      The whole point is to create a "soft stop" that is super stable for chords, etc so you don't need a hard stop ... it works. works well:)

    That's actually a really cool design. Ahhh, we're almost at the point where we can have a drop-tune capable floyd that can also do pull ups in either setting without the need to modify the guitar. Of course, if you know you're going to be using one of these when you're building the guitar, you know just to route a little extra clearence for it, and unlike the D-tuna, it doesn't leave an unsightly hole when it's in standard mode. ... Actually, these might work completely in a Lion's Claw, purely because of how much space there is... Testing video when?

    • @merkaba22

      For most guitars with shallow or no recess the pulls are stable and can go up a P5, etc.

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22 Месяц назад

      Its pretty easy to learn how to get a .055-ish string through the knob, up and over the Intonation Point, etc. -- you can also load 3/8" of a string through the nose slot and lock -- the nose slot is .078 wide, so we suggest up to .075 diameter wound string as the general limit but handle a larger diameter string, if using a smaller diameter plain core though the nose slot, etc.

    • @merkaba22

      The prime update was to re-position the M4 holes, for securing the nut to the neck, to vintage-correct "asymetrical" locations -- the remainder of the line have symmetrical locations.

  • @gbferrell
    @gbferrell Месяц назад

    I am confused on how to shim the Sophia for my 12" radius neck. Could you please tell exactly which strings (Low E, A, D, G, B, High E ) need to be shimmed and how much? I know this is a subjective question, but it would help to get a general idea of where to start. I'm thinking from your chart, the G should have one .2 mm shim and the rest of the strings don't need any. I think that's what you meant in your email but instead of 'G' you said 3rd string, which would depend on which side you are counting from. Usually, the high E is considered the 1st string, but just want to make sure.

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22 Месяц назад

      We offer shims placed between the addle and the base plate, like intake locking tremolos, to alter the pre-fixed R14 radius we use on our tremolos.... shims under teh middle saddles increases the roundness and lowers the number, to say R 12 or R10 ..

    • @gbferrell
      @gbferrell Месяц назад

      @@merkaba22 Sorry, I missed your reply in our email chain: "The Sophia 2:92 is performance oriented and has an R14 specification that works well with R12 to R16 and compound radii out of the box - you can order a set of shims, placed between the macro-tuners and the base plate, to alter the radius if you prefer." So, basically, you are saying that the shims aren't absolutely necessary because the 14" radius Sophia will still work well with 12-16" radii, right out of the box and adding shims or not depends on personal preference. I mounted the tremolo last night with a .2mm shim under the G string saddle. Seems fine, but I have yet to adjust the intonation. If I'd read your email reply more carefully, I wouldn't have had to ask that question.

      Insert the supplied 2mm hex wrench into the round port next to the string slot and loosen the saddles screw and re-position to suit -- its a left handed screw, so you experience it right handed when loosening or tightening -- there is also a "safety" hex port on the head of saddle screw secured against the bottom of the base you can access when the tremolo is removed...

  • @gbferrell

    I have a Kiesel Ultra-V with a Floyd Rose Original on it. I like what I see with the Sophia 2:92 except for the extended length. I'd be worried that if I pulled up too much on the tremolo arm that the fine tuner knobs would extend beyond the cavity and dig into the guitar's finish- even without the detuner. From what videos I've seen, it would be a really close fit. Any experience with replacing FR trems with these on Kiesel Ultra V?

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22 3 месяца назад

      The Sophia 2:92 w/ macro-tuners fit most OFR tremolos with recessed cavities -- typically the recess should extend be a little less than 3" from the centerline of the risers -- we just got some custom stainless steel knobs that also introduce a shorty and a short spine version that are about .065 [incorreclty stated as .200"earlier] shorter -- the typical dimension of the end of the intonated six string macro-tuner is anywhere from 2.75 to 2.92"depending on the guitar, etc. -- the shorter knobs then reduce this length to 2.685 to 2.855 - write us at sales@cslsophia.con or visit our website sophiatremolos.com

    • @gbferrell
      @gbferrell 3 месяца назад

      @@merkaba22 That is awesome news about the shorter knobs. I measured the cavity and it extends 2-13/16" from the centerline of the risers. Thank you for updating me on that info.

    • @gbferrell
      @gbferrell 3 месяца назад

      So the 2:92 Deluxe seems to not even have fine tuners on it- is that the difference between that and the more expensive model? If so, I may be able to do with that, since my guitar already has locking tuners at the headstock, although when I custom ordered the guitar from Kiesel, they recommended I get the locking FR nut anyway, which I did. I'm afraid that if I leave the FR locking nut in place, without locking it, the string grooves might not be suited for tremolo use.

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22 3 месяца назад

      @@gbferrell Yes, the Deluxe locking saddles do not have our full-range tuners -- if you lock the strings at the nut, you cannot further tune the guitar -- the issue with the first floyd, etc. -- We suggest you get tuners for this arrangement is best since otherwise we are not sure if anyone sells a non-locking nut for the vintage locking nut shelf specifications...

    I recently ran across an interview series with Gary Kahler about the re-introduction of the Steeler tremolo platform for 2024, I was pretty stoked because the Killer is one of my favorite trem systems, only to be told that they were too expensive to produce. I proceeded to get into a heated discussion with the guy giving the interview where several suggestions were made and shot down because it 'just wouldn't work' (mostly involving simplifying the saddles because why tf do they need 13 parts each?) and that consumers are too uninformed to make worthwhile suggestions 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂. So imagine my surprise to see this wonderful piece of engineering! It's got the best things from the Killer without the convoluted (read ego stroking), has all of the 'impossible' suggestions already included and is no more expensive than the other top-line systems out there. Plus it can be use headless! Seriously well done!! I wish I would've know about this sooner. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to prepare my wallet for the beating your website is about to give it 😁😁

    Do these fit on recessed Floyd rose bridges? Or is it top mount only?

    • @merkaba22
      @merkaba22 7 месяцев назад

      In most cases, its a drop-in fit - spring block size is important: 42, 37, 34 or 32mm ... most recessed installs are 37 or shorter, depending on the thickness of the body in question, etc,:)...

      The Sophia have a built-in R14 for the string to saddle to base plate and use sims to alter the radius for best results...

    If Sophia were to Collaborate with SuperVee on a BladeRunner type version of the SUPERBLY Genius Sophia system, well, then they could probably CONQUER the World of Vibrato-Tremolos. The only thing I'm not thrilled about are worn out fulcrum edges.

      Thank you -- we get it -- tho' in the past 8 years of operation we have had no bad knife edges reported to us -- we think the GT Pro helps avoid that result.. We also have introduced premium USA made 2:92 base plates in black and custom colors since mid-2023:)

    I have an '89 Ibanez RG750 with an (Gen 1?) Edge Tremolo. It's similar to the JEM, but it does not have the 6 "finger gouges" behind the trem rout. From the post to the end of the trem rout measures 3.125", and the Edge Tremolo is recessed lower in the body the same way the OEM trem is on the JEM. Will the Sophia Tremolo fit into my Ibanez without modification to the wood, or is it too long?

    What the distance between the blades of the Sophia tremolo? Is it by chance the same as a Floyd Special? Would be a nice upgrade if it is. 😀

      he Sophia 2:92 Tremolo is a drop-in fit for the OFR tremolo you mention.. The spacing extending between the center lines of the riser posts is 2.92”, hence the 2:92 … Fender is 2.22”, hence the Sophia 2:22. ruclips.net/video/79BOARAmhsQ/видео.html
