    Great review! The grill grates were the very first accessory I bought for my gas grill back a few years ago. The tiny holes between the rails are great for preventing flare-ups, especially when cooking chicken or other fatty proteins. And the huge grate tool you get with them is very handy, too!

      Thanks Igal, we love our GrillGrates over here as well. The only time we had a flare up with them was a huge Tomahawk some guests cooked the other day. That thing let off so much grease that we had a good fire going on even with the mitigation of the grates. Only time I’ve ever encountered that, but it was memorable. Thanks for the comment!

      Awesome, thank you! I know you're going to enjoy them. We use them all the time on multiple grills around here, and they've become a staple at The Lab. All the best!

    I have these and what these do is eliminate convective hot air which gas girlls use to cook giving you infrared cooking.

    Great review! Would of loved to see the grill grates used on a pellet grill like a Traeger. Only saw kamado, gas, and flat top.

      I’d have to look back through the video again, but I believe the pellet grill we used in this video was the Memphis Wood Fired Grill. Sounds like another video we could shoot in the near future though, so thanks!

    I've had these for years on my Grand Turbo over only the infra-red portion of the grill. I have to keep the burners on low or the grill grates will get too hot! It is then an easy clean up with the grate tool that comes with the grates!

      I bet over the infrared they would get screaming hot! I’ve always bought my grillgrate panels during second hand sales and close outs, so I didn’t get a cleaning tool with my set, but got one added on. One of these days I want to try the grill cleaning brush that cleans the tops and the valleys with different length bristles. That seems interesting. Thanks for the comment Jay!

    This product is one of those rare things that come along that is a simple, yet ingenious idea. The product truly delivers on it's promise. I tend to favor using the flat side (brilliant that it can be used in that fashion) to get a better crust, but when you want the fancy stripes.......you can have that too, with much better results than the stock grate, even if you have cast iron like my grill. My set covers half my grill. I've made a contained fire box from fire brick, so I can start over high heat for a sear, then using tongs, slide the grill grates (which are locked together) over off heat for the low-n-slow finish. Well worth the money.

    I swear by mine. I've used them on my Weber Genesis for years. Recently I started using 2 panels on my Halo 4b. I turn the far right burners on medium and the grates get up to temp rather quickly. The Grill Grates are the exact same size length wise. Grill marks on my griddle........mind blown. The lid on the Halo really does add so much more versatility to your average griddle.

      I started commenting before I finished your video in which you cover the griddle use also. Your attention to detail is top notch. I recently discovered your channel and you have a catalog of fine videos. Keep it up. Cheers

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I love using Grill Grate on a griddle. It’s so unexpected when you entertain guests and serve them grill marks from a griddle.

    Which is better putting them on the old grates or removing them and then putting them on?

    • @TheBarbecueLab
      @TheBarbecueLab  8 месяцев назад

      I usually put them directly over the existing grates on my grill.

    I tried the GrillGrates a couple years ago, and ended up tossing them out after about a year. When they were new they worked okay, but it didn't take long before there was so much gunky buildup in the channels that the holes ended up getting plugged, and they were a mess. And they really didn't stop any flareups; the channels held the grease, and frequently caught fire just under the meat instead of deeper inside the grill. There just wasn't any way to get the grates reasonably clean, no amount of scraping would get the hardened goop out of the channels.

      Interesting. I haven't had that experience with my grates, but maybe I clean them more frequently? I have the grate cleaning tool that I find to be very helpful in getting the buildup off between cooks. My grates are all black now for some of my grills, and they're the most non-stick that I have. Sorry to hear that they didn't work out for you.

      Are really this obtuse? Or is it intentional? It never occurred to you to clean out the channels?
