Keep your grades up, try to earn a spot at the academy, keep your nose clean, and in the meantime learn all you can about flight theory and associated topics.
Your local Civil Air Patrol might be worth joining as they might be able to give you a leg up on a lot of it. They'd at least present the opportunity to fly. There is no freer feeling in the world. An AF recruiter would also be able to point you in the direction of resources and the types of things they look for.
Again.....Best of luck....Lord knows we need not just qualified, but committed men and women to serve in all branches. I truly hope you get to live your dream.

3:04 I never noticed this, but it's a great establishing character moment. Not two seconds after Maverick hears there is only one MiG, he immediately wants to merge with the guy and he tells Cougar as much - but the uncertainty in his voice suggests he wants a second opinion from a cooler-headed pilot, which Cougar provides. *"Take it easy, Maverick...."*

Saw Top Gun Maverick and must say I prefer the original. It was great, but no character back story, John Hams character was over the top 'mean' and illogical, no real backstories to get the viewer to relate more to the characters. Maverick does from conquering superhero to retired dad mom and we really have no idea where she came from or their history together.

One of the coolest things I did was tour the USS Ranger as a kid and got up close to the F-14's and got to sit in a A-7 cockpit.

I was living and working in London when I saw this and I can assure you, nothing in the world makes you more patriotic than US naval aviation.

Went to see it at Arden Fair in Sacramento on opening night. Leaving the parking lot after the show was a real testosterone experience: 200 guys all driving like low-flying F-14s.

It was pretty cool to be a kid in San Diego when this movie came out and everyone discovered Miramar. Too bad the Top Gun school left.

You have to play from the beginning for that transition from mellow to the first aircraft launch. Cinematic excellence.

The first time I saw this movie I was on a PanAm 747 from Argentina to Miami and going through some turbulence. Added a whole new dimension to the picture…
