The fun atmosphere that you guys portray magic in is mostly monopolized by commander content that isnt very engaging for a competitive player such as myself. Keep doing great work!
100% this I am not a competitive player but I see commander as more of a social driven game with less interesting interaction and nearly always going infinite to win.
4:51 Chrome Mox doesn't exile the card as a cost, it lets you choose if you want to exile it on resolution. You also should probably put the card imprinted under it to avoid confusion of what (if any) color it makes
I think this is pretty definitively the best magic channel on RUclips now, or at least up there with the heavy hitters. I love the general focus on 60 card, the real attention to detail with the production values and the fact that it's all about the game. Honestly a channel about MTG focused on actually playing and talking about the game of magic as a game rather than as a product shouldn't be hitting an underserved niche in 2022 but it absolutely is. Channels about the business of magic, meta discussions about sets as products and release schedules, content on supporting products like slieves and deck box's ect and product openings all have a place but the core of the space should be about the game as a game, and this one is a really good example of that
In the last game, Carl could have cast Flusterstorm to exchange some of his Empty the Warrens copies for Baral loot triggers to try to keep going off, since even without Thoralf's last draw the 18 goblins wouldn't have been enough to chump the creatures on board and then swing back for lethal. It's definitely not obviously better than just going for the goblin stack, and does present an amount of risk, but eating some - or all - of the copies to sculpt your hand and try to find a way to get to Grapeshot would have provided a chance to win that turn, rather than giving Thoralf the chance to topdeck something.
I considered it! And thought it was too risky. I had completely missed that thoralf's deck is unlike regular hypergenesis when making that decision thought. I though 19 creatures was enough to stall until I could flashback past in flames and storm again because he would not be able to cast Emrakul's and Progenitus any time soon. Forgot that he was casting elementals and emissaries
A solid half the cards on the modern banlist can come off of it because they're strictly weaker than things like hammertime or infect. Umezawa's Jitte is banned because it was too good 15 years ago. It's mediocre compared to most of the equipment in Hammertime, and not amazing against infect. Sure, it can snipe creatures if you get the counters on it, but that still just loses to infect, because it's hitting you as a 12/9 or something like that. Same with the artifact lands. Affinity dropped every affinity card (except for Thoughtcast, in a few lists) because they weren't good enough. Hypergenesis is insane, but the deck is slow, uninteractive with opponents threats, and kinda wiffs on the not dying to hammertime on turn 2/3. Splinter Twin could *maybe* work, because that just slots into grixis control again and gives it a spicy combo finisher. KCI still doesn't have a reliable way to deal with a turn two hammer, or with grief/fury/endurance/solitude. Eggs is a crapshoot whether they even get to try going off.
I will never not watch one of these. Love the banned card lists. Also, this is a sweet UI overlay with the hands and effects of cards. Great job editing team.
There’s no reason to cast the simian spirit guide. He already has lethal with grief attack + 1 from fiery islet. Also, grief has menace so the only way for Carl to live is by taping out and casting a creature. Thoralf can than play the gem stone cavern and pitch simian spirt guide to play archon. When Archon revolves, Archon will make Carl sacrifice a creature and lose 3 life putting him at 1. With only one, creature grief is still lethal.
I really love your videos like this I didn't play Magic when these cards were printed, but I started playing because of crazy stuff like this, it's always interesting to see, why some cards are overpowered Thank you so much for your content!

I'd love to see more modern, pauper, and legacy. (my favorite deck is legacy manaless dredge so hopefully one day that gets featured on here haha)
Thoralf did a small punt in game two when the gitaxian probe was cast off of the past in flames with just red floating. He could have just waited for manamorphose to be cast and nuke the graveyard in response
Things like "Well I actually did that" "... no you didnt" "Uuhm okay, sure" *1minute later, police arrives* Is why I love this channel and the Moderators 😄
Great content as always! In game 3, when Thoralf cast his first Hypergenesis and Carl responded with the Gifts (21:50), he/you probably could have won right there. Before casting the Gifts, cast the Manamorphose to float a blue, then get both Force and Flusterstorm and put one in each pile to guarantee countering the Hypergenesis
Unfortunately, Gifts is ot Fact or Fiction. You don't make piles. Thoralf would of just put both counterspells in the graveyard 😅 that would have been a great line otherwise :)
I would LOVE to see Hypergenesis again. Just rewatching the video and Atraxa would be so good to that deck, allowing to even bring force with more confidence just like its happening with Oath on Vintage

The whole time Carl had pact of negation in hand for game three… I thought it was a force of will and was really confused why he didn’t use it on the emissary at the end😬
surely playing the spirit guide there was a misplay? Keeping it in hand means a guaranteed archon the turn after which would be a 100% guaranteed win since he cant fetch or use firey islet.
