    I mayyyy have gone a little further on the cleaning using some non chlorinated brake cleaner and a tooth brush, I just didn't want to show it in case I somehow broke the card further and the ebay seller happened to see the video. I also have since put the stock bios on the card and the first time I loaded heaven benchmark the clocks spiked to almost 500mhz before locking back down at 135mhz. I think this card is just truly fucked unless the actual sensor in question was reflowed or replaced.
    I'M SAD ABOUT IT!

      Sounds to me like you bought a dud video card, in spite of it being incredibly powerful. I'd say you should return it and get a refund. And next time, buy the same card from the actual manufacturer. eBay has its shady people here and there, and I personally think you got swindled.

      Just re-flash a stock BIOS onto the card. Some Maxwell cards have issues with stuck power states with their original BIOS, much like how some AMD R9 series cards can crash due to a corruption in the BIOS.

      I agree with you entirely, having massively written custom firmware on Maxwell, with fantastic results. He could first download the cards current firmware, and flash it back if needed. Obviously he wouldn't want to be careless, or he would risk not being able to get it out of a crisis situation. I had a card like that where I flashed the wrong file, and the screen went black on reboot. I kept my cool, and did it blind. I had to get CMD opened and type all of the path and command line out blind, and it worked after the reboot.

      Right, we were aware that some people were reporting issues with that, but he didn't want to bother with trying to do any more of a "pro" mod. I know that the card was running for at least a year after the mod, but I don't know what he did with the 980 TI after he replaced it with a 1080 TI. I also modded both of my 1080 TIs that I bought right when they came out, and though I haven't taken the blocks off to look at them, the benchmark data now matches from right after the mod. I used conductonaut for both his mod and mine.

    A perfectly working Titan X is not worth even $380... Its beaten by a GTX 1070, which new is about that price with a warranty. Even my much more powerful Titan Xp Star Wars collectors edition is going for $800 in good condition, so a really old Maxwell card is probably worth ~$320 only if it is in great shape, maybe $400 if it has a full waterblock.
    I just bought a couple nice R9 Fury for dirt cheap, 2x of those beat my Pascal flagship Titan (in most of my games, there are a few like Fortnite that the Titan wins). So why not get duel Fury for the same ~$400? Its way better.... And they work. Speaking of which, I'm very certain they were mining cards, because they came in an AntMiner box and the seller was getting rid of a ton. They are the highest overclocking Furys I own, so LOL, turns out mining doesn't phase them in the slightest. I'll have fun with 4x Firestrike benchmarks later when Threadripper gets here, then do some 4k and triple 4k benchmarks.

    There is the possibility that someone shunt modded the resistor with liquid metal.
    The liquid metal ruins solder and can even have partially or totally de-soldered the shunt resistor.
    Check its resistance as read by the chip that measures the voltage across it. So find a place far from it on the board by following the tracks and check its resistance (so you can check all the connection through to it from the power measurement chip and not miss liquid metal effects on the solder through to it). The chip that reads the voltage across it will have very high resistance so won't affect the reading. The resistance should be stated on the resistor.
    It may be too high if it has been de-soldered, even an open connection depending on the damage. You may need to get an e.g. 5W 50ohm resistor and put it across to replace it.
    Or try putting another resistor in parallel anyway, even if its reading the correct resistance, like a normal shunt resistor mod.
    If its reading 158% power usage all the time, the problem is very likely here, and reducing its resistance, like a shunt mod, is likely the best way to help.

    If the TDP is reading too high, its because there is an issue with one of the two resistors. Easy to fix and there are lots of guides online for the Titans. Previous owner may of done a shunt mod with liquid metal. Overtime, the liquid metal can eat away the solder on the resistor. Just need to reheat the solder and resistor with a soldering iron and maybe add fresh solder.

    A little more constructive comment would be this one.
    If the coolant was conductive and landed on the sensor then it was most likely shorted to ground if not completely killed (both would exhibit the same behaviour) this means that the signal from the sensor is stuck at its highest value since most sensors will get locked at max when the fail and that would be confusing the card to hell and back. Shunt modding would probably fix this since that allows the current flow to bypass the sensor. However replacing the sensor would have the same effect.
    (Shunt mods can be done with something as simple as liquid metal thermal paste and are thus not a permanent mod if you do it that way so it's worth a try. I had a 980ti do this to me a while back, although it was flat out refusing to boot because of it but it was the sensor causing the issue and shunt modding gave me back at least some functionality while I figured out how to replace the sensor.)

    Use some CRC Brake Clean to clean the PCB. Coolants can be conductive. This may fix the issue, as Nvidia uses a shunt resistor to determine power usage of the card. You may want to use some LM on the shunt resistors to raise the power limit.
    EDIT : The shunt resistors are marked "5MO", and there are three of them. Apply a thin layer of LM on them, then test to see what your results are.

    • @1pcfred

    As João Veludo is mentioning your card is not raising the clock's because there is a short in the power delivery. Look at the video of der8auer of the new rtx2080 overclocking. He is modifing the power delivery chip's so that the card can consume more power. But there is a problem, the card goes in to fail safe mode because there is too much electricity flow. If you can locate these power delivery chips you can maybe solve the problem. Good luck with that!

    +Timmy Joe PC Tech I've had issues with Gigabyte GPUs not detecting or misinterpretated the PWM fan connector on 3rd party coolers. I think it happened first time when I put accelero Xtreme 120-III on my friends r9 290 gigabyte windforce edition and the GPU detected the cooler fan as beyond 10 000 000 RPM and did not spin with no other cooler one of which I had from like HD 4850. Only the original worked.

    Just wanna say from running a small business in the states and having shipped to Canada for a few years before and after trump the reason why alot of Americans don't ship is due to the paperwork involved with shipping to your country and certain licenses you have to have as a small retailer. Even if you try to ship something and don't claim it as retail it tends to be a hassle. With Amazon you can get around the paperwork but USPS, UPS, and FedEx have ridiculous prices and information to fill out about the product. Love your channel

      Paul Frederick, what do you think of gently using a soft bristle tootbrush?

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred 6 лет назад

      any brush is better than something with fiber like a paper towel or a Q-Tip. But with a toothbrush the handle is not the best angle for cleaning boards. You want to keep your hand over the board and out of the parts. It would still work though. We use flux brushes (sometimes called acid brushes) and cut them down short at a low angle with scissors to stiffen the bristles up some. With the angle flux brushes are a bit more aggressive and reach better into nooks and crannies. You need bristle flick to get stuff off boards. Though on open parts of circuit boards where there are no parts we pat with paper towels to soak stuff up. We clean flux residue off boards. But it is gunk on boards. This is what a flux brush looks like and you cut about half the bristles shorter with scissors at about a 15 degree angle workingsilver.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/p-987-brs98005.jpg

  • @Imillier123
    @Imillier123 6 лет назад

    sounds like someone liquid cooled their mining rig. that said, its likely custom flashed to run in series, so you need to wipe it and re install a current bios to fix the sensor. the ports you can salvage, if its Vue fluid dried on there from a leak, that stuff is non electrical conductive, but is likely blocking power transmission acting as a giant resistor. your best bet is break cleaner to remove the residue. beyond this however if that fails what is most likely is that you have a short to ground on the HDMI circuit which does include the thermal sensor, in which case it will require soldering assuming you can find the failed resistor, do you still have your thermal cam?
