SCP-049, otherwise known as The Plague Doctor, has a innate desire to purge the world of "the pestilence". He kills those who summon the will to oppose him, and uses their bodies for his experiments. But another entity, SCP-343, has taken an interest in The Plague Doctor. 343, or "God" as he is sometimes referred to as, takes SCP-049 on a journey through the past to see the beginning of the pestilence that has become the doctor's obsession...

Getting The Volgun to voice The Plague Doctor was literally the best choice you could've made. One of the first videos of his I discovered was his video on the Plague Doctor, and his voice for the SCP is essentially my head-canon voice at this point for him. Absolutely amazing video!

@@angrybrony In a canon, the end of death where immortality is forced upon every living thing in the SCP universe. So problems arise and they leave 682 alone and yada yada. 049 tries to touch one of the researchers and he is unable to turn him into a zombie and it makes him depressed. So since he is non anomalous, they grant him work with the health department to help patients and it's kinda sad

This is my all time favorite portrayal of 343. (Which if you haven't figured it out, that's who talking to 049). So many portray him as arrogant or wrathful. I like this portrayal of trying to understand his own creations
In a manner of speaking, the plague doctor was his creation. But the 049? Another beast that crawled from darkness when he wasn't looking. Kinda like 682.
343 likely comes and goes to The Foundation to study that which is not his. And so far, much of the SCP's are not his creation.
I thought it was implied that 343 was not the real god.

Bear in mind that 343 has never been confirmed to be the Christian god. He says he is God, but he doesn't have to answer all the questions people pose him. He might just also be limiting how much of his anomalous properties he uses. Hell, he could be more powerful than SCP-3812 "A Voice Behind me", literally the most powerful reality bender.
Regarding Clef. The girl that he tried to kill was SCP-239 "The Witch Child". Dr. Clef is, well... mentally unstable, it actually shines in alot of tales regarding him, and he's also earned himself a penchant for lying, so I wouldn't take him claiming to be Satan and 239 God very seriously, it could very well be an analogy or something.

Honestly I think he does. Guys a monster: not a intentional one, but in this perception of the Plague Doctor he is neither a genius or a necessity. He is a deluded creature.
This was an amazing interpretation on a possible origin for 049 and what the “pestilence” is. The fact that he was once a common peasant that was immune to the place and who almost lost his whole family from it eventually leading him to seek a cure for something that even he doesn’t have a clear idea of is truly sad. Also the fact that you got TheVolgun “who’s basically seen as the official voice of 049” to be in this video gives it extra points!

Lovely show of the nature of the plague doctor scp! His character is confused, but he doesn’t realize it, it’s a saddening state hes in, unwilling to change his perspective, or try to understand anything, and once someone points it out (ie god scp) his reasoning crumbles and all he can do is try to play down the opposing side, and pretend he’s above them. It’s really sad, truly, and it really does relate to what people do sometimes, and how fear or a trauma can effect someone.

The only thing I see is this self proclaimed "god" doing the same mistake as everyone. Limiting his reality to what he can percive. Ever thought that there might be something which can affect reality in a way that it totaly undectable by human means and in extention by 343?
Just as an example, imagine an invisible, undetectabke cloud of particles. When someone enters that cloud, the particles kills them and stay within their body, perfectly mimicking everything the person would normaly in absolutly perfect way.
Now, how would you detect it? You wouldn't. You would sit, eat, chat with, pardon my language, meat pupet and had no idea about it.

My theory is that the pestilence is age. He cures them from age by making them almost immortal.
I think that the pestilence is the lack of a genetic marker that would make you immune to the bubonic plague. Something that was intrinsically an extremely rare trait in a living being. I imagine that is why he kills and then reanimates things. Injecting them with an elixir probably made of his own blood or some other bodily fluid combined with various ingredients which would serve to both reanimate and immunize the patient. The reanimation being achieved through more anomalous means.
I think “pestilence” is just what happens after someone makes a horrible decision, like he had done. The point of no return. It’s not free will itself, it’s choosing the worst path. He prevents pestilence by stopping the dominoes before they fall.

Theory: The plague doctor is the one who has the pestilence and can infect anyone he deems “sick” (or unable to cure it). He views doctors and researches as individuals who are immune to it because it’s in their medical field. However, the people he declares sickness to probably don’t even have it.

Head cannon: 343 actually tried to manipulate 049 by showing him false memories, trying to confirm that he was, in fact, someone at some point in his life like 106, expecting some reaction. Seeing that it didn’t work, “God” realized that 049 may have never been a human, and is someone like him: incomprehensible, with unknown origins and/or purpose

Hi, i play teemo for a living Here’s the thing, the cool part about 343 is that nobody can know for sure if he’s just a very powerful Reality Warper that decided to have a little fun by tricking people instead of destroying them because he knew nobody could oppose him... or if he is, in fact, God. In “canon” there are people who believe the first, and people who believe in the latter. The main argument about this mistery is: why did GOD HIMSELF deliver himself to the front door of The Foundation willingly just to be locked and hidden away? Is it because he finds that tricking a very powerful organization (and actually helping them sometimes) is fun? Or does he want to have a closer look at Cain and Able? We might never know...
The animation is good, the voice acting is spot on, and this is a good backstory on what happened after Dr.Hann is dead. You da BEST!

I can tell this is the Foundation’s last resort to understand 049 through God. Too bad it didn’t go as planned, God should’ve shown his face to him. Would’ve opened 049’s eyes instantly to sanity.

I think this is the best video you guys have made so far, something about how the story was told and animated works really well.
This makes me think the plague doctor was a normal man until he got in contact with a anomily that looked like a plague suit that causes people to try to cure a current existing plague (even if the don't know how) but since he was immune it was more like an uncatchable disease so he made a new plague that doesn't exist causing him to go around saying he is cureing the pestilence when he just uses old surgury skills and medicine he picked up from fooling around for many years of being controled. His long life could be because his immunity evolved to immortality through the plague suits infuence on his body. This also explains why th suit is his body.
Or you know, he's just a being from a different reality that was never human.
I could see why you would think that but the scientist send “you never once made a choice that was yours” personally I would look in why he was immune to the plage.

Can I just say this dude is one of my favorite SCP’s ever, because even though yes he does kill people he kills them because he’s just trying to do it’s supposed job as a plague doctor also props to the voice actor for the plague doctor it’s really good not What I was expecting but OK
The disease he references was actually looked in depth from different SCP videos. It's emotion, or anger. Emotion (mainly anger) is more dangerous than any disease as it has brought countless and pointless death to the world. Which is why he sets them back to their base form (zombified) they're an emotionless husk that is only driven by it's more baser desires of survival

Ya i think that's the point but surprisingly scp 049 is kinda immune to "god" maybe he was power to be immune to reality warper or memory changing power like "god" and maybe the Pestilence. "God" was frustrated that he don't know the truth so he made he's own truth like what scp 049 told us. Scp 343 is NOT god it was hinted in the article so dont tell me scp 343 is actually GOD he can be either memory warper or a reality warper.
