  • Mälsåker Castle (Mälsåkers slott) is a manor house in Strängnäs Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden. The estate is situated in the parish of Ytterselö, north of Mariefred and northeast of Stallarholmen. It is situated on Björkfjärden, a bay on Lake Mälaren.
The main buildings were built in the 1660s and 1670s by Gustaf Soop (1624-1679), after drawings by Nikodemus Tessin, d. ä. (1615-1681). In 1839, the estate was inherited by Louise von Fersen (1816-1879). In 1853, she gambled away Mälsåker to Fredrik Åkerman (1800-1877). After his death, it changed owners several times.
It was sold in 1898 to engineer Åke Sjögren who began a restoration of the estate.
Mälsåker was bought in 1943 by the Norwegian legation in Stockholm and the premises were used in the training of Norwegian police troops during World War II. In 1945, the roof caught fire and the manor burned. In 1951, a new roof was built. In 1993, the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities (Vitterhetsakademien) initiated an extensive restoration. Since 2007 an association has been responsible for making the castle available to the public.

Funny how you said it, sailing there and seeing your home.
That's in a way what happened to me. I sailed there, pitced my tent, and in the morning I found out that it was restored by the Government company that I worked for, so being employed by the same company I got a free guide tour and was gifted a plaster replica of one of the ornament details.
While I somewhat agree about grafiti, it's still a part of history that Vikings scribed runes in Rome.

The Swedish cop "Revolver-Harry" Söderman was responsible for training the Norwegian police force living in the castle during WWII. Norway knew the cops who were still in Norway during the occupation were probably nazis, so they would need an entirely new police force after the war to arrest all the collaborators.
Harry was also the man who introduced the concept of forensics in the Swedish police force in the 1930s and started the police CSI lab. After WWII he helped West Germany to set up their new police force. I think he must have been doing some more covert work during the war, as he was knighted by Finland, Denmark and Belgium.

It looks like Moulinsart! Mälsåker was not used by the regular Norwegian Army. Sweden traineed Borwegian resistance as Police forces/militia to be depoyed in Norway if Germany did not surrender.
