When I met him though he was working for Home Depot. When i retired we moved to our retirement land and he built our retirement home with me helping. We now have a comfortable little 960 Sq ft house and land and house are totally paid for. 17 acres in Central Texas.
My husband does all the same work that you perform so very well. He was a block mason in his teens, carpenter in his 20s, and commercial building contractor till 50s when he had enough Florida sun and became a county building inspector. Still does the occasional remodel. Love what you do. Takes lots of skill, experience, and hard work to be competent in mechanicals and good construction practices. Not many who are good like you. Only suggestion is we started doing counter tops in the same tile as bath floor. He builds to tops in marine plywood, seals then frames the top either painted or stained to match cabinets. Then sets tile on top with tiny grout lines. These counters last for decades longer than laminate. Also we like Hardie board for exteriors. Vinyl can leave in hurricanes😱.

Haha well, let’s just say there isn’t anything that I am afraid of trying. That being said I have more years experience in construction than I care to remember. I’ve actually done most jobs professionally except refrigeration. I have been an HVAC technician just not doing the refrigeration part.
Fantastic!!! I have been working on my own home as I go and have done a lot of things for the first time researching books and videos and when I am stumped, I find the older guys working in the appropriate department at the Home Depot and ask a lot of questions. First of all, thank you for making this video. I had no idea of the amount of work needed to rehab a home. This is a way to provide a good living for your family, and for the next generation. Not be at the mercy of a company that might fold. You must sleep well at night, from your hard work, and from the security you have earned for your loved ones!
@Toni Y thank you for watching! HGTV and others tends to give people a sugar coated idea of what is involved. They focus on eye candy instead of a functional, well thought out and affordable home. Most folks watching those shows just see them and see “pretty”. Folks who do what I do, know the real work needed to revitalize a property. Only a few people would ever attempt this. For better or worse, I am one of the few. Oh, just to be clear, this is a weekend gig and I work a full time job. In fact I have little time for sleep. I usually get to bed between 1-2am and usually get back at it between 6-7am 7 days a week. But it’s not work if you love it! I love it!
Yep, it happens ... I caught someone putting trash in one once and he was genuinely surprised that I cared. When this goes to the landfill and there is household garbage in it, I can get a huge fine and triple dump fees. Thank you so much for thinking of the environment and picking up trash, now kindly reimburse me for the $1750 you cost me by throwing your household trash into my construction debris dumpster!
You Sir, have great vision, impressive skills and a strong back. Beautiful job, guys! PS.... that home would sell for $170,000 -$180,000 up here in northern Illinois.
This was an absolute pleasure to watch. I restore cars and this is like, the literal house version of that which I love. Interesting to watch, you're funny when it's warranted but you don't do it in a way that seems forced, and you turned a ~$5K decrepit shack into something I'd move in to TODAY. Well done all around, man. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks! That’s the analogy I use when people ask me what I do for a hobby. I tell them it’s extreme home remodeling, some people rebuild cars … I rebuild houses!

My grandpa was a builder, and built many of the homes in our town. Watching this reminded me of him and his many talents! He helped many families over the years with safe, affordable housing. This is truly using your gift to help others, great work ❤️
Is there anything you don’t know how to do?👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾
Haha well, let’s just say there isn’t anything that I am afraid of trying. That being said I have more years experience in construction than I care to remember. I’ve actually done most jobs professionally except refrigeration. I have been an HVAC technician just not doing the refrigeration part.
That's what I was thinking too..
Can make huge profits doing most of the work your self..
To hire a construction company to do this work would have cost in excess of $100k clearly not a winning strategy.
@@RehabLife yeah they get ya with the labor costs.. which is hard work depending on what all needs to be done..
Nice work and great job. 👍💪
Fantastic!!! I have been working on my own home as I go and have done a lot of things for the first time researching books and videos and when I am stumped, I find the older guys working in the appropriate department at the Home Depot and ask a lot of questions. They are full of knowledge and experience and it is a great way to show them some well deserved respect.
Good luck with your renovations. I find working on homes very rewarding so I do it a LOT! 😃
This home (on the inside) reminds me of the modest home my husband and I had built. We lived in her 10 years. I think you did great!
Thank you!
You got mad skills turning that junk house into a beautiful home. much respect to you.
Thank you
A miracle!!! I can’t believe you did this and by yourself too. Wow. Amazing
Mostly by myself. I had some great help along the way.
New subscriber 😀... I’m looking forward to watching all your other videos... I feel a video marathon coming up...home looks wonderful and cozy
Thanks for watching, I hope I don’t disappoint 🙂
Binge watch time! I've literally just found the channel and I'm finding myself doing the same haha It's nice to see someone else doing what I've been doing for the last 5 months. Watching is just as satisfying as doing your own stuff haha
👀...”I can’t see that” lol he did an amazing job though...by himself! Bless this man!
I had some good help along the way. My best friend and work partner of 17 years passed away on Sept 30.
@@RehabLife sorry to hear that
WHERE HAVE ALL THE REAL MEN GONE THIS GUY CAN FIX ANYTHING A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART MOST MEN THESE DAYS CANT EVEN MOW THE LAWN 🤷🏼♀️
Wait till you hear that most real women don't exist anymore either
you got money? I can do all these things.
I thought en and women were supposed to be equal 📸
Agreed 😊
Through the floor of course
Genius, Brilliant!!! Description of anyone who can build a house. Thank you for showing your expertise. AND WITH NO GLOVES!! ❤
Wow!!! Amazing deal on the home. My dad has these skills. And so does my brother. However , they could never do these videos. Every word would be a cuss word. And like a few tools thrown and broken. Very impressive! Much respect for your talent, skill and patience.
Do you think your wife will rent you out lol. Looking for a extra set of hands to help me redo my house.
Haha I have too many honey do’s now that if I die when I’m done, the good news is I’ll live forever!!
I wish you all the best with your own home.
Thanks for watching!
All I can say is you are a master..
Thank you for the kind words. I spent many years both building and designing homes from the ground to rooftops.
What a great job you did on the house. What was that little room off the back deck? Laundry? I kind of wished you had covered the whole space. One detail I noticed that may seem minor to most was the fact you installed a curved shower curtain rod. I loved that!
Laundry room...I love the curved rods...The open deck is actually desirable and the current tenants use it a lot
A quite enjoyable video. A man of many useful talents. They are talents that would be useful for many people to have. I look forward to your next adventure.❤❤😊😊
Wow!! You rescued a dilapidated house and changed it into one that could be just wonderful for a small family.
Well done.
It would be wonderful if you could teach teens to build/restore houses. Those teens could volunteer in the weekends too.
If I live in USA, I would volunteer to work on weekends and could learn so much from you.
Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up
Thank you for watching!
Wow! That was some great work!!!!! I didn't know there was real men left in this world! Yall done a wonderful job on this house!!!!! I wish i could find me 1 to remodel like this!😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks!
Wow, what a transformation! My late father and my mom always did all the renovations on their house in Iowa where I grew up and also on their house in Washington where they moved to, and instilled the values of hard work and doing it yourself in my little brother and myself. You really inspired me, and just wanted to share that you really did an amazing job on this house! Love your kitty, too! >^..^< Look forward to seeing your future renovations!
I have several videos of my current project and a few of my past renovations. Feel free to check them out.
Thanks for watching!
You are really talented. Great job.
Thank you so much! I had great teachers and lots of experience. I only hope that I can provide the same for someone else. Thanks for watching!
Is that your son? Teaching him your knowledge. Awesome 👏🏼
LOL actually no. Ray was my best friend and unfortunately he passed away last September. Although my son does help me in some other videos.
Absolutely love how the house turned out! The craziest part, for me, was that he did not wear gloves, even while working with the tin roof! You definitely have an amazing skill for this. Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you! I try to do as much of the work as possible on my own.
Wow, you can’t even buy a decent, used car for $5,000!!!! Amazing
Some might even say this wasn’t a decent house! 😂 😂 😂 but it turned out great anyway.
Thanks for watching!
@@RehabLife it really did turn out great!! I’m sure it didn’t hurt that you could do a lot of the work yourself!!! I’m all about saving money wherever I can. Job well done 👍🏻
@@CindysBudgetBuysDIYs 🙏 years of experience paying off!
I love it!
You did such a wonderful job. Truly a night and day difference.
Thank you 🙏
Good thing that floor was on the main level and not an upstairs. That was startling.
You are not wrong! In the end I was more annoyed than anything.
@@RehabLife you truly have the right mindset for this type of work. Thank you for sharing your journey. I just might subscribe!
I would like that! Thanks for watching!
Awesome Renovation! You are very skilled@@RehabLife
Thanks!
It's so nice to see rehab can be so positive and has nothing to do with drugs. How uplifting. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! My goal is to rehab run-down homes into nice homes that families can enjoy. Feel free to check out my other projects.
@@RehabLife Thanks so much. Will do
I love when you take something old and/or rundown and make it livable again. 😀❤️
It’s my favorite thing to do
We use to call those dumpsters "magical"....they fill up the next day with someone else's debris!!
No wonder some have locks on them.
I wanna get in this business of flipping houses so bad I just don’t know where to start... but you did an amazing job ❤️
You need some cash for sure or a credit line. It helps if you have a background in construction too.
that's what I'd love to do as well!
Hard work and perseverance always wins. This man is amazing!
You Sir, have great vision, impressive skills and a strong back. Beautiful job, guys! PS.... that home would sell for $170,000 -$180,000 up here in northern Illinois.
Thank you! I had great teachers!
Thank god you built this house not too modern not too old just perfect I love houses like these their not too modern I love it!!!
Perfect for the rental market!
This is awesome 🥰.. Wish I had someone to work on my home like this 😊 Keep up the great work
Thank you so much. It really turned out nice.
Ikr!
It looks amazing. I fell through a floor once and hit my back on the edge. I was alone and thought I would die right there! lol Obviously I didn't. Love the porch!
I've had some positive and negative comments about the porch. The tenants love it. If they are happy, I am happy and all is right with the world!
Thanks for watching!
What a Beautiful Home You have made for someone ❤
Thank you!
I love the way you framed that window...I've never seen anyone do that and it fit perfectly! WOW
Gorgeous 👏i joined when the porsh was in process , good job well done .can't waite for the 6000$ and see the result (i hope it will not take 12 months😅)
I am hoping it doesn't take 12 months either! But, as there are things beyond my control, you can never know for sure. It is moving along much faster than this project though. I'm hoping for a 3 - 4 month completion. But oh what will I do then? You know I already have plans :-)
You did great job! I’m proud of you 👏❤️❤️
☺️ ☺️ ☺️
man, i wanna be like u when i grow up lol
You can be, pay attention and don’t be afraid to try things.
It's amazing what one person can achieve , I really hope that you have sold that property with a great profit. Greetings from Poland
My grandparents were from Pomietow. I would love to visit some day.
I am currently renting this property.
@@RehabLife Sorry for my ignorance, I didn't read description of your video, I really loved the quality of your work and your determination, that's all I have meant. You know lots of things have changed in Poland over the last decade but still mentality of some Poles is where it was during Communism time. I hope that one day I will be able to visit US
It is a brand spanking beautiful new home ❤ May Our Lord God bless you and your family for many generations 😊 Love from AZ-US
Much thanks from FL-US 😊😊
Dang dude you worked really hard on this Great Job! I subscribed ;)
Thanks! I hope my next project turns out as well too.
You favor the great Bob Keeshan
HAHA .. you would certainly not be the first to say that. I've often wondered how long it would be before someone on RUclips would make that comparison. It seems the answer is 552 days.
Thanks for the chuckle and thanks for watching!
You did a fantastic job! What was your total expense on that rehab?
Less than 30k including purchase.
Raise your hand if you're ok with admitting you're old enough to know who Bob Keeshan is lol. 🙋
My office door had his photo on it for many years. Captain Kangaroo is my nickname at work and has been for at least 7-8 years. At first I was NOOO but I finally just accepted it 😂
Love that start to finish video! You did a wonderful job on the video and the house 😁!
A Slice of Heaven Homestead thank you so much. It was a fun project and enjoyed it. Of course I am now enjoying the returns. I rented it last week.
Nice! It really was an amazing job. I'm sure those renters appreciate it too 😉.
They love it. As long as they are happy then I am happy
Great skills! Your family is so lucky to have you.🙏♥️
Thank you!
