No turn 3 does seem a bit optimistic when their decks do still have 99 cards. Even with all the mana and card draw, that's a lot of cards to go through. Though, we were close to a 2 turn game because of the time vault turn 1.
EDH was played with no ban list for like 6 years before commander was invented. It was an awesome amazing format that nobody was playing to win. It was played for fun. Drop a Black Lotus, use it to cast a Chub Toad. Everybody laughs... that was the point.

Mike and garrett both discussed playing Leovold, but it just didn't end up coming together. It's very likely if we did this again, someone would be playing him.
I feel like an optimal strategy for this would be to put every Ante card into your deck, since you get to remove them before the game starts, you essentially get to play with a 90 card deck. Also I was really hoping for someone to cast a Shaharazad.
I don't know if it's been pointed out before, but I love how starting players are "determined" I know in one video it was said that someone one a game of Truth or Dare, but this one was the best by far. A Shahrazad subgame.

While some were super obvious why they should remain banned, there were some that left a feeling of "that's it"? Balance is the first one that comes to mind. Sure it's powerful for its cost, but what an amazing card it would be to help tip scales back into white's favor (no pun intended). Other colors have so many more tools to help run away with the game, and that card would do so much to reign them in.

No banlist is the most fun. I think the correct way to control eternal formats isn’t banning cards, it’s the easiest way but a better way is to just balance the playing field, also counterspells exist for a reason, uncounterable things with hexproof are annoying but there’s ways around everything
I played in the 90's, and tried to get into the game a few years ago. I'm not big on drafting, and none of my friends play, but THIS is the closest thing I've seen to real 'back in the day' 90's MtG.
I did the same. I started missing the game again. I began to look up a lot of the older cards I had but left in Florida by mistake when I moved north. There is no way I will ever be able to afford to buy those over again. I couldn't believe how much the cost increased over the years. I was missing 6 duels (3 Savannah 3 Plato) in order to have a full play set. Soul rings, Mox Diamonds, sliver queens, FoW, and so on. Man I'm kicking myself now

I would love to play this game, a whole game with no boards wipes, this is why i love cedh. I have played with people who are nice, but complain about your land destruction, but they can wipe the board every turn, making games last 2 hours. I play Mono Green Wurms, its decent competitive, but against back to back board wipes not so much.
One of my homies once made a board wipe/permanent bounce deck with absolutely no wincon to speak of. Game lasted 5+ hours because we didn't scoop out of pure spite
Would love to know what the tutor targets were. Seems like instead of going for wincons people went for other lines and I'm guessing it was value/interaction. Sidisi had LabMan on board and didn't seem to tutor up Demonic Consultation. Mike got a lot of love off that Remora. People just jammed into it mostly Would be curious to know the thoughts behind the two Windfalls. Both seemed to come later in the turn after players were mostly tapped out. I almost expected the next person to untap and win, but then the next person Windfalls, too! Derevi didn't get there, but did get to slam Root Maze, Sphere, and a Karakas. Granted, he gave Mike two draws. Definitely set himself up for a Time Vault win if he untapped, I"m sure
This is so freaking cool!! I like the idea of a no banlist commander game and I would love to try it out at some point, but I have none of these OP cards.
ive watched this multiple times and I just noticed something that could be kinda important. Mike wins by taking infinite turns with tez and time vault, but he also has a mana crypt on the board and only 16 life. He probably still would have one anyway but i think in that situation you gotta make him play it out unless he has a way to bounce the mana crypt before dying to it.
My all-time favorite card is Prophet of Kruphix and I know it's not the most competitive creature but I was disappointed it's not in any of the three decks with access to UG.

You forgot about how each turn passing mana crypt would trigger potentially killing himself before he was able to get out his win conditions.
Think he ended up not paying for his manacrypt by kataki trigger, thus sacrificing manacrypt before going infinite
