I prepare my turkey just like you. I love putting herb butter under the skin. You guys give me hope. I'm looking forward to buying my first home and homesteading for my family. I love watching your progress. Keep up the good work. Your living the dream.
Home grown meat is always worth it! Small operations like yours are the best for these animals because they are well fed, well taken care of and are minimally stressed. Healthy, happy animals means delicious meat.
I believe he made that apparent from the beginning. In this video he states he wants one for himself and then discusses kill cones. I was left in no doubt.
Make a walk over ladder ,four or five steps on each side, and flat across the top.. (seat). We knew a farmer that had one over fence wires. Worked perfectly. Plus was nice place to sit a chill if you wanted to. And he didn't have to cut his fence.
I've been watching Sow The Land from the very beginning and you guys are killing it I love your new homestead You're moving right along with the land, in the house, and the animals and Lorraine you and Penelope have Become Pros with processing pigs ,chickens ,and now turkeys I'm loving it🤗
You need to be commended for your generosity. I noticed that your friends at Hollar Homestead that you gave one of your turkeys to them for their thanksgiving. Hopefully your feast was filled with gratitude and your Christmas will be filled with the hope that Jesus brings. For generations there was no such thing as a kill cone. As a kid we let them flop and our neighbor tied their feet together and hung them over a clothesline before cutting off their heads.
I helped a friend process 100 chickens this past Sunday … my first time doing anything like that. I was able to relate to your method while watching y’all process the turkeys in this video.
Jason, I love your hard work ethic and your sense of humor 🤣 You three are all hard working and a beautiful family. Penelope is very pretty and growing up so fast. Your Thanksgiving meal looked fantastic. Take care and God Bless. ♥️♥️
That was a very kind gift from your family to the Hollar family. It takes a lot of food for all these boys! Also, sweet that you treated your animals too.
You are so entertaining, hilarious and educational all at the same time! My only complaint is that your videos end too soon! Looks like you had a delicious Thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing.
I actually appreciate the shorter videos. Some channels have 30 minutes or longer. I rarely make it through those. I never miss Sow The Land and watch the whole way through!
We bought a organic Turkey as my body is very sensitive to store bought meats, but this 20 lb Turkey was amazing!!! Now I’ve made bone broth n tomorrow I’ll be canning up turkey soup & Broth at 8.99 a lb was a pretty penny, but my health is worth it, cant wait to get my homestead in couple yrs, n raise our own meats, been planning only a yr now to head to the Carolina’s. Love watching you all n learning, prayers n blessings to your family 🤗🙏🤗
So appreciate the share, we are now buying meat that is raised grass fed and grass finished. Eyes are open in all that goes into meat sold in stores compared to homegrown. We live in town so not able to raise our own but totally support those who do. Thank you for a great video
Those turkeys looked amazing! We’ve done turkeys as well and would never do store bought again. It’s so worth it. Looks like you had a blessed Thanksgiving.
We harvested some Bourbon red turkeys this season. It was our first time we had someone come and show us how for future reference. I have to say that the turkey size was a little disappointing. I believe they were six month old males. And they weighed in at 13 pounds. We did have one white female. No idea what breed was. She weighed in 26 pounds. Much happier with that one. Next year it will be all whites. FYI we just hung them with zip ties to a cattle panel in the garden. No cones necessary. Actually the whole process was much more simple than I thought it would be. Needless to say we will be raising our own chickens and turkeys in the spring.
There’s something so fundamentally fulfilling to the soul to raise from hatch with a happy life to the animal, a quick painless death, and harvesting you’re own meat. I loved having turkeys, they’re really fun birds to have around. I think they’re a good sustainable meat source. I think if I were to raise my own birds again I’d get a plucker. I harvested and skinned my extra roosters one year and it wasn’t as good, even if they were just for stock.
Hi..... Jason and Lorraine nice to see you love watching your videos nice butchering chicken turkey, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐣🐥🦃🐕🐄🐖🌱🌺🌹🌻🌼🌸🌷🏡🎥👍👍👍
We raised our first turkeys this year too. We just had two female turkeys but we raised them for 6 months just because we were busy and we were enjoying them. One was 18 lbs and one is 20lbs. We had the little one for thanksgiving and it was amazing! Delicious! So much lovely fat and flavor. We would do it again for sure. Love from Cali! 🤙🏼
Love this video! Thank you for the detail that other homesteaders are searching for. 🌞🌱❤️🦃. We processed our chickens on Oct 19th during a freezing morning. We learned a lot about the function of the plucker. Clogging happens so we would rinse with bio soap after a few birds. But overall we wished we would have done this on our homestead years ago. Blessings to all.
Enjoyed waiting for the premier -- loved the countdown, especially the last 10 seconds! Kudos on inventing a new turkey cone 😀 Thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving prep & day!
Happy Thanksgiving glad to see some of them made it. Home raised turkeys are the best. I hate the butchering but after the first one we did it proved worth it. And yes, grit is super important to turkeys because they will swallow everything they can get in their mouths. Also as a side note, not that it bothered me or that I don't do it too but a male, under a year old is called a Jake, over a year and it is a Tom. Females under a year are called Jenny, over a year and they are just hens.
Happy to see the finnaly of the turkeys. I'm happy you went with the heritage breed this year. I was sorry to see that you lost so many. So I'm thinking next year go with the double breastfed whites and not have to deal with birds flying out. I learned a great deal watching you folks this year. Have a great holiday season 🦃🎄🎉😋👍
Love watching you! You get so much joy and satisfaction from what you’re doing on the homestead. You and Lorraine both approach your farm jobs with enthusiasm and a sense of humor. Thanks for sharing with us.
I think raising the turkeys were totally worth it! It looked soooo good on your dinner plate. And as for the little pigs, I wouldn't eat the kale either.
I do really think you are some beautiful turkeys even though we’re going to eat them I really appreciated your beauty. I wasn’t expecting their feet to be So-o black.. that was a bit of a surprise for me. I have great respect for your ingenuity and making the turkey cone❣️❣️I didn’t think it was going to hold off to be honest but it did and I didn’t give you any trouble throughout the “fixing” process of six turkeys!! VERY IMPRESSIVE❣️ I was also very happy to see your daughter helping both of you to clean and harvest the turkeys. There’s something about doing that as a family and, she in fact probably has been doing it for years but I just liked knowing that all of you were working together for Thanksgiving as well as future meals with turkey. I could tell when you took that first bite of turkey that it was super tender. The only thing that I think a lot of people would miss by cooking it in the large”Cooker” VS. in the oven and getting a nice crispy skin that is Golden brown…That’s for me I’ll take moisture over color any day. You look like you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and I’m like you I like to save my pie/dessert for later after the meal has had time to settle. My mom always has opinion that you have the desert right now WITH the Neil, but I was always too stuffed in my stomach doesn’t like to mix sweets and savory. I’d like to wish you all a successful turkey harvesting event that was unique on this farm and I think you did a superb job and I want to wish you a belated happy Thanksgiving. I’m only sorry I didn’t get to see this before Thanksgiving day. I love your channel and keep doing what you do so well. My father did a lot of repurposing on his farm to instead of just going out and buying things. The people that even if you have the money and just go and pay $80-$100 for the Turkey cone, to me you just prove to the world that it wasn’t necessary and you could have that $80 for something else!!!! God bless you all🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Great video. Turkey.. from field to table. It looked so good. I was sick over Thanksgiving so had no turkey dinner and I am craving turkey sandwich. I will get some turkey soon. 😊💞⛄🎅🎄
Love your videos, they are so educational. There's no doubt your raising the animals for food however, you feed them the best food you all look after them with so much respect and love. Best educational video I've seen for a long time. Happy belated Thanksgiving to you all xjx
Happy Thanksgiving Guys xxx I would fly over from Australia just to taste that meal- well done to all of your just amazing xxx Cheers Denise- Australia🥰🥰🥰
Well done! Thanks so much for showing all of that! I want to raise my first turkeys next year and I'm going to try the Blue Slates. I really like how you make your own propane heater and turkey cone...amongst so many other things. I didn't know about those small refrigerators. Cool! I have been a vegetarian most of my life but have slowly started to eat meat and am starting my own farm. I have cows, pigs and chickens so far. My first piglets will be born right before Christmas. I only mention that because I really enjoyed bringing them Thanksgiving treats like you did, too. I cooked and ate my first turkey since I was ten or eleven years old (I'm 44 now). I got a 5.76 lb heritage turkey from the farmers market. Can you believe how small it was?!! But it was just right for this year and me learning everything. I think you got great weights on your birds. They looked beautiful and healthy. I also used a roaster like you did. Lots of fat came off my bird...the gravy has a big fat cap on it today. So interesting! It was a great experience for me and I can't wait to raise my own. Thanks so much for your beautiful examples always!
I'm sure your meal was delicious. I think I could smell it. Those frozen turkeys will be a delicious meal for group meals!!!! If you raised 12 turkeys to finish, you could have turkey once a month. Yummers. Smoked turkey is delicious, too. I'm thankful for you!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving 🍂🦃🍁Oh Man… What a Feast 😋 You guys had your work cut out for you. So glad you were able to Conjure up your own Turkey Cone. What a great idea… You always maneuver a way to make things work out !!! That was Fabulous 👍 Hope your Thanksgiving was Wonderfully Blessed. Thank you for including us in your Holiday. You guys are the Greatest.. Until the next one 😉💞
That was Beautiful !!! My family stuffing recipe consist of a medley of celery, carrots, mushrooms, onions, garlic and herbs combined with quinoa (Replacing the bread-crumbs)… Enjoy my Friends.
It is so interesting to see this process and thank you for showing it to us. In the interest of using everything, I'm a calligrapher and use turkey flight feathers for writing. Could I buy them from you?
"On butcher day, if you feel wet on your lip, don't lick it" - Best advice ever!
I prepare my turkey just like you. I love putting herb butter under the skin. You guys give me hope. I'm looking forward to buying my first home and homesteading for my family. I love watching your progress. Keep up the good work. Your living the dream.
Thank you for sharing and giving the Hollar Homestead a turkey for Thanksgiving. So generous and I know they were blessed.
Home grown meat is always worth it! Small operations like yours are the best for these animals because they are well fed, well taken care of and are minimally stressed. Healthy, happy animals means delicious meat.
I love your respect for the animals but leave no questions that you are raising them to be eaten, plain and simple. Thanks for educating us.

Congratulations on raising those turkeys, dispatching them and the end result looked delicious!!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Jason, I love your hard work ethic and your sense of humor 🤣 You three are all hard working and a beautiful family. Penelope is very pretty and growing up so fast. Your Thanksgiving meal looked fantastic. Take care and God Bless. ♥️♥️
We raised 3 Tom’s this year. 37 lbs, 39 lbs and 46lbs! We cooked one yesterday and it was delicious!!!
That was a very kind gift from your family to the Hollar family. It takes a lot of food for all these boys! Also, sweet that you treated your animals too.

That turkey cone was genius!
Love that it all was worth it. Those feathers have to be marketable.

One of my dreams has always been to have a troop of about ten or a dozen heritage turkeys to patrol our farm.
Jason you’re so silly and fun! Interesting to know it’s worth the time to raise your own!
Thanks for sharing a turkey with the Hollar family.
I'm so glad you had a wonderful dinner🤗 the butchering went very well to. Cold hands for sure. Those pigs and piggys loved the pumpkin🤗❤👍
You guys are awesome! Turkeys cook quicker in electric roaster than oven. Thanks for sharing turkey with Hollars!
Love the subtle humour . . . wicked thanksgiving table display. Cheers.
I love how you adapt and innovate and make a plan, like the turkey cones. Well done and my mouth was watering Lorraine!
