- Driving along Highway 95, about 40 miles outside of Las Vegas, I came upon a familiar face: Bob's Big Boy. This iconic restaurant is the proud inventor of the first double-decker hamburger. Some say it's even better than the Big Mac.

That one sure looked a LOT better than the crap our McD's slings.
I MISS Bob's Big Boy soooooo much!
I thought the only surviving location was Burbank, California.
This place was my mom's first job at 17 in Glendale, Ca. then I grew up eating there all over the Los Angeles area locations. That burger tastes DIFFERENT from any other burger on Earth. Not to mention that secret Seasoned Salt they put on the fries and the Hot Fudge cake! So glad it survives elsewhere but my ultimate DREAM would be for somebody to bring the restaurants BACK!
My dream too. I grew up at BB on birthdays and special days. There was a great one in Fort Worth, Texas, on University by TCU. But, it's gone now. Oh the good ole' days ...
@@PoeLemic Let's raise a glass of Cherry Coke (with REAL cherry juice) for Bob's Big Boy and the good ol' days.
@@whutzat Well, I just raised my "Zero Sugar" Root Beer (no "diet" in any cokes nowadays) to what you say, my Friendo. Yes, I miss the damned good ole' days too.
@@whutzat And, what's funny ... is that I didn't expect to see so many days. I'm not old but I'm closing to knowing what "getting old" feels like. But, still very healthy and happy.
@@elgatoconmota1320 Cool! Thanks for the info.
Wow, ive been around in America... but i never found a Big Boy :-)
Bobs a big boy now! I always used to say that after i started working there and eat i did that main burger of theirs with mashed potatoes & gravy was my favorite and i used to work faster just before my break, LOL!
Hwy 95 also goes through lewiston, id on way to spokane lived in lewiston speaking of theres effies tavern in town for anyone who goes through there they serve plate sized burgers
Wow, I didn't know that the BBB's burger was cloned by McDonald's. I used to go to a Big Boy in Fort Worth up on University. I always asked parents to go to BB on my birthdays.
Great video. Please post more often!
McDonalds was like let’s do the same but put a bunch of other toxins in the ingredients
What a beautiful place
Bobs big Boy statue was made by my father Bill Swan along with many other iconic fiberglass statues which are in my Amazon book for only 14.99 it's called "The man behind the mufflerman ".
Thanks for sharing! I think logos and mascots are an underappreciated art form. We see them every day and rarely do people think about who originally designed them.
She really came here just to promote her book
We have frischs big boy where I live
I love their chili
G upload daily 🙄
What year were you born
Ah, so you originally made a clone… of a clone.
Interesting…
Exactly.
A "little bit different"?! ... c'mon! The sauces between the two burgers are COMPLETELY different.
Big Boy's sauce is tomato based (thus the RED color), whereas Macca's sauce is almost a Thousand Island dressing...
Both sauces are polar opposites of each other, but McDonald's found the perfect sauce/burger combo.
The sauce used at my local big boy is more of a thousand island type sauce
@@DunnRightVideos... yeah, there were/are three kinds of sauce put on the Big Boy, depending on the region you live in:
The original made by Bob himself was basically Heinz Chilli Relish mixed with Ketchup, but he would also put mayonnaise on the burger.
Then as the company grew, an "official" sauce was created, basically combining the relish and the Mayo (along with other ingredients like A1 sauce and Worcestershire sauce)... this is the thousand Island sauce you grew up on. (I have the complete recipe for this)
This was also the sauce that McDonalds ripped off, making a very similar style of sauce for their Big Mac.
And the third variant was a tartar sauce... white, or cream in color, made by the Frisch Brothers...
