Funny enough, I also was born in the former Soviet Union and the Montero was my family's first car in Canada. Car was bulletproof for 7 years of ownership. Can be a great offroader with a few mods. At least now I understand why this channel is called Tavarish/Tovarish.
@@yungdolphin9130 You do realize that Soviet union was 2x the size population of modern Russia? Do you really think that all the other nations that had to suffer for 50 years long oppression by russians would like to be called russian? Please be more careful with your words, and avoid making statements about issues without a sufficient amount of knowledge.
I call BS on not being able to find tyres for the Montero. Some of the other stuff he mentioned-yes, they might be on back order or hard to find, but he could have easily thrown some off road tyres on the Mitsubishi from a number of shops.
The tire shortage in certain areas is no joke! Tire shops are paying employees to drive a state or two over paying over msrp just to have common sizes for emergency inventory!
I might not comment on alot of videos but. I have watched all your videos from the very first one. Freddy you have absolutely proved. That anyone can have anything they want and dream about no matter where they have came from. If you keep working hard enough for it and never give up on your dream. You show people that in every video. I cant tell you enough how happy I am for you and from the bottom of my heart I really mean that man.
It just amazes me, how we actually got multiple replacements for Top Gear after the lads left. The Grand Tour has been far better than expected, although not flawless. And then you have Car Trek, which is exactly the kind of shennanigans I missed from the old Top Gear. The fact that most of the cars are used, mostly affordable cars that most of us can relate to, is such a bonus. The chemistry and rivalry between the three is just perfect, plus all the beloved "characters" that keep popping up, like The Wizard, Jared, John Temerian, just to mention a few! Car Trek has been amazing since the first episode, and I am so happy it wasn't just a one-and-done deal, we the viewers have been blessed with multiple seasons, far beyond what I would have ever dreamt would happen! I hope you keep'em coming boys! It's been one heck of a ride so far, and I'm not ready to get off yet!
I wonder if they ever realised the Monteros’ seat fold flat and make a bed? Or the tool kit is in the rear door and Jack is behind the rear passenger wheel arch.
For the year that they have, the jack was actually beneath the rear seat, and as for the tools I don't know the stock location, but I've always had them in a bag near the jack. I believe they changed it when they did a "redesign" of the gen three's. You are correct about the location, but if memory serves me right that is only true about the early gen three's. One way to tell is the fog lights, the early ones has a bit of a squareish shape, while the newer redesign has the circular fog lights (like in the video). I believe that they switched up the design in 2002-2003, although my numbers might be off.
I'm laughing so hard! The chemistry between you guys is fantastic and I felt like I was just hanging out as a member of this madness! At first I thought this was just a joke channel, but nah, you guys really know you stuff as well.
I have a stock standard 3.8 V6 Pajero/Montero/Shogun in the middle-east. The road tires and ground clearance (due to the large rear overhang) are really the only limitations. I take the rear bumper off for desert driving. Makes a huge difference!!
before you do that, I want you to get some savings. Take a 5-gallon pail and throw money into it. You don't have to do it all in one shot, but slowly as you get paid start filling the pail with various denominations. When the pail is full, take it outside, add a pint of gasoline and light it on fire. Its the same feeling Porsche owners feel but it saves you a trip to the DMV to register one plus its only one upfront cost. You're welcome
@Tavarish - It was great to hear your family story and the connection to the Montero. My Dad drove a diesel GLX Paj for over 15 years and took it all over Australia. Went everywhere my 12H-T 60 Series went and had very few issues (just a few aftermarket parts issues) and in the later years it towed a caravan around for him and Mum as well. The right rubber, a good bullbar and the right springs and shocks made it almost unstoppable. Almost 400,000kms on it now as it sits in my shed now awaiting a resto at some point.
I had pretty much the same one as Freddy, with the right rubber it's a good off roader, not in the same category as the Jeep of course, but a heck of a lot more comfortable. The only real issue was the 200hp V6, nowhere near enough power for the weight of the SUV.
This is what top gear has evolved to. And I’m here for it. Y’all were all on point with this car trek. Funny jokes. Great content and info. Def my favorite one so far.
That Cayenne S is awesome 👍. It also has the ability to lock the all the drive wheels together. Full locker from the factory! The second gen got rid of that.

Tyler’s comment about someone selling a car for reason is such a good point. It makes me understand why he would rather buy a cheap, known to be broken hooptie and pay to sort it rather than buy a “nice example” that costs a lot more and stands to break very soon
The fact they cheated and used cars they already owned made this whole thing a waste of time... let’s see them all actually follow a budget and not be douchebags
the jeep 4.0 is a solid motor. I've seen them run 300-400k all day with just oil changes. Its a shame the Montero broke, its a solid and capable vehicle with a couple mods. Even with the miles on it I'd put a new motor in it all day long with as clean as the body is. The Porsche is just a hole to throw money in.
Tyler made me laugh so hard with his rendition of My milkshakes.... when he looked in Freddie's overflow tank Ed looked to have enjoyed that quite well too
RUclips had JUST cut for commercials before this moment and showed a sonic ad for their milkshakes and that song was playing. Then this comes back on and Hoovie sings that and I almost died laughing
I didn't think I'd enjoy the trail vehicles but then I realized this show is more about the guys involved, and that's why it ended up being great anyway! Keep it up guys!
The Pajero/Montero was one of my dad’s dream car, especially that year range. Unfortunately there just isn’t that many of them around so we ended up with a MDX
My Dad and I travelled most of Australia, him in his Paj and i in my 60 Series. The Paj was a diesel and never missed a beat, went everywhere the Cruisasaurus went and burnt less diesel. The Paj is a great 4X4 and I am surprised to see Freddy managed to find one with a dying donk.
I was looking for a 3-row SUV and the Montero was my top choice due to its off-road prowess, but ended up getting a Pilot instead because I wanted a fold down 3rd row, not a removable 3rd row. Still kinda wish I got it instead, only had that pilot for like 6 months before trading it in after dealing with the common transmission issues.
i took my drivers license exam in my moms 2004 montero limited. black with the premium 6 spoke wheels.. beautiful interior. great look. would not mind having one again
Aside from driving in the bike lane, throwing car parts in the woods, and Freddy trying to coax Tyler in his Montero because he has an extra 6" in the back it's a great show! lol
That's pretty amazing to hear the story of your family coming to America and making things happen for yourself! Congratulations on all your hard earned success Freddy!
The fun of driving with the top down on a Jeep. He has learned the lesson of keeping the parts for the top in the Jeep. Also if you needed parts for your Jeep. Always go to a Jeep forum, so much easier to get the parts.
One nice thing about hybrids or electrics is that they can hold the speed on cruise control going down steep hills, by recharging the batteries. Very convenient when we were recently on wolf creek pass in a hybrid Sienna, never had to use the brakes, cruise control maintained same speed WITHIN 1 MPH going up and down.
in all fairness to freddie, I've been offroading in a Pajero just like his with some mild springs and worn all terrains, it cleared all the same obstacles as the hilux and the trials truck we had
To be fair hilux is the most overrated vehicle in history and isn't that great off road stock apart from the latest model. The montero/pajero is acres ahead of the hilux off road and these guys don't know shit bout the pajero. Pajero is one of the best vehicles ever produced in history
WOW! My mind is blown! Ed actually followed all the rules, like that literally sounds like as if Mr Bean was to break in to the Pentagon. And man Freddy`s backstory on the Montero sounded truly inspiring. This season of Car trek or the American top gear that never happened, truly is my favorite season of car trek. All the hype was totally worth it.
This was my parents first "new car" too when we came to USA. (it was like 2-3 years old when they got it) I still remember this car too. Miss it. I almost got one for myself last year, but I was too worried about gas mileage. So I went to look at a Porsche Cayenne like Eds. I was a bit unimpressed... long story short...should have gotten a Montero or a Cayenne I ended up in a 2004 Subaru Forester XT... that I had for a year and sold to my dad. Now I got a 2006 BMW X5 (3.0L) that I pretty much almost completely rebuilt the motor... only has 66k miles on the clock though lol. I actually think the Jeep was the most boring LOL. That Tacoma series was pretty cool.
Me: Laughs when Tavarish's coolant is boiling.
Also Me: Cries when it's the same colour as mine in my Celica.
Great series. Pajeros or Monteros are great cars, they were underestimated there
Only thing is their rust issue
@@henrik1743 Mine isnt too bad
@@henrik1743 had one and no rust issue. It probably depends if you drive it on salted roads and never wash it off afterwards.
20:28 Ed getting fed up with Freddy's crying was probably one of the best parts 😂😂😂😂
I think everyone will be pretty impressed on how capable the Cayenne is off-road. I love mine and with the new aftermarket support, these are gonna be crazy builds. Can’t wait for the next episode!
anything is capable with enough mods
@@rdmz135 debatable 😂
Love hearing the story about Freddy's family coming to the US. You are loved here and I am so thankful your parents made the difficult decision to immigrate to the US. Teared up a little bit. Happy holidays and merry Christmas to the entire CarTrek team.
I agree. Hearing Freddie's back story added a nice personal element to an already great show. 👍

Loving that orange on the 957! We've been working on our Turbo 957 project for almost a year now and as with most European cars they can be a slippery slope of problems/costs, but with enough maintenance and love damn do they become capable, reliable, off road monsters! We hope to see you gents on the trails some day soon.
And when you need parts, you buy it from a place called FCP Euro. Too bad they aren't in Canada :(
My wife has a 2006 S. I put on a bit more rugged tires that are just a bit larger than stock. It is awesome... In all conditions.
Glad FCP Euro exists, makes it so much easier for me to maintenance my cars properly. Especially having you guys as a piece of mind when I'm out trailing in my 957 CS 😂
THE LEGENDS FCP euro! Everyhing you need to know about maintenance of German cars especially the 957 Cayenne (That i happily own due to FCP euro GTS Cayenne 957) they have everything you need they are the professors of these cars! Glad to see you here brothers!
No 957 for me - yet. That said, FCP Euro is awesome. They are my BMW resource.
TYLER JUST summarized the Ancient Used Car Dealer Mantra at 17:13!! Well DONE!
As a fellow mitsubishi owner (2003 lancer 5 speed) I have a similar nostalgic bias toward it and respect him and his family making it in the US. Much respect tavarish
I was afraid these were going to be released weekly. Pretty awesome that it's been daily!
Funny enough, I also was born in the former Soviet Union and the Montero was my family's first car in Canada. Car was bulletproof for 7 years of ownership. Can be a great offroader with a few mods. At least now I understand why this channel is called Tavarish/Tovarish.
Montero = Russian immigrant car
@@yungdolphin9130 You do realize that Soviet union was 2x the size population of modern Russia? Do you really think that all the other nations that had to suffer for 50 years long oppression by russians would like to be called russian?
Your brain is not able to comprehend the amount of suffering russians have caused to millions of people over centuries and they still continue to do it today, and you dare to insult refugees that are running to save their lives by associating them with the very thing they are running away from???
Please be more careful with your words, and avoid making statements about issues without a sufficient amount of knowledge.
I call BS on not being able to find tyres for the Montero. Some of the other stuff he mentioned-yes, they might be on back order or hard to find, but he could have easily thrown some off road tyres on the Mitsubishi from a number of shops.
Working for a national tire chain most conmen sizes are rather difficult to get. You’d be amazed
I agree, they should've given the Pajero proper offroad tyres and idk if they got it from some random place.
I was actually coming in here to say the exact same thing 🙄lots of parts for these Montero/Pajero
Find a USED tire shop, the would have everything!
Love the montero I wished you modified it but for a stock vehicle its pretty capable and comfortable
Yea, sadly they bought some with blew headgasket and went offroad with road tires.. Thats dumb
@@romaniusv ikr mitsubishi pajeros monteros are reliable im from the Caribbean and I have one its a tank
It's like having the classic Top Gear back! Love this.
Yes.......exactly like Top Gear. EXACTLY lol. 🤣😉
I wonder if they ever realised the Monteros’ seat fold flat and make a bed?
Or the tool kit is in the rear door and Jack is behind the rear passenger wheel arch.
lmao
For the year that they have, the jack was actually beneath the rear seat, and as for the tools I don't know the stock location, but I've always had them in a bag near the jack. I believe they changed it when they did a "redesign" of the gen three's.
You are correct about the location, but if memory serves me right that is only true about the early gen three's. One way to tell is the fog lights, the early ones has a bit of a squareish shape, while the newer redesign has the circular fog lights (like in the video). I believe that they switched up the design in 2002-2003, although my numbers might be off.
Damn. That would've been nice if they did realize this
I'm laughing so hard!
I would LOVE to get my hands on that Cayenne. Perfect choice Ed!
I just fell in love with that Porsche. Looking at that I feel that’s gonna be my next car. Or at least one similar
That’s what happens to me- bought one 4 months ago
I'm not in love with it but I'd buy it a drink and try to f@€k it. ...it's a joke, relax
before you do that, I want you to get some savings.
Yeah it looks really good.
I’d love to see Tavarish take that Montero, engine swap a Cummins 4BT into it, lift it and make an expedition/rally style build.
Dream build😁
Would a 4bt fit?

This is what top gear has evolved to.
And I’m here for it.
Y’all were all on point with this car trek.
Funny jokes. Great content and info.
Def my favorite one so far.
That Cayenne S is awesome 👍. It also has the ability to lock the all the drive wheels together. Full locker from the factory! The second gen got rid of that.

There are a lot of beautiful areas in the US, and especially in the west where the mountains are. If you ever have the good fortune to make a trip over here its worth driving across to see it in person.
This series is competing with the grand tour and doing really well if not better with a fraction of the budget. Happy holidays!
One of the reasons I prefer this to the grand tour series!
well the grand tour makes one episode every 1.5 years if that so

I love your story from when you were a kid. Now you've got an entire garage full of crazy supercars!
Perfect timing! Breakfast and Car Trek is the perfect combo
I had 2 of those vehicles. Cayenne had many issues. But the Montero/Pajero was flawless.
Plus, if you pronounce "Pajero" with the Spanish/soft J, it sounds like an insult... "You f***in' Pajero, you!!"
The Montero is the most underrated SUV of the last 20 years. Like if you agree.
Tyler’s comment about someone selling a car for reason is such a good point. It makes me understand why he would rather buy a cheap, known to be broken hooptie and pay to sort it rather than buy a “nice example” that costs a lot more and stands to break very soon
This series of videos is the best commercial Ive ever watched. My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard had me rolling. Love that Porsche.
This is my favorite Car Trek episode. I empathize with Tyler in having a mangled soft top in the colder months.
You guys are genius for this show. Appreciate your hard work.
I have to admit, i really love the way the Cayenne looks!
When you said it was 45 and you were trying to put the top on. I laughed so hard. I remember putting the top on my 2006 wrangler in the cold
Ed’s Cayenne is the best car of the season! Badass
I'm really impressed by Ed this time. Tyler and Freddy both cheated out of their (wallets) minds and he's still got such a good setup.
Ed taught them how to do it in previous Car Treks. Now the student has become the master
Id like to see something similar with specific brand loyalty, see which OEM's have the most diverse lineup
Ed calling an SUV a truck is so infuriating
Tyler made me laugh so hard with his rendition of
My milkshakes.... when he looked in Freddie's overflow tank Ed looked to have enjoyed that quite well too
RUclips had JUST cut for commercials before this moment and showed a sonic ad for their milkshakes and that song was playing. Then this comes back on and Hoovie sings that and I almost died laughing
Best series to date. Absolutely love it !!
This show gives me that warm and fuzzy Xmas feeling at 24 years I’ve been missing running to my tv to watch!
The OFF-ROADERS episode (this) was my favourite by far haha
Ed is a legend. Love watching everything he does
I didn't think I'd enjoy the trail vehicles but then I realized this show is more about the guys involved, and that's why it ended up being great anyway! Keep it up guys!
Best Car Trek yet!!!! Ed, Freddy & Tyler make it so much fun!!!! Merry Christmas guys!!!! 🎄⛄🤶
They just keep getting better with every series!

I had a Montero when this gen came out and drove it 180,000 miles. One of the best off roader I've had!!! But I had good tires haha

The fun of driving with the top down on a Jeep. He has learned the lesson of keeping the parts for the top in the Jeep. Also if you needed parts for your Jeep. Always go to a Jeep forum, so much easier to get the parts.
The perfect series to fill the Grand Tour void in my heart.
Nice to see a Montero Freddy🙏🏾. I've had 4 and planning on a 5th one.
CarTrek for Christmas is all I need!
Good to see that Ed's taste in vehicles is as good as his taste in shirts.
CarTrek is literally the best thing on RUclips.
That jeep is literally my dream car… I would do anything to have that 😭

This is epic content 👌 keep it up guys 👍👍
Love the series! Keep them going!
I wish I had found this sooner. This has more of a Top Gear feel than any non-OG trio Top Gear.
Tyler is definitely the Hammond of the Trio. 😂
