    But you keep using CGC like you aren't allowed to keep them raw. I don't get it. Use a different company or don't slab.

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  3 месяца назад +13

      Ive explained this reason in multiple videos and live chats… (and even a bit in this video…)
      99% of my collection is RAW.
      I only slab what makes financial sense or if the book is considered rare in that grade.
      Which translates to value typically.
      If im slabbing the book you can bet the value will at least double or triple of what its raw price is IF it hits the grade im predicting (MOST THE TIME) You can see that from the values of these grade outcomes…
      Other companies are still inferior in MARKET RETURN, AND CUSTOMER SERVICE… and label appeal.
      I dont want their selling price or labels. Plain and simple. EGS looks cheap (to me), CBCS has terrible customer service and market value AND NOW THEY WANNA ADD SUB GRADES?!!, PGX is someone’s hobby…
      PSA? They got a long road ahead, but initial appeal is not good.

      @@paperchasecomics I get what you are saying but even in your response you pretty much admit that it's an aesthetic thing and not a quality thing when deciding on what company to use. I agree that other companies labels look bland compared to CGC but a grade is a grade and I don't see how a 9.8 raw would be worth less raw compared to slabbed. The value of slabbed books shouldn't exceed the cost of slabbing. So if a book is worth $200 raw it shouldn't cost more than $300 slabbed. At least that's how I view it. Thanks for the reply.

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  3 месяца назад +3

      In my response i said it was multiple things. Its a Money thing, a customer service thing and an aesthetic thing.
      As far as what raw vs slabbed sell for…the comic community decides that. Sounds like youre just not a fan of graded comics… and thats fine too!

      @@ScoutReaper-zn1rz But a grade clearly isn't just a grade. It's a grade plus the hassle of sending it to CGC, the skill to spot a quality book, potentially the skill or expense to press and clean a book, and also the risk of getting a lower grade. And then the market values slabs from different companies differently.

      Missed this one. Still finding comments from ya! THANK YOU
      so If youre educated in cleaning and pressing it’s actually easy to tell if your book is being damaged by what ive shown here. The slight bendgate afftect in my particular submission is not damaging. Its no more stress than a book would get sitting slanted in a 3/4 full short box.
      HOWEVER… doesnt make it right. Im paying for them to be straight and well presenting.
      As far as CBCS doesnt DAMAGE books… thats just incorrect. Im sure they do. People dont consider the sample sizes when comparing these two companies. If the amount of CGC books landed on CBCS door step they would face their own list of problems. Lets not forget get during COVID when they were sending submissions to graders houses for grading, and that time they lost something like over $70,000 dollars in comics from a customer. (Not exact amount but look it up) So my point is theyve had their fair share of negative headlines with even their small sample size of grading in the community.
      How long you been working for em? 🤭

    Like how you said PGX is a joke, but from the looks of it CGC is the bigger joke and you keep sending them your books! Until comic collectors quit using them they’ll never clean up their business because no matter how shitty they get collectors just keep sending them their money and supporting shoddy service. If you were getting shitty service your oil change mechanic you’d quit going to him, but here you just continue to feed the machine. Why would they change if they can do shoddy work and there isn’t any consequences for it?

    • @paperchasecomics

      Hey Allen,
      This was my first submission in a year.
      Ive never experienced this level of poor quality with in their incasing till this.
      And until bend gate started, then people (like myself started really scrutinizing how their inner wells laid.
      Now i see it goes further back on some books. Not all… but a few yes.
      So currently all modern tier books that were ready to go out are sitting in a cold press till i know more about what CGC is doing, how the market reacts, and what PSA does.
      Bigger question is why are the people that HATE CGC (and i mean hate) ive never seen anything like it actually.,
      Why do yall sound just as mad if not more mad on something that doesnt even concern yall?
      Its fucking impressive

      @@paperchasecomics I still grade books too, I just quit feeding the machine, it’s so frustrating to spend the money to get books graded and they come back from what’s supposed to be the leader in their field, and it just makes a guy sick to see the shoddy work CGC is doing right now. Then you call them and get the fricken run around from their customer service. I use CBCS for my big books and I have used PGX for books I just want graded that have less value. PGX has been great, I have yet to see any screwed up grading or issues with the cases and their customer service is absolutely amazing. That’s why I say CGC is the joke right now, I’ll probably never use them again for my comics, they’ve left me hanging too many times. I’m a collector and don’t really flip books much so for me resale doesn’t really matter as much. Dude they’re your books and your hard earned money, if you want to continue to support CGC that’s your business. I’m just saying I see videos about CGC’s shoddy ass work and the comic community just keeps feeding the machine. We have the power to stop it by not supporting them, but it just continues on because they don’t have consequences for their actions because everyone just keeps feeding the machine. At this point I’m pretty leery about even thinking about purchasing a CGC graded book especially if it’s from the past 4-5 years. Good luck in the future with your grading needs. I do enjoy your content, collect responsibly, and have a good one.

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  2 месяца назад

      @@BathoundcomicsI hear ya. CBCS has left me hanging in the past and thats why I hate their customer service. I think when people start paying the same amount for CBCS graded books in the market is when the status will swing.
      When people are still paying “top dollar” for a product all around, and the quality issues with CGC happens sporadically (cause let be honest) its not EVERY SINGLE BOOK. So sporadic quality issues, but still a top resale value then its hard for someone who sells as well to make that jump. Every issue ive EVER had with CGC ive gotten someone on the phone and they’ve addressed it. So when stuff goes wrong its annoying, but i dont feel left in the dark.
      Reason i pinned your comment was because this is maybe 7th or 8th person to say, i keep using them without really knowing my spending habits, and i get it why would they… so this is a good convo for people to see.
      So yeah its not like im shoveling hundreds of books a year. Im at a hold on modern tier comics with them. Magazine and vintage have had no complaints. But modern is probably 80 percent of what I send so 80 percent is on hold till i know more.
      And honestly believe with how CBCS dealt with the major influx during the pandemic, if they were to get the amount of books CGC sees through out the year, theyd have their own set of problems.

    • @Bathoundcomics
      @Bathoundcomics 2 месяца назад

      @@paperchasecomics That’s fair. I’ve had good luck with CBCS so far, it’s less than a year dealing with them. I still use CGC for my trading cards, I haven’t had a single issue on that side. I’m probably being childish with CGC comic side but they pissed me off 1 to many times. I think CGC has the best case on the market right now and I have many CGC books in my collection, when I said I’d probably never use them again is probably a lie, I’ll definitely wait until a lot of the issues get cleaned up though. CBCS cases just aren’t as nice as CGC I don’t feel. PGX has come a long way from where they were at too. They recently got a new case and the look and feel is a lot more like CGC cases. I truly feel PGX is doing a lot better than in the past. I don’t have a lot of PGX books but the ones I do have are of good quality. Their grading is much better and I definitely feel they have a harder grade on modern books than CGC has, to get a 9.8-9.9 from PGX is definitely harder, been collecting for nearly 40 years and I feel I can grade a book properly and books I know would’ve got a 9.8 at CGC we’re coming back 9.6 from PGX. Good or bad it’s our hobby not theirs, we should dictate when who we use. Like I said I don’t hate any grading company, they’re a lot like people we all have our strengths and weaknesses. I truly wasn’t calling you out on anything, just was curious why if the company is struggling why people seem hell bent on supporting them. I’m pretty passionate about collecting books and superhero trading cards, I love this hobby and sometimes I feel we rely too much on third party grading. We should be having fun with and meeting and making new friends. Not arguing about which fricken grading company is better. Who cares, the focus should be on the hobby and people in the community. Thanks for that chat sir.

If you notice on Improve-Collecting-Comics video, the older books he had were exhibiting much smaller bends that were inconsistent which I suspect to be caused by reversion from the pressing he does before each submission (also they have substituted inner wells out in the past with larger/snaller sizes due to supply chain issues/defects, nowhere near the current magnitude). I have a ton of books before 2023 that are all very flat and have never pressed any of them (Materials Scientist who is not a fan of heating/oxidizing paper personally). You will also notice that people are thinking CGC made these changes in Dec 2023 which is not correct, the public caught on at that time but CGC had already started taking images of books at encapsulation and their ultrasonic welding process appears to have changed around Aug. 2023. You can easily test this by trying to open a book slabbed in 2021/22 (or before) and comparing that to one from Jan. 2024, it is night and day due to the higher frequecies & heat from friction that happen when they altered their ultrasonic welding process. Most importantly ultrasonic welding typically does not create a vacuum seal even if applied around the entire perimeter due to microscopic voids formed between the two polymers being welded (depending on frequency and application time of course). Great video and it would be nice to hear from CGC at some point instead of pretending like any of this is 'normal'!

      Same here, extremely disappointed and it has affected the way I bid at auctions and have been buying almost all raw books for the past year. Confidence and trust is just diminished, I did work with one bigger Auction owner, Doug Schmell, to start putting pics of CGC books front and back at high resolution for his auctions. Probably need a side shot as well...

    Can you do a video of your books before sending them in? Very thin paper printed with a lot of ink causes a slight wave, which is what you’re seeing most of the time. Look at all your modern books and you will see it. You got every grade you expected, you assume there is damage even though you say multiple times you don’t know if it’s damaging the books. The hair is a bad oversight, but there is human error to everything and I am sure they will fix that at no charge. Also, you are a flipper who buys raw books to grade and sell, so are you putting your complaints in the product description when you sell them? Just saying shit happens, and perfection all the time will never happen.

      ruclips.net/video/KVwxYmrkkXw/видео.html
      All books exhibiting severe enough bendgate are already back at CGC and won’t be sold till return. Yes things do happen. And CGC heads more than anyone. The chances are higher they have issues. Whoever was inspecting these books for quality control ( likely same person for all) should be fired

    • @JGSoCal-e2n
      @JGSoCal-e2n 3 месяца назад

      @@paperchasecomics That’s a good video and you have quite the setup. I swear I am not trying to troll you, but the black cover with Santa in the video still shows some of the wavy pages which comes with color bleed gloss printing on very light weight paper. It’s not damage or anything, it’s just printing. Maybe it was just the lighting, but it was there. The other books were shown sped up, so I couldn’t tell. Let’s say your hypothesis is right, the machine they use to seal the comic is set to one setting and doesn’t account for different weights of pages, cardstock covers, and etc and that’s why is creates the “banana bend”. That’s probably the best explanation, and to fix it is to either reset the machine for each individual comic every time, or a plethora of machines each set for a particular weight or page set. The cost to do that would rise exponentially! You’re talking massive costs, technical operations, and labor time to calibrate each machine. To make sure everything is perfect like you are asking, would make the wait times crazy long and the cost rise by 5 or 10 times. So would you be willing to wait 6-12 months or longer for a book and pay a $200+ grading fee per modern book on top of the wait? To make money, they need to grade books quickly at a reasonable price. I don’t think people would pay that or wait that long, pandemic wait times aside of course as that was a unique scenario. Maybe that cost and wait time would stop people from pointless grading because let’s be real, there are so many books that don’t need to be graded.

    • @Elseworlds
      @Elseworlds 3 месяца назад

      @@paperchasecomics I disagree. Graded comics promote value over quality, and not value because of quality. Selling tricks are good when they don't undermine the medium s original purpose, that is art, a good reading and entrertainment. Just like with the multiple variant covers overflowing the press. In simple terms, if the reader/collector with a limited budged buys a slab, that s 10 less new comic sales.

    • @paperchasecomics
