, but it's totally worth it - stuff just works out of the box twitter.com/ivanstanul/status/1179787228266074116

This is great i was thinking of doing the same thing when i installed but just wanted to get all things right first with the mojave install this is good to know though .
May i ask how your trackpad is working on mojave gestures dont seem to work for me along with other stuff .
Hey man! Thank you very much for sharing this. Qustion, you mentioned that you use ableton. How does behave? and logic? Did you have any problems regarding interface, audio. etc?
Thank you again!
Yeah, everything works just fine, especially with a USB Audio Interface (I use Scarlett Solo). The onboard combo jack is finicky sometimes
@@WolfgangsChannel Thanks! Two other questions that would really help me are: is also usable without the interface? And have you installed Logic prox X? And if you did, how does it work? With and without the interface. Hope to hear from you man! Thank you again!
@@luismoramatus Built-in audio jack works OK mostly, but sometimes it just outputs static and refuses to work until you reboot the machine.
@@WolfgangsChannel Sorry to bother you again, but the static noise in the jack wont leave even though I put the instal.sh from the audiofix at the terminal. I've rebooted around 4 times and it's always there. The speakers are good, but the jack won't work. Any ideas how to fix it?
Done! Just run ALCplugfix, perfect!
You make it look so easy! But I have a 20ET0014US
Running Windows 10 Pro
I noticed you have davinci resolve. Do you use your Thinkpad for editing your videos, and if so, how fast is it?
Yep, I edit videos on it bc I don't have access to my desktop PC for now. It's reasonably fast, but Premiere works better since Davinci expects you to have a powerful GPU
I'm not drunken enough to install macos on a t440p.
Thanks for this Wolfgang. I was just wondering if this is possible for Catalina, via the steps you provided?
Maybe
@@WolfgangsChannel gonna try this now
I bought a Thinkpad X240 with 8G RAM and 128 Gb of SSD and I was thinking of Hackintosh it.
Could I use the same approach as you did for the T440P?
I don't have a Mac myself now, as I sold my old one to buy a newer Windows machine.
Please let me know your thoughts? Thanks!
No, you will most likely need a different EFI folder
I tried to follow the tonymacx86 guide but unfortunately I couldn’t even get through the first boot screen that ended with *****************************************. I have used an EFI folder provided by GeoHope 164 that already hacked the same model. I also only have access to Linux or Windows 10. I really need some help.
Hey, great guide! Just wondering, is this all applicable to my x250 as well?
MacOS is unironically the final unix redpill
macOS is honestly amazing, but I was brainwashed by /g/ to automatically hate anything to do with Apple. I don’t go to 4chan at all anymore and I enjoy my computer being nicer to use than ever before, and nicer to look at than ever before. I guess what I’m trying to say is ignorance is bliss. Use what you like and don’t listen to people who really care what OS you run.
@Chexier not even unix
@Chexier fair enough but the darwin kernel is closer to unix than the linux kernel all things considered.
Runs on xnu kernel.. literally 'X is not unix'
You’re a hero bro
Hi need your advice. I can't get external display working via dock display port. I changed the bios display in the bios to docking statin and digital , though it starts up.....it gets stuck halfway in the Mac logo screen and keeps rebooting.....but I see yours is working out of the box ? how.......what port in the dock did you use ? how to overcome this ? is there a kext for this ???
What about Linus Tech Tip's method of installing it in a VM inside of Linux and booting through that?
a VM is never as good as bare metal performance-wise.
Hi Wolfgang,
I use a thinkpad t470p and followed the tutorial but it didn’t work
I just don't understand why you didn't do the vanilla method where you leave the system partition alone, or vanilla.
What is the type of your Ultra Dock? DVI output on 40A1 does not work with T460P(catalina)
Hi my friend, I have encountered an issue that I cannot figure out. On 5:29 mine does not copying the image to the flash drive. What will be the reason? Thanks in advance.
Can’t seem to get 4K out of the Mini DisplayPort... I’m stuck at 1080p in Mojave while windows and Linux output 4K just fine. Any thoughts?
I have t440p and same dongle , whenever sleep and wake up , the dongle does not work anymore, i have to reboot to make it work
Additionally, could i apply this tutorials for calatina ?
Ps: you have done great ! Very detail and informative video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Wolfgang, for some reason my script terminates on the unmount. However, I can manually input the rest of the commands successfully. Any thoughts as to why it doesn't get through to the flash? (Running an Archlinux distro)
Fixed :)
Thanks So much for the tutorial. I like to know if the dock is Thinkpad 40A1 Pro Dock?
I think so
What screen resolution are you running? Is the 1920x1080 IPS panel bad for scaling macOS?
No, it’s ok.
Hi Wolfgang. It’s me again.
I’m perfecting the t440p hackintosh. The last problem I have is with the headphone sound. The sound is weak and full of white noise/hum.
Is it a generic unsolved issue ?
Normally it shouldn't be that way. Have you applied the audio fix in the repo?
Yes I did. Sound is ok on speakers but in headphones it is crap. I need to search. Maybe I’ll try using ALC3232.kext. Is it ok to add it like I did previpusly or do you suggest to remove stuff to avoid kernel panic.
That's pretty weird, it works fine on my machine
I think the issue was that my earplug were equiped with a mic and the signal is automatically mixed with the audio. I need to check with normal headphones.
The jack combines external analog audio and mic capability
While Windows external hard drive installation works flawlessly hackintosh ones refuse to boot. I wanted to try Catalina and leave my internal hard drive safe from the update. The same external hard drive installation ironically works on a hp g3 250 but refuse to boot on t440p even if it s cooked specifically for It. Is there any reason for this behaviour?
T440p. There is no internet connection during installation. ifconfig output does not have an integrated Intel network card. What am I doing wrong?
Hello Wolfgang, When i boot up the usb, I get a O with a line thought it. It will not boot
I followed this a while ago, and it worked great. I just upgraded to IPS panel, and the screen is all glitchy. Any ideas?
Checked the behavior on other OSes already?
Wolfgang's Channel Yes, works fine on windows.
Will this work on a T430? Seems like getting a T430 is way cheaper than a T440 in my country.
So did you install the i7 into this with 16 gigs of RAM and how did yours measure up against the current MacBook
Yes to both. It measures pretty well against the 2018 13" model with dual-core CPU, but loses against the modern quad-core models. Which is understandable, considering the price.
Will your clover folder work with a t540p and an i5-4300m? Im new to this whole procedure and just want to try it. I bought the ThinkPad for 150€ just a few weeks ago
your best bet is to probably just get a separate hard drive installing it on that to see if it works well and if you like it you can always clone it
Thank you so much 😊
I'm a little hesitant about replacing the screen when I get mine as I will have it hooked up to my monitor a lot and I'm guessing the laptop display cant be disabled within macOS? so macOS will have to drive two 1080P screens, this might choke the framebuffer a bit leading to a laggy UI?
Not unless you're running an i3 CPU in there 😁 HD4600 doesn't have any problem with driving two FullHD displays
@@WolfgangsChannel Got it up and running, turns out macOS detects if a USB keyboard and mouse is connected if you do and if you close the lid it disconnects the laptop screen and runs in clamshell mode :D
You're really really really cute.
Your channel picture too.
Missed this video completely. '-'
So you can use linux to create a mac os mojave bootable usb drive
Mojave works on t440 for everyone who is wondering, couldnt get catalina to work though.
catalina work for me
PLEASE HELP! After typing in -v and 0x12345678, it keeps bringing me back to the clover bootloading screen and I’ve typed this in sooo many and still no change. I don’t get any Welcome screen from MacOS
did you choose english because of the video or do you normally have your computers setup in english?
I normally use english on my computers
@@WolfgangsChannel why, surely german is more comfortable for you?
Not really, I'm used to English on my devices
@@WolfgangsChannel fair enough, it probably helps when you're trouble shooting online anyway :P
Great Job Wolfgang. With your help I managed to install Mojave on a T440P. The only problem I have right now is that the webcam is not working. Facetime is telling me I have no connected camera. Do you have a solution eventualy ?
Check if the camera is enabled in the BIOS
I did check but no obvious option was visible.
Integrated Camera is enabled in Bios in security / I/O Port Access
@@marctamtonthat Ah, yes, that's true. Mount EFI (diskutil mount /dev/disk0s1) and delete the file /EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/SSDT-USB.aml (or SSDT-UIAC.aml, I'm not sure). Tell me if that works
It worked. My camera is functional. The USBInjectall.kext was missing.
Hey i dont want to sound rude but will you make a catalina video? beacuse i might get this laptop.
That depends on how good this laptop is going to run it. For now it's too early to speculate on that since Catalina still isn't out
@@WolfgangsChannel Ok. thanks for the reply.
Hi, fantastic video I have been using Dell 6410 as a Hackintosh then I saw this and looks good, what video option should I look for when buying a Thinkpad T440P? Intel HD4600? thanks
Hi! Yeah, HD4600 is the best option since GeForce doesn't work at all on Hackintosh (doesn't work very well on Linux either).
@@WolfgangsChannel Thanks for replying and your excellent tips, I have sucessfully used the Dell 6410 with an Oled Monitor for photo editing up to High Sierra but then 'No Nvidia drivers' and no further updates on the Dell laptop, so this tutorial you have posted has got me really excited and maybe now continue on to Catalina on a low budget and yes I use Linux as well
Have you tried using an external gpu with it? Do you think it would work?
It could, but I haven't seen anyone who managed yet. Besides it's very inconvenient since you need to choose between Wi-Fi and an external GPU. Get a newer laptop with Thunderbolt if you need an external GPU
hello, great guide I was successful in getting in it to work, but I have a few questions questions
1. Can you upgrade to catalina internally and not lose any functionality ? after install
2. I didnt install any kekts for wifi, running out of ethernet as per your videos, but if I have to can i safely remove the whitelist now and as per your other video and put in a DW1820A, according to ameeno it works and use his kekts
your thoughts ? thanks in advance
I would recommend this instead: notthebe.ee/2019/08/18/airport/
It's a bit more involved than just replacing the Wi-Fi card, but it's totally worth it - stuff just works out of the box twitter.com/ivanstanul/status/1179787228266074116
@@WolfgangsChannel thank you so much
@@WolfgangsChannel Hello, so I followed word to word and got the white list off via kale. I also followed the twitter/your page on airport card installation. So.....bluetooth works on and off as it connects and disconnects .....any ideas......or suggestions ? I didnt put in ant of the Kekxt in the beginning like yours are they needed or should this perform oob ?
You should make another video doing something similar on a corebooted/librebooted system!
I might just do that!
