Another great video, very informative, although when my wife sees all the stuff Daphne brought she thinks she may need more things. Ugh. You did make her decide she can probably use dry shampoo etc. So thanks for that. Keep up the great content. Maybe we will catch up with you two some where in the next couple years. Take care, safe travels
Hi Brian! Thanks for the kind words and I’m really sorry about the additional shopping! 😂 We would love it if we could meet up somewhere along the way! 😊
You guys parked your bags down a significant amount from last time! Nice work! I remember the first time I left the country for an extended period; I brought two suitcases!! I have honed mine down a lot since then! I hope you are having fun in Chang Mai!
Great job downsizing for this trip! I have both those omnilux masks and would totally bring them with me for that long of a trip so no judgment here! 😂
Laurie! I can’t tell you how happy that makes me! Thanks for that validation on bringing the masks. I love them and couldn’t imagine being without them. 😂🩷
I love your packing styles . Very helpful video . Thank you . What an excellent idea getting series of vaccines needed for your trip . Btw, love these ginger chews . I’ve never heard of it before. I will definitely try this one. I never knew you can get seasick on the train 😉. I’m glad you made it safe to Chang Mai. Until next video .
@@RetiredNomadAdventures I even bring the Blood Orange Ginger Chews for winters in Salt Cay, TCI for boat rides to go get groceries! I loved them for years.
Love seeing how it all fits into the suitcases & backpacks! I too sneak a few things in my husband’s bag 😂 - nice of them to let us! So interesting seeing this. It is fun seeing the changes you made, or didn’t, and what is working vs not. Thank you for the video and have fun!! Happy travels 😊😊
Thanks for sharing what you packed! We also travel light, but I couldn’t believe that you could fit 10 dresses in a cube! Daphne… did you bring all your timeless serums this time for 5 months? (I also use them 😊) Enjoy!
Thanks Tracy! It was helpful that the dresses are lightweight summer dresses, but I was thrilled to easily get 10 in there! ☺️ You have a great eye! I use pretty much use everything Angie Hot and Flashy says is essential. I am hoping my Timeless skincare lasts the entire time we are gone. Last time I ran out 2 days before we were coming home. If I can do that this time, I will be so happy!
This was fun to watch! We are prepping for our first months-long trip to SE Asia - I was concerned about overpacking but you made me feel a lot better. If you can fit all that stuff in your bags, I am golden 😂 Thanks for sharing and have a great time!!
Good job! We’re into our 5th year of full-time travel. We now carry two backpacks and two roller bags and feel like we’re on top of things when the total of our bags is less than 90 pounds in total. We feel like every time we head out on a long stint, our packing gets better and better. When I remember that on our first trip, my husband packed his tuxedo! We’re WAY over that now! (And btw, we are Russian doll packers, not cubers).
Hi Margot! Our packing is definitely better than it was the first time we did this and we hope that like you, we can just get better and better each time we go. I bet your husband looked very handsome in his tuxedo! 🩷🤩
Enjoying your videos and appreciate you bringing us all along. I’ve been hanging around since you started and it’s fun and inspiring to see you growing your travel skills. we are hoping to do something similar soon, so watching you from your first year makes me feel like it’s possible for me too! Thank you! Happy travels!
Thanks Rick and Daphne! My wife Tracy and I really enjoy watching your videos. We have been following your journey since the beginning. Your packing this time was very impressive. We are on the countdown for our travels to SE Asia so any tips are super helpful.
Hi Tony! I’m so glad these videos are at least a little bit helpful. Thank you for following along since the beginning. From what we’ve seen so far, I think you and Tracy will love it in Southeast Asia! 😊
You both are so cute! I totally love your videos and I get so excited when you have a new one! I’m interested in that bar shampoo and conditioner. I usually go to the beauty supply and buy sample size products. Last time in London my suitcase got flagged for 100 ml bottles. I’m wondering if you like the bars? I have a lot of hair and need good products. You guys are doing great on your luggage! Every trip I’ve taken, I learn new things. Experience makes a good traveler! Have a great time and I can’t believe you flew all that way and yet look so fresh!😂 Those long flights kill me! Enjoy Asia!!!
Thanks Robin! 😊 I usually bring sample/travel size bottles of shampoo and conditioner with me too, but those don’t last long for this longer term travel. My hair is so fussy and when we were on our last trip, I had a surprisingly hard time finding shampoo/conditioner that agreed with my hair. I really like this bar shampoo/conditioner combo. It seems to really get rid of all the build up and leave my hair soft and clean. I was able find a smaller bottle of conditioner I like here. So, I wash my hair with the bars only most times, but then I throw in some deeper conditioner every third wash or so. I hope that is helpful, I know keeping on top of our hair needs when traveling can be tough.
Great video, my hubby and I arrived to Hanoi for the start of a two month trip through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. We packed in carryons 21 in and smaller backpacks…it’s a challenge for sure! Wish I would have brought another sweater besides my wool hoody, it’s chilly here and we are from Canada 😂 Enjoy your trip!
Thanks! Your two month trip sounds great! If you can fit it in, sounds like the perfect excuse to do a little shopping! 😊 Wishing repair a wonderful adventure and safe travels!
You may find that you can ditch the foot filers, loofahs, soap stuff, etc. Pedicures are generally less than $10 in the countries you’re visiting. And razors and lots of brands of shampoo, etc. are available everywhere. I’ve found I pack fewer and fewer toiletries every time we head out on a “stint”. And I now only have one set of jammies.
I agree! Asia does spa services really well at inexpensive prices. And unless you have allergies or skin and or hair “issues” and need to carry “safe and familiar” toiletries, most basics can be bought at the destination. (I usually buy toothpaste, body wash, body lotion and shampoo and conditioner, at most of my destinations.)
Awesome video. You pack an amazing amount so well. I love this videos. I will re watch to really absorb good tips. You are really becoming such experienced travellers. Such a fun topic So hard to pack efficiently for long flights and long term travel.
Thanks!! 😊 It is tricky to pack for long term travel! The thing we had going in our favor this time is that the weather should be mostly sunny and hot everywhere we are going so we were able to pack lightweight clothes and there wasn’t the need to add items for different climates. Phew! 😅
The original travel adapter we were using… the colorful one, is significantly smaller when you pull out the pieces. They both work great, but the original one is much more compact. I don’t know if it is worth the additional cost, but we do like the original one a bit better.
I really do love the mirror. I use it every day. Even in our place now that has good lighting, I find I really like the magnification and that extra little bit of light really helps! 😊
This winter we are staying in our condo in Mexico and for the first time I brought a giant bag which was overweight and cost us extra 😱but allowed me to bring enough toiletries to last me. Last year I had difficulty finding my preferred brands. The upside is that I can buy my tretinoin over the counter :) I've found that I do pack differently each big trip, sometimes it works out and sometimes I change eventually. Enjoy Thailand - it lis on my list for sure!
Great strategy!! I struggle with finding my preferred brands too! I know I can get most things wherever we are, but I am so used to my brands and I am happy with them, that I don’t want to have to spend time and money figuring out the best alternatives. I was able to buy Tretinoin over the counter in one pharmacy in Portugal, but not others. I am going to see if it is possible here I Thailand. I will report back. 😂😊
We were so scared of the size and weight limits on our Lufthansa flight to Rome that we bought the smaller Away carry ons and then limited ourselves to 18 lbs (8 kg). They never even looked at our bags when we boarded. Maybe it's up to the agents? Maybe since we had business class they don't check? Love hearing real world experience from you (and others).
I must admit we are a bit nervous each time we check in for a flight about the size and now the weight of our luggage. I don’t know if I can do better or go smaller - maybe in time. I love that you were able to do it! #inspiration! 😊
It’s been my experience that most airline staff is far more indulgent regarding luggage weight, when you fly business or first class… although it still needs to physically fit into the overhead or under the seat.
While at a Lufthansa gate last year while awaiting my departure in Germany, I watched the gate agent trolling the area looking at bags. She then had several people come up to the counter and put their carry on bag in the sizer which also had a built in scale. One girl then was desperately going through her bag to take items out as hers was overweight.
@ that’s what we were afraid of even though we have the correct size. But now we’ll just check if asked. It’s not like we get a prize for not checking bags.
Thats the largest toiletry bag for a man I've ever seen! Mine is the size of one of those sections in that large fold up kit you have. I dont travel with shampoo or soap as I use whatever is provided at the accomodation so that might be part of it but I have found that I can buy virtually anything I might need in most countries so I don't worry about it that much. The only thing I really need is my deodorant brand which is non aluminium based.
Question about the bar shampoo and conditioner please. I use them but don’t find the conditioner works well. Your hair always looks so nice I was wondering if you have found one that you like ?
Hi! Yes, I like the ones that I showed in this video. I used them for a bit before we left just to make sure I like them before bringing them with us. I tend to use the shampoo bar all the time and every third wash I use a deep conditioner and that seems to work really well. 😊
May I ask- what are the dimensions of your carry on suitcases? They look larger than what many airlines allow as carry on? Or are you checking these carry on suitcases and your backpacks end up being your carry on luggage? Thank you for sharing- enjoy your travels through SE Asia.
The dimensions are 22.7x15.4x9.6. We have used the backpack as our personal item and suitcase as carry on. If we have to check the suitcase due to size or weight, then the backpack becomes our carry on. 😊
