      Funny because originally I was running an FX 8350 with two 290x's in crossfire. When I got the 295x2 I had planned on replacing both with it but read an article about the Tri-fire set up and thought why not. I had a 1200w PS but was having issues whenever crossfire was enabled. It ended up being under powered. I got myself a 1600w Evga supernova and the problem went away. I still use that 1600w in my current build even though it's overkill. I got my 295x2 for $750 in 2015 new and sold it last year for $900 at the hight of the mining craze. Upgraded to a 1080ti and am quite happy

      The Horror Well yes, But if you have a micro ATX board with only 1 x16 lane then a dual GPU card will be ideal if you want to venture in SLI/Crossfire, Micro ATX is picking up in popularity, Some say SLI/Crossfire is also dying, so you got that argument but its subjective though. I just find dual GPU cards interesting myself for situations where fitting in 2 physical cards is not possible.

    Still loving my 295x2 even 4 years later. As I run 6 screen Eyefinity for work and things like Elite Dangerous Nvidia isn't an option. You just have to tweak in game settings on your titles to stay below the 4gb Vram limit. Yes it pumps out heat but during the winter I seriously don't need to turn the heating on while gaming. Only takes 85w running 6 desktop screens when not gaming (monitors excluded). Will upgrade if Navi turns out to be worth it. Timmy Joe NZXT Cam or the built in Radeon Adrenalin overlay should allow you to check framerates without issue.

    • @TheSilviu8x

    • @AlexanderVRadev
      @AlexanderVRadev 6 лет назад

      I am running the same i5 3570k and it doesn't stutter. First off there is a huge difference between a locked CPU like the 4570 running at something over 3GHz and an unlocked and overclocked to the max CPU like the 3570k running at 4.9Ghz for example. Second stutter is not caused by having old CPU, it is caused by the hardware being hammered by far more that it can handle like for example having your CPU running too slow so the game overloads the main thread while at the same time having your GPU being pushed to the max due to far higher settings than it can handle. It can be a simple case of running out of Vram on your GPU and so on.

    • @CharcharoExplorer
      @CharcharoExplorer 6 лет назад +2

      Yes I know why stutter happens. No it is not VRAM nor RAM issues as upgrading to the 1500X fixed all of those problems and I had 16 GB DDR3 and now have 16 GB DDR4.
      Modern games need more threads. That is all there is to it. If I were to play older or less demanding new games, the 1500X wont score a lot over the 4570 (slightly higher IPC and clocks on Zen is all there is to it) but in a multitasking scenario or in modern games, there is a real difference.

    Hi man. Great video. About Doom not using the second GPU, I noticed you are using Vulcan. Vulcan doesn't run SLI or Crossfire at all as far as I know. I had the same issue with my MARS 760x2. As soon as you change to OpenGL however, it works with SLI no problem. I think Crossfire should work fine as well in OpenGL and the scaling I got was mighty fine, keeping the GPUs at over 90% at all times with no stutter or visual glitches. I am currently thinking of getting the same model - R9 295x2 card to be honest. After all this is the best dual GPU solution in existence (that you can get at the very least).

    the original cooler design was pretty ingenious. They separated the heat from the gpu's into the loop and then used a heat sink for everything else with its own fan. That way they didn't have to create an absolutely enormous radiator to handle all the heat. Because the 120mm rad that comes with it woud likely be totally heat soaked otherwise. I hope AMD does another dual gpu card... hopefully infinity fabric will finally bring about the dual gpu no crossfire or sli era.

Then when the rumors began on the "Fury X2" I was so interested because of the strength of the 295x2. Then AMD kicked me in the groin at the last minute by calling it the "Pro Duo" and made it specifically a workstation card.
    I liked the SLI on a board because it didn't have the overhead caused by the PCI-E.
    So now I hope that Navi uses infinity fabric to link multiple GPU cores together like what has made Ryzen so successful.

    These days I'm running a 1070 on a laptop as I'm done with massive unwieldy gaming setups, but back then it made sense for me.

    I often shy away from cards like these, for they have usually been abused with major overclocks...users often dump these cards when they begin to fail due to extensive abuse; however, for the price you paid? A very good buy though.

    The culprit to the buggy troubles is likely crossfire. If it's a old card using newer drivers it's likely that it's crossfire problems NEVER got resolved and is very unstable with crossfire enabled.

    Quite the special card indeed. It was never easy to get dual gpu's run well. Or at least give it 200% performance over a 1 GPU system. A lot of work to keep both GPU's comunicating and the busses filled.

      was a 290x model, I had one but had to sell it as it was a B-Grade unit. Thought I was saving myself some cash over the reference model. I ended up replacing it with a pair of 290x cards instead. Its fully water cooled with a R7 1700 and its a very sweet setup, even at 1440p

      @@Carsman50 I've re-read several articles about the 395x2, and it was 2 390x. yes I know they are 290x rebranded, but the amout of vram is different : 2x4gb vs 2x8gb. So in 4K it would make a difference (+ the higher clocks).
      Myself I own a 290 and it's still a very good card, I've OCed it to 1167 core and 1602 vram (new thermal pads and paste tho) and it hold up to a gtx 1060 (but consume 2 times the power ^^).

    For this, I had a friend who had a Intel I5 but he finally switch to a Intel i7 just to get it running all the time since at times the intel i5 would act weird at times and just blue screen for him, and then he got the hot king of all hottness, the AMD FX 9590 CPU and he was able to keep it running but damn with both of them running, you better have water blocks for both the CPU and the GPU since they going to run super hot and pull a ton of power from the wall, but at least he was able to run it and get the computer on them benchmarks websites.

    I've got an XFX R9 290X 8GB paired with a ryzen 1700@3.92GHz. So far it is great for me because i play on a 22" 60Hz 1080p monitor. For example PUBG runs at around 80-100FPS with AA on ultra, view distance on ultra, textures on medium, effects on medium, shadows on very low, post processing on very low. I hope it'll last me some time.

    Have been using the XFX R9 295x2 black edition since 2014 and mostly watching this hoping to see if there is a trick to get the crossfire to work. So far, on almost every game I play, only 1 of the cores is used making this essentially a very expensive R9 290.
    That being said, it is still fully capable of running current games at 1080p on decent settings. Will be replacing it with a RTX 2080ti once nVidia finally gets around to shipping it out.

      I think it actually worked a lot better then I was thinking it would. My biggest problem with it is I wanted to run 4K benchmarks but the V Ram Limited a lot. Had the Sapphire 295x2 back in the day, pretty bad times with it, most games it wouldn't play due to hardly any titles supporting Crossfire, constant driver issues, insane temps and powerdraw.
    Fantastic performance on the few titles it would play, but again...those temps, 93 degrees after 10 mins...driver crashing games..Nah...don't miss it.

    Timmy Joe - Make sure your power supply has only one 12v rail when using this card. On PSUs with more than one rail you will need to judge by yourself if the amount of power needed is obtainable on your rail combination (pain in the A$$). This can severely decrease your OC potential and stability,
