@@dotinsideacircleIt's not needed digitally. Shooting digitally and with film is completely different. UV light doesn't affect sensor in digital cameras. Film doesn't block UV light so a UV filter is necessary.

Ekene Uchenwa Oh I’m certain it could, but I don’t have an iPhone X. I still rock an iPhone 7plus. I still do have ambitions of buying an actual camera.

Cool explanation on the filters! I thought you guys would also mention the effect the polarizer has on the shades of blue of the sky, but no... depending on your position in relation to the sun, you can get nearly black gradient sky because of the CPL.
I know your guys video is great but one thing! I was watching your video for the updates to the moment app ( iOS for video) and I just want to say I am glad you guys are working on it for android, and I know you will make it as high quality as possible! This comment is from someone who likes to make videos and is a future galaxy S10 owner. Can't wait for that new moment case! 😁👍🏻
Great video! Perfect timing for this video on filters for me. I’d love to see you guys put together some kits with lenses and filters as starter kits and add on kits.
Most professional photographers don't use a UV filter because they don't serve a photographic purpose. UV light is an issue with film but not digital. Digital sensors have no problem processing UV light. Any mishap likely to damage your filter will likely also damage your lens and if your filter is damaged, they become a real PITA to remove.
What the heck is that GIMBAL!?!?! IT LOOKS SO COOL AND USEFUL! I have an EVO Pro. But it's one handed(for the most part). I love the dual handles on that thing!
You guys are awesome. You really help out people that love filmmakering/photography even just as a hobby. I like turning heads when I just want a day at the park and decide to throw on my wide or 58 telephoto lenses. People always ask and it’s kind of a great conversation starter.
This will help me in an upcoming article for a publication I have qued to do very soon. And I need those filter and a couple of lenses in my LIFE! For now I put my savings into getting a Gimbal, but as expected, Gimbals are not for Run-and-gun style event video makings that I do and I will have to find quicker DIY solution to stabilize my handset.
Ey guys! I got a question for the CPL filter...you have said that it’s really usefull for car photography but do you think it would work for glass/plastic facade buildings ? Thank you so much ! I really love your job ! 💪🏽💪🏽 best wishes from Spain
Great video guys, pretty easy to understand for those new to filters in general and a good refresher for others. Are the CPLs you sell stackable with the ND filters just as the NDs are stackable with each other? Thanks!
Thanks - I love CPL filters and use them for still photography - on cameras! I don't think I'd bother with my iPhone and Moment lenses as I rarely use that combination for serious still photography (not a criticism) and for video if one pans the polarizing effect would change in mid-shot. BTW I will be purchasing the anamorphic.
What filter is needed (if any) when recording a marching band during halftime on an outdoor football field with stadium lights? It is usually dark outside during halftime, but the stadium lights light up the field.
Thank you guys so much. I always had the app, and been watching and following you guys for years now. I love the companies concept and I do plan to buy some of your lenses and now filters. Thanks so much.
thank you thank you thank you! i've always been so confused about what specifically these do! the CPL filter brought me to awe when you could see through the water to the rocks and how to flattened the image on the car. That was amazing! I enjoy making films so I'll start saving up for the variable filter and the CPL filter! :) thank you moment! :)
Hey. You guys left out the granulated ND. It’s the only other filter that I care about besides the CPL. Granulated NDs are great for landscape photos. You can keep the grass bright green while darkening the sky to make it solid blue. And the result actually looks much better than HDR or post processing afterwards.
@Moment how many filters can you stack on an anamorphic lens before the corners begin to darken as mentioned at 5:37? Will this happen if you combine an ND filter with a CPL on anamorphic too? Thanks! :)
Anyone seriously considering shooting narrative work, should also educate themselves about diffusion filters. It's basically a filter that smoothes out the extra sharpness that a digital sensor produces and makes an image look more natural. Google Tiffen Black Pro-mist and you can learn about other diffusion filters they produce as well on a special page with test videos illustrating the effect with different filter grades. Almost all of them are available in 62mm diameter.
Not sure if I missed you saying this or not, but am I to understand that the same fillers you use & show here can also be used on a DSLR? sorry if its dumb Q
I love the filters, grateful for the video info, but with an S9+, which is VERY limited in what the you can do in the Moment app, ( and Filmic ) I'm not so sure I'm ready to spend the money..yet. I already have all three lenses, and was very interested in some filters, but since the S9+ really wont let apps do anything even close to what you guys can do, ( bring shutter speeds down that low, etc..) so I'm already feeling like I may have invested alot in gear that wont be able to be used to its full advantage. Thanks for the vids.. I'm learning alot....
🙋🏻♂️ Hello!!! Thank you very much for the video explaining the filters. It is very useful. And thanks in general for all the valuable content you do for the community of people who take photos and videos with a mobile phone. greets and keep going! 😍👍
Just to add. UV Filters are no longer needed, not in digital at least, as for film that depends on the film type you use. There is something that is built into every sensor called a "hot mirror" filter, that filters out UV and IR light. without it, you wouldn't have a discernible image. Dont worry though, I've seen the same thing written in world class books for some reason.
@@bobbooms5926 I wouldn't recommend it as there is tapered slots for it to fit as the wide lense has kind of a hood built into the rim. The mount has little slits where it holds that part in the mount

You don't need a UV filter with digital cameras but it's a must when shooting film stock outside. Your camera's sensor already blocks UV light.
