What are your hair goals for 2020? I would love to hear them! (PS: The part where I talk about trimming somehow got deleted but keeping up on your trims is another CRUCIAL step in length retention! I trim my ends when needed and make sure you use sheers opposed to regular scissors - sheers are meant for the hair and are sharper whereas regular scissors are dull and will give you more split ends than you started with. If you need a trim trim your hair or get your hair trimmed! Holding on to split ends will only be detrimental to the length you want to retain.)

If you ever wonder why your child has thicker and longer hair than you do I will tell you the secret. Most kids don’t like getting their hair combed so you let the style stay as long as possible. Most kids complain and cry about pain when you’re combing their hair so you try to be as gentle as possible. You ever hear someone say the reason why it doesn’t hurt when you do your own hair vs doing theirs is because you can’t feel it the way they do when you do you own hair? That’s because you’re being too rough in your hair and you don’t know it because you can’t feel it the same as if you had someone else to do it for you. So 1. Be gentle when you do your own hair as you would on a child. 2. If it hurts when someone is doing your hair then it is too rough. Basically, being gentle with your hair means to be as gentle as you would a small child. That’s why their hair is usually longer than their parents.

Also most kids have not damaged their hair yet with chemicals, heat, bleach, or dye.

Hello curl code black. I have a question and it would make me so happy if you answered!😊😇. I'm 12 years old and my mother won't let me wash my hair. I have never washed my hair on my own because she won't let me but I'm sure I can do it. I even made a list of reasons why she should allow me to wash my hair but she still won't agree. I want to start washing my own hair so so so so so so much. And my mom wash my hair very rarely. If I had to guess I would say she washes it 2 or three times a year because trust me, definitely not four. I think I'm a big girl now and I should start washing my own hair because I always wanted to wash my own hair and style it in protective styles although I don't know how to do any styles at all😂😂😂😂, but I'm watching videos on how to cornrow and so on. I am very determined to start taking care of my hair. My hair is passed my shoulders and very very very very very very very very very very much close to my ummmmmmmmmmmm, boobs 🤗🤣😭🙈🙊. Please give me your advice on this. What do you think about this. Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please answer. It would make me happy. How can I convince my mother to make me take care of my own hair. She isn't very understanding when it comes to talking but please give me your opinion. I'm waiting nervously 🤭🤭. Also your hair looks healthy and beautiful and you are beautiful and helpful. Thanks for reading. Please reply

Hey girl! ❤️❤️ It’s great that you are showing determination in starting to take care of your own hair! This is also the time when I started taking care of my own hair as well. Back then though there was barely any natural hair vids so I had to learn on my own over the years. But thankfully there is plenty of videos where you can truly learn! My advice to you is to ask your mom to show your how to wash your hair and tell her that you really want to start learning how to do this because it will be beneficial to you once you have to start doing it on your own. Maybe show her some wash day, hair vids etc and watch them together so that you guys can learn and bond together! You may want to tell her the importance of washing your hair more frequently as well, if not twice a month maybe once a month and go from there. Keep doing research and watching natural hair vids and make notes if you have to! I really hope this helps girl! ❤️❤️❤️

My daughter is the same age as you and she has been doing her own hair for a long time. In fact I taught her young and she never liked me to do her hair after that. She has just finished putting in passion twists using the crochet method. I'm glad I taught her because it's important for one to learn self care as long as they're ready. Your enthusiasm is really great. It's good you want to learn. For black girls to know hair maintenance young is a good thing. My daughter usually wears her own natural hair ut and in simple styles, such as buns. It has grown quite a lot and is healthy. She knows about the oils etc etc and it sounds to me like you do too.. I hope your mother will allow you to learn more about your own hair so that you will be well equipped to maintain a healthy mane... very important for black girls especially as it also instills a sense of pride and a love for ones own hair. Wish you all the best sweetie💕

Regular deep conditions, keeping your ends tucked away, scalp massages, low manipulation protective styles etc. I really hope this helps! ❤️❤️
