The GT40 has always been one of my favorites. You should definitely race the Daytona. The GT40 should take it.
THIS kind of content is SO preferable than Emelia walking into some automotive boutique and having the keys to a $200,000 supercar dropped into the palm of her hand.
The first upload I ever watched on this channel was Emelia changing the shocks on some hooptie in her parking space. The hot-rodding spirit that goes back 75 years.

Knowing Ford and being a Ford Technician all through the 90’s, I’d say you could bring the 427 all the way to 9000 rpm as long as the Rockers aren’t stamped steel, the springs are double stack and keeper’s hardened. But I wouldn’t until you’re absolutely positive that engine is properly “broke in”.
As far as a race the GT40 all day long, as long as it gets the proper traction. Yes line them up to prove it!!
Was thinking about this - that's basically a brand new engine in needs running/breaking in gently.

Pshhhh, that suckers broke in. Let it rip, maybe don't try a top speed run for another few miles... Nobody runs a race engine for 500 miles before beating on it. Hell, lots of race engines never make it to 500 miles at all.
@@grubb910ok, but the endurance race engines Ford built for Le Mans? What was the break in time for those.
The requirements for that race is closer to a car that is somewhat meant to be driven on the street but definitely on the track, and not need a rebuild every 5 miles on the engine.
@@grubb910in the racing I’m used to (dirt oval) if you get an engine built the builder usually dynos them and breaks them in for you. Granted I just got my first actual “built race engine” it was used for 2 seasons but sent back every 1100 laps to get refreshed and I got it from the original builder but all my other engines I’ve ran I bought and pieced together with the best parts I could afford at the time which one blew up after 3 seasons of running a b-mod and the 2nd I built for a steel block late model and I still run it if there’s a good steel block race and then I also would use it as a backup to run weekly super late model races if my new engine where to unfortunately give out

THAT is a nice car! You got off lightly with the break down, when I took my own kitcar out for it’s first drive the rubber drive doughnuts on the rear drive axle broke up. I had to leave my baby in a pub car park overnight before I could lay in the dirt and fix it. Back 48 years ago now. GT40 was one of my favourites.
Of course you should line them up.
I think the GT 40 takes it. There's no replacement for displacement after all.
I'm also interested in what Dean is working on now.

I was at the vintage races at Daytona a few years ago. All the beautiful sports cars running the course. Then a GT40 in Gulf livery appeared, and my comment was: "That is the most beautiful race car I've ever seen"
The smiles on your face were so genuine and huge it looked like it hurt. I did the same thing watching! This is also the only yellow car I’ve ever liked, and I was born in the 70’s. Keep it up young lady!
GT40 should and is gonna win. Hands to Ken Miles, Caroll Shelby and his chief mechanic, awesome. The '66 version and the '67 Mark IV are my favorites.

You just need to switch the rev limiter on, the switch is right between the traction control switch, and the ABS switch, under the drivers airbag

First I was stunned that Dean starts up a zero mile engine and then raps it up to high rpm while the car is sitting there. Then equally stunned when Emelia takes the same zero mile car, fires it up and then heads down the road. I certainly would have let it idle to operating temperature while in the shop to make sure the cooling system was operating properly. Also was an absolute given to check and replace old cracked radiator hoses. Hopefully the engine is not fried...

Were it me, I'd go through everything degradable now, breaklines to wiring, if its been out long enough to rot hoses it's best to do a thorough check through.

Definitely agree with this one. On an older car that hasn't had regular maintenance if it is rubber and carries a fluid whose lack means expensive damage or a crash, replace it on general principle. Cooling, brakes, fuel (don't neglect fuel--busted fuel line spraying gas over a hot engine will ruin your day, especially in a car that's hard to get out of). Also change out all fluids--oil, transmission oil, differential oil, and flush the brakes. And check the date stamp on the tires--if they're old replace them. And on brakes and fuel inspect the hard lines.

I think they did take care of fluids, seems like something both Sandy and Emelia would do, but it's unusual they didn't pick up on the engine situation.
It's the problem with busy lives, and owning old things they need to be sat with and thought through especially old cars and machines.

To be fair his point is that it isn't a GT40, it's a kit car replica - really they should refer to it by it's actual name, i.e. the name of the kit.

Love seeing the GT40 on the road. Started looking at the scenery where the breakdown took place. The Equestrian trails, made me thing Griffith Park. Then I think you went past the Railroad Museum on the right side and , yep, that is where you were at. Hope to see it on the road.

Just found your channel and your videos inspire me to finish my 1987 Buick Regal build. I am a paraplegic and I blew out my left rotator cuff and tore my bicep back in 2019 so I only have 50 percent strength in my left arm so it makes it hard to accomplish most of the work that needs to be completed. I lost my right hand man some years back in a very odd fatal questionable incident, if he were still alive the car would have been done three years ago and I do fight with depression but I do my best to stay positive. My wife would love to see the Regal completed and I would love it because the only time I feel equal is when I am behind the wheel of my car. Keep up the great video's! Thanks again!!

nice catch on the cooling, it's amazing how some people do them (had an issue with my SBC MGB, new engine, would idle all day, drive and it overheated quickly (had a reverse rotation water pump, d'oh), the GT40 might be a keeper
Really always liked gt40 but there was something I really liked about the Daytona. It was also more nice day use I think? And the blue color for sure.
This thing sounds amazing. You should change out the paddlebox for something adjustable. Might fix the space issues for your feet 😉
And a quick release for the steering wheel witch elongates the steering column. But keep it all reversible to keep it's worth up 👍 congrats on this nice ride

I have always been a Ford fan , a child of the 60's and 70's so this is a dream come true . I bet on the GT 40 because it's a badass car . My second car was a 67' fastback Mustang with a 289 4 speed borg warner toploader transmission that I absolutely loved . It was fast for the engine size and still got descent fuel mileage . Once I went from Tulsa to Oklahoma City in 1 hour and 21 minutes ( usually a little over 2 hours at 80mph ) I was following and leading a semi that was deadheading back to OKC without a trailer and we were hauling a$$ . That Mustang sounded so good with it's dual exhaust and wide open race mufflers ( had spring loaded flanges in the mufflers ) . Too bad I was a working guy and couldn't keep all my hot rods . PK
You had a sweet car, man! That combination of engine, transmission, and exhaust, must have been a blast. My childhood friends dad had a 390 Shelby cab, and once or twice a year we got a ride. That rush when he floored it still sticks, and it's a dream to own one.
Nostalgic cars weren't fast..😂 just sketchy to drive. the current model of Honda civic is much faster than all of the hero cars from the past...

A like story , A dead battery in the Lake Loise Ski Parking lot , dude boosting me hooks the terminal wrong , blows the regulator , No Aux power Turned a 65 speed limit minute drive from Banff Canada to Calgary into to 35 minutes to beat Sunfall./ darkness no lights wish ,,,I had all my cool old cars...from Trans Ams .... Capri RS 5.0 Datsun 260 Z with triple webbers to boggie Vans Yep ..and the cars we should have bought .

As far as tall people, you can move the seat forward and tilt the seat. I am only 5’-7” (or 6” now that I am older) and barley fit in my RCR GT-40. There’s plenty of legroom in this thing but the knees would be an issue with a big guy.

I have an RCR GT 40 and the steering column is low on this as well. I was going to install adjustable pedals, but the adjustment mechanism raises the pedals too much and it’s too high. So……no adjustments. The tunnel is not narrow though. There’s plenty of room width wise. I am in the process of fitting the engine and transmission at this point. Hoping to have a go cart this year and then move onto the electrical and body.

The GT40's still kickin! And I know it sounds silly, but it just LOOKS like the Daytona would win haha. It has to be really satisfying bringing a car back to life and being able to enjoy driving around your hard work. Great video Emelia. 🙂

I'm sure after our girl has redone the exhaust the GT40 will sound fantastic. Although I think swapping in a voodoo with the flat plane crank would be cool.

A wreck one or a half decent beaten up F40? A average condition F40 is $2-3mill+ a perfect one that’s a different millions of dollars story.

That brings me back those days of buying car magazines, the F40 and the Porsche 959 on the cover of Performance Car. I just gave away a large stack of those and books to my ~11 year old (I think ) first cousin once removed. He's about as mad about cars as I have been since that age.

Like you, I learned the hard way that any "garage find" or otherwise un-driven for long long periods car will need many things replaced. The rubber dry rots so easily, suspension bushings, hoses, belts, etc. You're best off just replacing them, and looks like making sure they're going to the right places is also important in your case.

I worked on the GT40 project back in 2005-2006, never got to drive one, but programmed the robotics that built parts of the car :) out of Sandusky, Ohio

Glad you got it figured out early. Can' wait to see Dean driving it! I have both a Daytona and GT40 with the same horsepower. The GT40 is faster because as you said it's lighter. Both are awesome cars!
