Just installed this into my tundra today. Also took my Tech Exam today and passed. Now I need to spend the next weeks working on how to program the radio, and just listen to traffic until my call sign is approved
I passed my tech too! It took my callsign about 3 days to show up. I will be ordering this radio as soon as I convince the wife that $300 is actually a pretty decent price point :)
I see you've gotten your call sign by now. Curious how long it took compared to the 2 weeks they tell you it will take. Also, what brackets did you use to mount in your Tundra? I passed my Tech exam this morning, and this radio is the carrot that I've dangled in front of me to keep me studying.
I'm seriously considering buying a 2730. I bought a Yaesu FT200DR last August, and this past week it quit working entirely in regard to repeater Ops. Simplex is Fine. I have reset it SEVERAL times and the problem persists. I paired it with a Handheld this morning for testing. I ket the handheld on our local Repeater-the handheld received the return signal-The FTM200 was dead Silent. I then keyed the FTM 200 on the same repeater. NEITHER Radio got a return from the repeater. I did the same test with a different antenna-Same results. Two Years ago, I had an FT-891 that Quit working entirely. I sent the Radio to Yaesu for Repair-it took TWO MONTHS to get it back. When I spoke with a Service Supervisor he all BUT called me a Liar! When I finally got the FT-891 Back, the Box looked like it had been through a Shredder. AND the Radio had SCRATCHES on it which were not there when I sent Yaesu the Radio. The Radio DID work when I got it back, but after my experience with Yaesu "Service", I immediately SOLD the Radio. I fear I will get a similar treatment if I send my FT200 to them for repair. I am going to VERY POLITELY ask my friend at the HRO store where I bought it if they can A. replace the radio right there or B. Convince Yaesu to refund my purchase price. NOTE" I DID also buy a new FT-891 when I bought the FTM200 Last August, and so far, it is operating normally. But, after these experiences, I'm willing to fork out the extra Bucks and go BACK to Icom!
I use a CAT5 Cable with a Straight Thru splitter attached to the original microphone cord & it works great.Don't waste your money on the factory ICOM extension cable.

gott the 2730 yesterday ,simplex no problem to talk but no lucky for repeaters to open have the symbol T in the display the menu are correct i think so hi thx for video 73,
One thing I have noticed about this radio and some other new radios is that they no longer have the 6 pin DIN plug. Also they do not support 9600 baud packet which is needed for VARA WIDE.
can you plug a standard ethernet extension cable into the main body and then plug the mic into it? I like the idea of the control head and a separate mic connection for sake of coiled mic cables hanging from the control head from my dash?
I noticed when you keyed up on the A band for 147.330, the B band appears to key as well. I’ve noticed a lot of 5100’s do as well. Is this normal? Thanks
The manual had a page indicating that one was for each side of the vfo. It was this weird plug one in you get this plug two you get this... plug the other one it does something else. Kinda complicated. Thanks for watching!
Great vid! Are you able to point out HOW to enter a few repeaters manually through the mic (where they could be saved to memory so when you are driving through those specific areas it auto picks up the nearby repeaters??)
I love Icom- but what is it about them that they want to overcharge for making you buy extremely expensive accessories. Cmon Icom- stop taking advantage of your customers by charging ridiculous prices on accessories such as mounting brackets.
Yeah... seems like the bracket should be included, but it would add cost to the overall unit price. I'd rather save a few bucks on a mount I don't always need. Thanks for watching!
Yaesu is the worst for that. Most expensive radio (albeit a darn nice one), but no cradle charger included, and then on top of it you have to buy the fast charge cable to use the cradle. So shitty
It is a great functional radio, but over two years of being on all the time in my shack, the display has lost its intensity and gone relatively dark. I can no longer read it from 10 feet away, and have to walk up to it to read it. I wish there was a fix for this. It is not a software problem, it is set for highest brightness and contrast, and still hard to read.
I have heard that display problem before and was wondering if it was on this. Have you been able to get it fixed? I am considering one for my first mobile.
@@brentjohnson6654 I took it all apart, cleaned it up, sprayed the wires with contact cleaner, and no improvement at all.
