    I find it odd that Maserati's heritage is praised, and they mention their history in motorsports, while there is no mention of the Corvette being the longest continuously produced model sports car(since 1953) and the Corvette Racing team has been the most dominant sports car racing team in the world for the last 25 years. The amount of race wins and championships against Europe's best is staggering. They have regularly beaten Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and others with dominant fashion. But I guess people only realize things they WANT to realize!

Hard to have a fair comparison, when they leave out certain details. "Let's talk about all of the racing history of Euro-brand whatever. Corvette racing history... Nah, we're just going to quietly ignore that, and find something to complain about."

      I'm pretty used to this kind of thing from European reviewers. Still, I think this guy gave it a fair shake, if incomplete. The European channel I trust the most is Misha Charoudin. He calls it as he sees it 100%. He generally favors the European cars on the Nürburgring, but was pretty stunned by the Z06. Said it would be Car of the Year if he had to call it today. Funny about the seats though. He thought the GT2 trim seats were too comfortable, but lacking in bolstering for the level of performance. Also said it was easy to drive fast around the track. The opposite of what this reviewer said.

      @DroneStrike1776 completely agree with you, ferrari has their own track where they test their cars and don't do lap times on the nurburgring which is considered the golden standard for track cars, either ferrari is too arrogant to do so or their cars are just not as track capable as they claim them to be which is likely the case, because if you are so confident that your car is an extremely track capable car why not advertise its good lap times where all cars compete? Doing so will also boost their sales. Even the corvettes are tested there these days confirming that they are capable track machines.

    As an owner of a 2023 Z06 convertible, I disagree that it's uncomfortable... I drove my new car from Alabama to Miami nonstop, 10.5 hour drive, super comfortable and I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs. Honestly the Z06 is incredible on every level, so happy with it. I'll add that even a used MC20 convertible will cost over $100K more than a new Z06 convertible. I like the looks of the MC20 a little better, but the sound, performance, tech and price of the Z06 win. In terms of speed, look at Car & Driver's Lightning Lap review from 2023 and the leaderboard - the Z06 is the 6th fastest of all time, only beat by a small time margin by a Senna, GT2 RS Weissach, new GT3 RS, etc. The Z06 is performing at supercar levels.

      Also the ZR1 is not going to have the Z06 motor, it wouldn't be good for longevity, it'll go back to being cross-plane crank low revving engine. I don't mind that. What I am bummed about is the fact it's confirmed to be twin turbo charged, I wish it was supercharged instead cause I love that signature American supercharged engine whine.
      Zora could be too expensive and kind of unattainable like the Ford GT (you'd need to be invited to buy it) to be honest, I'd like to be wrong though.

      @@johnmuzic3475 I have thought about the ZR1, but honestly I think i'll stick with my Z06 because I really love the naturally aspirated engine and sound, and 670 HP is plenty to have fun on and off the track. The new ZR1 will surely be faster on track and the crazier car, but sometimes you hit a sweet spot and for me the Z06 convertible is it. I'd always wanted a 458 Ferrari and this is like the evolution of that car.

    I traveled with my dad to pick up his new Z06. It does not have the Z07 package but man that thing is a beast. He’s owned the Ferrari F8 and a Ferrari 458 and I will say the Z06 is funner for me to drive. The F8 is insanely fast but it has a muted experience. The Z06 is just raw. He’s also had the GT3, turbo s and R8. The only one I found to be a funner drive than that Z06 is the GT3. Especially for the money the corvette takes the cake.

  • @rwilson4073
    @rwilson4073 13 дней назад +78

    I do think the motorsports heritage of the Corvette, particularly the Z06 is also worth a mention. The father of the corvette was a 2 time Le Mans winner who built the cars around his racing experience.
    The Z06 was born with the C2 corvette in the 60s as an RPO code for a race-ready track modified corvette.
    In the modern era over the last 25 years, Corvette Racing has been a dominant force in GT motorsports.
    8 consecutive American Le Mans series championships
    9 Le Mans class wins including 4 1-2 finishes over a 5 year stretch
    127 races won
    Even today the Z06 shares development and parts with its GT racing counterparts and was developed with the help of corvette racing drivers, so it has plenty of racing heritage of its own.

    I got to drive both in the past 6 months, I spent a lot of time with the MC20 in particular.
    The Z06 is definitively the more well-rounded car if you ask me. I find it just as comfortable as the other C8s (which is very comfortable for me)
    And the whole time I truly felt as though I was simply lacking too much skill to unlock the true potential of that car.
    The MC20 is a phenomenal GT and makes all kinds of fun induction noises. And it's actually a pretty confidence inspiring car to drive, even in the wet. But lacks the practicality and dailyability of the Z06. The storage space in nonexistent and has very basic software. It's quite the looker and is insanely fast. But I find it hard to justify the MC20 over a used Huracan unless you just want to be different.

      Ford GT has a 3.5 V6. Costs 3.5 X more than the MC20.
      Ferrari 296 GTB also has a V6 and costs about £90k more than the MC20.
      McLaren Artura costs £20k more.
      Classic cars like a Porsche 959 cost between £1.5m to £2m and a Ferrari Dino between £350k and £400k.

      @markw9512 8 дней назад +2

      @@Shad0w_Tech actually, Coventry Climax of the UK was the first company in Europe to use the FPC engine in a racing configuration in modern times, nearly two decades before Ferrari adopted the platform. Also, Alfa had one out before Ferrari. Ferrari have always been more adapters than inventors, though there are of course some exceptions as with all auto companies. The reason they switched to turbo charged engines is because it’s very difficult to make a flat plane crank that is reliable larger than the ceiling they were at, about 4.6 L, producing the kind of horsepower per liter they got out of it. Ford took a stab at it in the Shelby, but they did not use the same firing order as a regular flat plane crank and did not achieve the high high horsepower per liter of a Ferrari. Nobody else has built one as large as the Chevrolet has built for the Z06, which is the most powerful naturally aspirated production V8 produced to date. This was an impressive feat of engineering, no matter how you slice it.

    Corvette has been tossing around the idea of going to a mid-engine layout since the early 1960s. Zora Arkus-Duntov himself wanted to do it but polls showed that the public preferred the typical front engine, rear drive setup and Chevrolet management wanted to sell cars more than they wanted to compete in the supercar market. Also, "silly" doors (as you put it) are so geriatric at this point. I get the practical application but to say they make a car look more stylish is like calling gray hair and liver spots sexy.

The three Maserati brothers spent the winter months of 1926 at their via Emilia Levante headquarters in Bologna, working on what would become the first car they would build themselves. Legend has it that Mario went walking around Bologna, and at the very end of Piazza Maggiore came across the statue of Neptune. The god of the sea was holding his three-pronged spear in his hand: the trident. Mario’s idea to use it for the Maserati symbol was very well received. Nettuno is currently the V6 engine name

      The problem with doing this. Always copying. Like Cadillac uses BMW M5 cars to benchmark against, and other cars too. The problem with it is that youre always playing catchup. Youre always behind. Because guess what. BMW and Ferrari are also developing while America is copying.

You can't just say, "Oh, it has a flatplane DOHC V8" because that's not a Ferrari invention. They literally copied it from Coventry Climax. There were already American DOHC flatplane V8s before Ferrari even existed, like the Ford GAA in the WW2 M4 Sherman and the Supercharged Novi V8 used in the Indy 500 back in the 40s. And Corvette Racing has dominated Porsche and Ferrari since the late 90s in sports car racing, winning more races and championships than any other manufacturer backed team.

      It is a very strange comparison. I guess he was looking for the cheapest "traditional" supercar to compare with the Z06. Cars like the 296 and 750s are about 3 times the price and in a higher performance tier. I'd say Porsche's lineup is the best comparison for the Corvette's, because it comes in at a smaller price gap and offers a lot of similar performers.
      The 992 GT3/GT3 Touring is the clear and direct competitor to the C8 Z06 imo, both high strung, race-derived NA engines, and both track-focused versions of their similar performing base cars. Overall track performance is also similar, with the Z07 equipped Z06 generally placing with or above the GT3 depending on the layout of the track. Both cars also try to retain daily drivability and creature comforts, so they line up fairly well, although Porsche offers a manual and a slightly more premium interior (although at decently higher price)

      Benchmarking is not copying. Ferrari did not invent the flat plane crank V8 (in fact that was first mass produced by none other than Cadillac, in 1918), nor did it pioneer its usage and racing applications, which was done by Coventry climax in the 1950s, well before Ferrari ever built one (doubtlessly, they benchmarked the Climax when they did). Also, Alfa Romeo built an FPC V8 prior to Ferrari, so I guess they copied from them too right?

If you don't want a carbon fiber tub made by an F1, F3 and IndyCar constructor since 1981 (Dallara), then save the money and buy the Corvette.
