    I use a small packing cube for my toiletry bag. Opens flat. And I like that it lets some air through. Great video! Thanks for sharing.

    Great video guys!! We laughed when we saw your facecloth! We brought two along with us this time AND a dishcloth (we can't stand using sponges like they seem to love in Europe! LOL). We can totally relate! We always learn something from everyone's packing video. We can't wait to do our own! LOL. Loved the ipad/iphone holder too! Haven't seen that before. Have a great time back home! Cheers!

    Highly recommend the sea to summit hanging toiletry bag…light and roomy. Also, a matador soap bar case (or two )- they are magical for travel and just buy a cheap plastic soap dish for your Airbnb when you get there.

    You've joined our illustrious ranks of people that over packed for the fist big long term trip. For the better part of a year I was dragging around two large suitcases - one with the things I actually used, and the other with things I had brought, discovered I didn't need, but couldn't bear to throw out.

    Rick. I also use the Philips Norelco One Blade and I purchased attachments for it that fits over the blade that allows for trimming hair/eye brows, nose hair, etc. I really like the small footprint of this device. Got these on Amazon.

    Hi Daph and Rick - we need to take all of your packing tips and use them for our next trip - we always bring too many things
    We are late watching the video as we were out at our Christmas family meal - Richard has sent some photos
    Looking forward to your next video - it won’t be long before you are packing again
    You will have to let the family know what you need for travelling and you might get them as Christmas presents !!! Xxxx

    Wow over 5 months, you really learn what you do and don't need. I feel like after a week vacation I am still justifying things that I didn't use in my suitcase, "yes, but, maybe I would've worn the dress shoes if we had done.... or that extra coat, what if it had gotten really cold?" But after 5 months I feel like you know what you didn't need. Thanks for the video, I have been trying to learn to pack light.

    That was fun! I do like watching what other people bring along with them. We took a few Ryanair flights when we first began full time travels and I was so worried about the dimensions I went with a really small carry on which meant we felt we really had to make some difficult choices. We never missed anything. I was sooo grateful for my small bag climbing those stairs to the fabulous apartment with the view over Florence:) BTW Daphne - I love the Cerave cleansing bar.

    Very informative packing video! I also pack for 7 days and do laundry to repeat . Keep it simple . So far my husband and I can get away with travelling light . Carry on only as much as possible. We survived carry on only on our 2.5 week trip to India . Made our move from place to place easily . Great job both of you .
    Until next .

    Great video on the lessons learned, thank you! We’re 6 weeks in to our first year long stint away from the US. We’ve got a medium and a large Away with us that we’re checking, and 2 backpacks. I’m trying to figure out how/if we could ever get it down to just carryon size! I think because we’re gone for a year, and we’ll have to contend with Europe temps in Feb-Apr and needed medicine for a full year, it just pushed us over the top. If only I could find 75 degrees everywhere for a year! 😂 Thanks for sharing!

    I'm impressed. You fit so much into 2 carryons and 2 backpacks. We're doing 2 Away Carry Ons (the smaller ones) and 2 backpacks and we had a hard time with the 8kg weight limits.

      Good point. I was wondering how all that stuff fit in 2 carry ons and 2 backpacks, albeit large looking ones all. But I hadn't thought about the weight limit (though for the life of me I can't think of any time my carry on was weighed). When Daphne held up the packing cubes and said she had x number of items in each of them I couldn't believe it! How? And I would imagine the jackets and shoes alone would fill a carry on, LOL! They must be magicians! We brought WAY less clothing for our 5 week trips and still had one checked bag and one carry on...

    • @Every_State_Park
      @Every_State_Park 4 часа назад

      @@jenniferpincus2011 I watched their other packing video and realized they had 3 carry ons not 2. Also on our latest trip we tried hard to only bring quick dry clothes and that saved a lot of room since they pack much smaller. We also basically pack for a week and then wash our clothes. We really stressed about the 8kg weight limit on Lufthansa and they didn't end up looking at our bags at all. We did have business class though, so maybe they're more lenient depending on tickets?

    So interesting to hear what worked & what didn’t. I would love to see your next pack out… I am curious as to how small you will be able to go. I used to travel with max carry on but now am team backpack & have my sights on underseat only. So light weight - so your husband’s list plus a silk dress & flats & thin cardi could work for me. Plus small Sea to Summit toiletry bag altho lately, I am inspired by Sarah Murdoch & trying to fit it all in the 311 bag! 😬 But not for 5 months!!. I did 11 weeks with my 311 & small palm size bag for solids/toiletry articles. I just really like the lighter weight, no backpain and simplicity. (& the challenge is a game/fun!) My travel style has become more & more minimal over the last ten years & I am leaning into my Kånken Nr 2 now 😳😬😂 altho I did use my Osprey 26+6 Daylite for the 11 week trip. The Kånken is better for European flights. (& we travel in winter so down vest/wool cardi & rain/wind coat are carried on 👍🏻.) So it will be fun to follow along vicariously and see your adventures & how things change!! Mine is still a work in process & it does vary - but my fave travel is as light as possible purely for comfort. Love what you are doing!! Fun!

    Another informative and useful video. Can I ask, what did you find challenging about the iPad? (Rick mentioned that it wasn't always useful)

    • @RetiredNomadAdventures
      @RetiredNomadAdventures  20 часов назад

      We bought this iPad specifically for traveling, but as it turns out I much prefer working on Rick’s laptop. Certain features on some websites are not fully functional on the iPad. It’s mostly just annoying, not a dealbreaker. I use Rick’s laptop when I need to and decided it wasn’t frustrating enough that I need to buy a new laptop this go around. I’ll take the iPad with me as we head into Asia and decide if I need to replace it for our next leg. This is my third iPad, so I’m familiar enough with them, but I guess I must’ve been just using them for more fun stuff at home. Since I also had a laptop at home I never really noticed how some websites interact with them differently. 😊

  • @MartinSheldon-r7e
    @MartinSheldon-r7e 2 дня назад

    Interesting about the toiletries bag. We changed back from the roll up/hanging bag to a shaped bag. When rolled up it was bulky and had no shape but you do have the option of laying it flatter. As much as the bulk the weight of these items is surprising. Our toiletry bag weighs over 7kg! I'm ditching large cans of shave foam for a travel item to carry and then buying as we move and leaving behind. In Europe they're often less than €2.00. It's a fine line between practicality and comfort?

    • @RetiredNomadAdventures
      @RetiredNomadAdventures  День назад

      Hi Martin! I feel the toiletries may continue to be an evolving process for us. 😅 I’ve never been a huge fan of the hanging bags, but these new ones we just purchased lay flatter than any of the others I’ve ever used and you can even fold them just halfway if you want. So fingers crossed this will a good change going forward. 😊

      @@charlottelyon7423 Hi Charlotte! I made the mistake of bringing my Dyson with me several years ago and basically I just carried it around in my suitcase for the entire vacation! At that time I didn’t understand that it wouldn’t work in a foreign country. 🤦‍♀️ For this trip I thought I could get away with a round brush and a blow dryer, but I’m not skilled enough for that. I went to a shop when we were in England and bought this blow drying brush. It’s a Babyliss one. It’s OK, it gets the job done, but it’s no Dyson. I have one listed down below in the Amazon links that seems like it’s a good dual voltage one. I hope that helps!
