It's an amazing place. I was invited by the joint chief of Staff for the Air Force and went to his office as well as to other off limits areas. It was amazing. As tragic as 9/11 was, it showed how stupid they were attacking that building. Even if they had hit all 5 sides of that building, the command center would still be operational. But I'll always remember that it's the only place in the entire military that you don't salute when outside in the center area.
there are a lot of non salute areas. I’ve never seen a base that didn’t have at least a few- typically operational areas like flight lines where saluting every officer that walks by would just get in the way of work

We hardly ever saluted in the hangar either when working (too messy). That center area can be under surveillance, so saluting outside may not be good to do. Also, there's many places outside where you don't salute, including most of any combat zone or out in the field.

I actually snuck in to the pentagon with my girlfriend and her parents. It was in the 80s. We just walked in a open door and walked right in. We saw what looked like stores like a mall. Places to eat. It was on a Saturday or Sunday and no one was there, until we ran into a military police officer who wanted to know what we were doing in a high security building and why. We just told him we thought it was a monument monument

Yeah no that's not a thing....a laser is actually very hazardous to pilots and can cause temporary blindness. There is no "pilot training" for a laser warning system.
