I thought these decks were gonna be a bit stronger than cEDH, but holy hell that was a whole new level. Like, competitive cEDH... PWP did a NBL episode a while back, but those games did not showcase the power nearly as well as this did. This was scary. Mnemonic Betrayal was amazing.
The first 100 or so games were just people messing around with moxen, but after that we started to slowly refine the decks to the point where when we off we have to ask if we are playing soup (4-5c decks that are 95% built for you) or non soup (fun decks like jhoira or UFC), before this video was made we had just played our 400th recorded game and the stats had just started to show the power of 5 color (good players having 40+% winrates), it took a while to get this refined and most of the people that had played their own no ban list games didnt have nearly enough time to explore all the options
I love everything Joking did in these games. His deck is wild, but more than that I love that he just wants to show you guys all of the fun interactions in your decks
I have never looked at my foiled out Najeela Deck and felt so small haha. Cool games guys, I was expecting some more key/time vault wins but thoracle is just that damn good.
I love how everyone is openly talking about lines of play. Misplays are a part of the game but everyone playing optimally is the spirit of competitiveness.
You could play golos citadel!! Use transmute artifact on golos and for 1UU you have a bolas citadel once you have golos in play. Or you can play silas, he's an artifact aswell.
This is why 75% EDH is more fun in practice IMO. You usually get the time to cast more expensive cards. That being said, seing how fast decks can resolve a thassa’s oracle with no ban list is pretty cool.
Delay is objectively the best counterspell in NBL in my opinion. It stops it and exiles the spell. That part seems very good due to turn 0 wins seem very possible here, so I doubt 4 turns will pass.
It's still a lot worse than cheaper counterspells for 0 and 1 CMC. I'd actually argue that Pact is much better in this format because of instant speed win conditions you can do before you have to pay the upkeep cost.

That’s not necessarily true, there are cEDH commanders like Godo, and Urza. Or white staks is pretty common. Like sure is any commander that has blue and black in it strong because of Oracle combos? Yeah, but some commanders win by different means, and sometimes the counter magic for your win condition happens and you need a different way to win Which btw is why Kess is so strong as a commander, she runs the combos and if that fails she’s just a strong value commander
Cam: *has access to entirety of Magic with no banlist* Also Cam: *wins with Flash-Hulk* Seriously though, these games were awesome, and a definitely show of what some of the banned cards are capable of.
There's a reason Flash is banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage. It's a busted card, and I think it's a disgrace that it wasn't banned when Protean Hulk got unbanned in 2017.
I would absolutely love to see some games where all the draw your deck and win finishers are banned. I wonder what kind of interesting win cons there would be possible.

This reminds me my the last tournament when I played T&T Flash/Hulk, December 2019. It was the second round and second turn. I had eight mana (one of which was a dork). So in the upkeep Silence and then the remaining seven in the main phase -> Ad Naus + Grace and one floating. Draw the whole library and find out I have no way to win. It took me twenty minutes to come up with a solution. All Rocks out (also included L.E.D.) and play Flash with Eternal Witness and Sacrifice L.E.D. pay for Witness and return a dork to my hand and cast it. From then on, I had three creatures onto the battlefield and I could play Dread Return. This was the craziest win I've ever had. :-)
I'm playing both of those in my casual Edgar Markov vampire tribal aggro deck, it's super fun and basically wins on the spot if my opponents don't have removal, would recommend XD
im glad we have the ban list. i like when the games last a bit longer than this and when people actually need to cast their commanders and have more diversity in their strategies
I only read about no banlist EDH and the comment of this person was "flash is not used because it's too slow for the meta" LMAOOOOO The music in the background of the last game was perfect XD And as a person who played Shandalar (nope, not Vintage), playing with moxen and random broken stuff is really *moans* like you did in the video HAHAHA What a cool series of games.

All right so. I've had this dumb idea for a while now but I need some cEDH players to tell me it is dumb because I can't convince myself it is. cEDH, but you get to choose your starting hand. Obviously that sounds super busted. I grab Thoracle and demonic along with like 2 counter back ups and I win turn one. However, every single player knows you can win turn one so they all grab a free counter spell. So you try and go off turn one but can't and suddenly the second player to go off can go with shields down, meaning you can't be the first player to go off. But then someone else recognizes this meta, so they bring turn one mana with mystic and rhystic. Maybe they grab no counter spells, just a win condition, and plan on drawing into it. It might be more interesting than I think, but it might also just be solved with a set seven cards you need to grab to always win. Any opinions?
Interesting how this format is basically so fast, it's pretty much just vintage. You can run any commander with proper colors, it's unlikely it will ever hit the board. Let's go Atogatog!
Black lotus, tinker and flash unsurprisingly are good cards btw I’ll like Lutri to be unbanned since the changes of the companion rule but he might be still too powerful for that even if we didn’t see him in action
griselbrand is such a nice card, people should put that more into their decks. i know its like 8 mana and the ability cost 7 life and as we saw even activating it twice, as we saw, doesn't really get you anywhere, but the biggest flavor fail in magic at least has a nice artwork.

Good job wotc and good video, I think at least Im impressed how fast you are all build up the combo to finish a match (understanding the synergies).
I really don't think you would, someone tried it in nbl, where it has more tools (this was when decks were unrefined and overall not great) it took 4 games out of the 60 played, cant imagine it would be much better in cedh where people play value engines in their decks and sometimes play for the long game
I do not miss flash.. this reminded me how stupid that format was. If Cameron just held 2 mana, he can wait for someone else to win and just win in response to their win.

This isn't real cedh since it uses banned cards and this makes it easier to win running many colors because then you can hit easier win conditions
There is also the fact that cEDH is EDH at heart, that means players will have some different preferences for theres game plans and style of play.
