Yes. The story is fresh. The lines in Top Gun Maverick isn’t that fantastic in the final scenes. Over emphasis on Tom Cruise.
Depends what you want. If you want pure 80s style comedy and action yes it is better. If you prefer a movie with deeper character development, better quality, more realistic movie maverick is better. Idk why people hate on the original. We wouldn't have maverick without the amazing first 1
