    I love my Sophia Tremolo system! I had mine installed on a Charvel San Dimas like the one pictured (Only mine has the blue, ocean burst finish). The person who installed it personally knows Floyd Rose and did hundreds if not thousands of Floyd Rose installs on many guitars for decades. He was extremely impressed with the quality and style of the Sophia 2:92! Incidentally, the system works like a dream! 🤘
    Edit: I still unfortunately have the original Floyd Rose locking nut. I would really like to get one of these with the individual string locks! I'll have to save up!

    The DropTuner upgrade does protrude and can limit upward pull if not addressed, perhaps, like the D-Tuna, which also requires an additional rout -

    I recently ran across an interview series with Gary Kahler about the re-introduction of the Steeler tremolo platform for 2024, I was pretty stoked because the Killer is one of my favorite trem systems, only to be told that they were too expensive to produce. I proceeded to get into a heated discussion with the guy giving the interview where several suggestions were made and shot down because it 'just wouldn't work' (mostly involving simplifying the saddles because why tf do they need 13 parts each?) and that consumers are too uninformed to make worthwhile suggestions 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂. So imagine my surprise to see this wonderful piece of engineering! It's got the best things from the Killer without the convoluted (read ego stroking), has all of the 'impossible' suggestions already included and is no more expensive than the other top-line systems out there. Plus it can be use headless! Seriously well done!! I wish I would've know about this sooner. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to prepare my wallet for the beating your website is about to give it 😁😁

    I have a Kiesel Ultra-V with a Floyd Rose Original on it. I like what I see with the Sophia 2:92 except for the extended length. I'd be worried that if I pulled up too much on the tremolo arm that the fine tuner knobs would extend beyond the cavity and dig into the guitar's finish- even without the detuner. From what videos I've seen, it would be a really close fit. Any experience with replacing FR trems with these on Kiesel Ultra V?

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22  Месяц назад +1

      The Sophia 2:92 w/ macro-tuners fit most OFR tremolos with recessed cavities -- typically the recess should extend be a little less than 3" from the centerline of the risers -- we just got some custom stainless steel knobs that also introduce a shorty and a short spine version that are about .065 [incorreclty stated as .200"earlier] shorter -- the typical dimension of the end of the intonated six string macro-tuner is anywhere from 2.75 to 2.92"depending on the guitar, etc. -- the shorter knobs then reduce this length to 2.685 to 2.855 -

      So the 2:92 Deluxe seems to not even have fine tuners on it- is that the difference between that and the more expensive model? If so, I may be able to do with that, since my guitar already has locking tuners at the headstock, although when I custom ordered the guitar from Kiesel, they recommended I get the locking FR nut anyway, which I did. I'm afraid that if I leave the FR locking nut in place, without locking it, the string grooves might not be suited for tremolo use.

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22  Месяц назад

      @@gbferrell Yes, the Deluxe locking saddles do not have our full-range tuners -- if you lock the strings at the nut, you cannot further tune the guitar -- the issue with the first floyd, etc. -- We suggest you get tuners for this arrangement is best since otherwise we are not sure if anyone sells a non-locking nut for the vintage locking nut shelf specifications...

    I am confused on how to shim the Sophia for my 12" radius neck. Could you please tell exactly which strings (Low E, A, D, G, B, High E ) need to be shimmed and how much? I know this is a subjective question, but it would help to get a general idea of where to start. I'm thinking from your chart, the G should have one .2 mm shim and the rest of the strings don't need any. I think that's what you meant in your email but instead of 'G' you said 3rd string, which would depend on which side you are counting from. Usually, the high E is considered the 1st string, but just want to make sure.

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22  9 дней назад +1

      We offer shims placed between the addle and the base plate, like intake locking tremolos, to alter the pre-fixed R14 radius we use on our tremolos.... shims under teh middle saddles increases the roundness and lowers the number, to say R 12 or R10 ..

    • @gbferrell
      @gbferrell 9 дней назад

      @@merkaba22 Sorry, I missed your reply in our email chain: "The Sophia 2:92 is performance oriented and has an R14 specification that works well with R12 to R16 and compound radii out of the box - you can order a set of shims, placed between the macro-tuners and the base plate, to alter the radius if you prefer." So, basically, you are saying that the shims aren't absolutely necessary because the 14" radius Sophia will still work well with 12-16" radii, right out of the box and adding shims or not depends on personal preference. I mounted the tremolo last night with a .2mm shim under the G string saddle. Seems fine, but I have yet to adjust the intonation. If I'd read your email reply more carefully, I wouldn't have had to ask that question.

    Over engineered. Just a Gotoh 510 with the Wilkinson locking saddles on it, a LSR ball bearing nut and staggered locking tuners, and the guitars stays in tune as good as a FR system. Way easier to intonate and tune.

    Titling this video ‘upgrading’ is really a matter of opinion. In my opinion, the Floyd Rose is the best tremolo ever made and there is no ‘upgrade’. But that’s just my opinion. Same as the title to this video, that asserts an opinion as if it’s fact. I guess it remains to be seen if the Sophia trem will become the industry standard for guitars and completely dominate the market for over 40 years. 🙄
