    What kind of professional background do y'all have? You make the upgrades you've done so far look so easy! I would be intimidated to try and install solar panels and a windmill myself. I would also be nowhere near as chill as y'all seem to be. I'd be jumping out of my SKIN to be adventuring like you guys!
    Best wishes!

Ahead of our Atlantic crossing we do have some major projects coming up including fitting a Hydrovane which we can’t wait to share.

    Hello great vlogs, I am looking forward to seeing more, can you give me a time when this is. You are going to places here( UK) I visit and nice to see again, Swedish coast down through Netherlands and onward, I was in that marina at Brest and found them very friendly and helpful, keep up the good work, best wishes.

      Tony Brown hey! That’s good we should have another out soon. This was shot in September ‘19 just before we crossed biscay so doing our best to try catch up to the present. Brest was a really nice marina perfect for boat jobs and preparations for the journey ahead.

    Props on the wind and solar install. I have shied away from wind gen do to the noise. Just how quiet is the SILENTWIND PRO?
    Do you plan on installing an arch in the future? With an arch, you should have enough room for two more panels in a more efficient location. Be happy be safe.

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад +3

      Larry Boles thankyou! The noise has never been an issue for us. The wind in the rigging and waves on the hull seem to be louder. When it’s super windy at anchor and the batteries are full it just turns itself off and starts up for intervals when charge is required. Otherwise if we want quiet we just activate the brake on our phone for the evening. We are happy with this arrangement. Yeah we have another two panels to place between the poles to increase our charging. 🤙

      @@SailingBeaver Heck that sounds great! As long as you can break the wind gen at anchor, I am happy. thanks for the reply

    • @SailingBeaver

      Thank you sir glad you enjoy. Your right, lots of hard work. The bracket is made by Noa a Swedish brand. You can find them at www.noa.se we have 4 mounts and they have been great. 👍

    I know this is an old episode but if i may ask why are you using an aluminium and not stainless steel backing plate?

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  2 года назад

      We used aluminium as that’s what we had onboard for spare material. Also it’s light, easy to work with and was simple to drill out once fixed in place. Stainless is a nightmare to cut and drill.

  • @h3xmax
    @h3xmax 4 года назад +1

    Heyy great video...what glue did you put on the backplate?

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад

      Hi mate! Thanks for watching! We used steelplast (glass fiber putty), dries pretty quick and is super solid

  • @davegrenier1160

    The tubing you slipped over the connections (when assembling your wind generator) may have been heat-shrink tubing. Did you zap them with a hair dryer or heat gun?

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  3 года назад

      Yeah It was heat shrink at the top of the pole. I think we just used a lighter but maybe a heat gun would be better. 👍

    Great video(s) and very informative...thanks for posting. I have an Oceanis 40 and am considering this system as an option with an inverter as well. Did you connect to just the service batteries or to the engine and bow thruster ones too from the regulator? If so do you just connect in parallel with a fuse on the postive supply from the regulator to all batteries. And for the solar panels - did you connect them both in parallel into the single regulator input? Finally are you happy with the system? It wouls be really helpful to understand how you came to the decision to use this set up. Sorry for all the questions!!

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  3 года назад

      Your very welcome 🙏. Good to hear it’s helpful for you. It’s a good system especially at night when anchored we are happy with the wind generator. It’s connected via breaker to the service batteries only. The solar panels (we have 4 now) are all parallel via a twin pole isolator and 30a Victron charge controller also only to the service batteries. We have 4x6volt batteries that work very well for us. We only have a very small 300w inverter just for changing laptops, if your interested our biscay video we test the wind gen and in our video departing to Morocco we show the battery system. Thanks for tuning in.
