Today on the channel we're checking out an upgrade for the Floyd Rose system that I'm really excited about - the Lok-N-Roll compensated locking nut. This is a drop in replacement for the standard Floyd Rose nut. It's fully compensated (meaning fine tuned to allow for maximum intonation) and, in my humble opinion, fixes a lot of the issues I've experienced with the standard Floyd Rose nut.

Thx so much for this video. I ordered 3 of these and just got them in. They are leaps and bounds better than the original Floyd nut. After having one of these installed I realized the stock Floyd nut is a weak link in the system compared to the quality of these. I will use them on all my guitars from now on. If anyone is on the fence about buying one you just need to do it.
Agreed man! Thanks for posting this testimonial. They're super cool and I fully support using them on every Floyd Rose guitar haha
Can't believe Floyd Rose still makes the sharp locking nut with massive gates for the strings. Great option for a high quality nut.
Love the
Speak of the Devil in background
Yeah, it's weird to me that they never did a V2 of it... Really glad Greg from Lok-n-Roll made these!
This looks like exactly what I want. The original design is sharp and jagged.
Might need to check one out, the locking nuts on my Jackson is already rusty and a bit stripped.
TheSpineSplitter1990 I highly recommend em!
Definitely need one of these, great video!!!
Cillian Plummer thank you! Haha yeah I think I need like 5 more of these for all of my Floyd guitars!😅
Been considering trying these out for awhile.
Great Jackson by the way
Thank you!
They look cool and sound great! I wish the logo wasn’t stamped on the top of it though.
I can understand that, BUT, unlike a normal FR nut, since this is compensated, it can only go on one way - so the logo helps in that way
Bryce VanHoosen yea that’s just a personal preference. They do look great and are a huge improvement to locking nuts. Your video is the reason I got one, the demonstration on the tuning is what sold me.
I need one of these bad! You are correct, the tunings IS out on the lower frets even though the rest of in tune.
Yeah, it's a constant struggle! And something you learn to deal with. These Lok-n-Roll nuts are a godsend though
That's super rad!
Balmore Lemus I’m way too excited about it!
Bryce, This is a great demo of how the individual strings are not slightly out of tune anymore, but I think it would really drive home the importance of the issue by comparing chords in the first 3 to 5 frets on these two guitars. If you can make a short video showing that, it would be awesome!
I'll try and do that at some point!
They don’t work on Ibanez guitars yet. No 430mm radius option
That's a bummer! I know they're specifically meant to work with Floyd Rose, and since Ibanez use their own tremolo that means you're stuck with their nuts.
So we’re gonna ignore what you said in the beginning 🤣
Spetznaz Ninja I needed a strong opener! Hahaha 😂
Bryce VanHoosen it was a great one. Also are the lock n roll nuts worth it?
Spetznaz Ninja I think so! About $50 for a compensated nut that makes your guitar much more in tune. That’s definitely less than you’d pay a luthier to cut a custom one for you
Bryce, after having it around for over 2 years, do you still dig the LNR nut? You couldn't get a Lok N Roll nut if your life depended upon it now. I own a total of 2. Greg hasn't had any nuts in like 2 years? Company is basically dead. He is advertising a "New" nut for 2022, but nothing yet. Too bad, cause it is a good product, and I'd buy more if I could!
Lok-n-roll should point out that you intonate bridge differently for it to work right. Intonate from 7 to 19 for bridge, not open to 12. Compensating nut should auto correct for open to 12. Technically, open to 7.
Hmmm, interesting! Good to know!
Curious to ask, I have a Jackson USA SL2H 2016 model and would like to install the Lok-N-Roll R3. Was it hard to get the original locking nut off any of your Jacksons, and will it be a one for one replacement without any hassle? Meaning was any glue or anything used preventing you from easily removing your original Jackson locking nut?
I want to buy for my 1988 Fender. But I didn't get any answers on the Facebook page.
Unfortunately I think he's been OOS for over a year!
I'm glad there is a new locking nut around! the question is why wouldn't you just adjust the strength length on your red guitar and compare both? shouldn't it do the same?
Not at the nut, no. You're intonating at the bridge when you do that
Hallo bryce, I see Mackie speaker on your desk. Doest that speaker accurate for tone/sound designe for digital modeling amp?
I mean, at the stage its still same tone as your create at home?
Glad if you reply it🙏
Haha no, those speakers are terrible and way too bass heavy. I’ve since switched to the IK Multimedia iLoud Precision 8s which are waaaaay more accurate.
Wow, man...I got a Lifeson Epiphone that I eventually departed with...Why? Because what you call "cowboy chords" just way over the top annoyed me, intonation wise...I thought it was an improper positioning of the nut itself...as in the distance from the nut to the first fret was not properly positioned....
Is all that is required for the giveaway to follow on IG? I didn't see any posts or stories about further instructions. Looks like a rad product!
Ian MacDonald I just posted it here - instagram.com/p/B8MjnX6l-a8/ IG took a bit of time to upload today fir some reason 🤷♂️
Are they still out of stock
It seems like it... Last I heard he was switching manufacturers. I have like 4 guitars that need these hahaha
@@bvanhoosen yea thanks for the info man keep up on the videos
Warm, fresh nut
Spaghetti marinara with nut
True temperament nuts😂😂😂
Seems like they've been sold out for ages
Yeah, unfortunately everything associated with Floyd Rose has been. Supposedly they’re getting restocked soon?
@@bvanhoosen They just informed me it'll be 120 days. They're working with a new manufacturer and have improved the design.
What gauge strings do you use with the lok n roll nut?
Jonah Moore I use Ernie Ball Ultra Slinky 10-48 in D standard.
Pretty cool.
What about my 1991 Jackson soloist professional, I stripped the baseplate holes in the low E and A string positions at the saddle yesterday after a re-string. I Was doing the intonation when it happened. Very unhappy.
The trem is a JT-590, Charvel branded, shaller made in Germany Floyd.
I checked the specs and it seems, I cannot just drop n go with a FR original. I'd have to do a little routing to accommodate an original.
And to get the same bridge is impossible. They don't make em anymore! Grrrrr!!
Ebay has one, but they want like $250+ for it.
They consider it a boutique item now. Scumbags man.
Long story short I don't want to just slap a piece of shit Floyd Rose inside of this gorgeous Beast. The same place on eBay will sell me just the baseplate, but they want $100. I'd rather just put a brand new original Floyd in at like I said but I can't just drop and go
William DiStasio you want to get the Schaller Floyd Rose! I’ve replaced the one on my Charvel 375 dlx and it’s a drop in replacement - reverb.com/item/30867762-new-schaller-floyd-rose-locking-tremolo-bridge-whammy-bar-black-sb-0290-003?
"A chord-y bit that our bassist wrote"? Where did you find a bassist who can write guitar parts? lol
Have you checked out the Sophia tremolos by chance?
Hahaha, all the bassists I've played with have played guitar! Just maybe not as well as me, so that's why they went to bass hahahaha
I bought and returned mine because it just screamed bullshit but I had to try it. Check out these ridiculous claims
Increased note clarity
Even tension across the fingerboard
Reduced hand and wrist fatigue
Faster playing
Piano-like pronounced chords
it doesn't work. it's snake oil. have an almost impossible to find Earvana floyd nut on my axe & it works like a charm. i ordered & tried the Lok-n-roll and all i can say is it does NOT work as advertised. i have been a floyd user for almost 40yrs & am an expert user. I don't know why Ernie Ball sued earvana so they had to stop making the nuts. But they still make regular not which I just don't understand. All I can tell you is caveat emptor.
larry mitchell I mean, it’s a compensated nut that’s comparable to other compensated nuts - I wouldn’t expect anymore or less. Haven’t used the Earvana, so I can’t comment on that. I’m sure it’s great though. All I know is my experience, which is what I went over in the video. Sorry your experience wasn’t the same my dude.
I suspect your bridge was the problem, but can’t know. In general, don’t intonate from open string to 12. Intonate the bridge from 7 to 19. Then your compensated nut should correct from open to 7. I only know this from the people who make compensated nuts manually. There a few videos that show up when searching for compensated nut.
larry mitchell, I have the Earvana as well. Wish I'd bought 5 of the things when I had the chance.
